High quality items, my only complaint which is more of a warning, when checking out there a place for a tip, unfortunately the staff doesn't receive the tips, they keep the tips and use the money for payroll. That's pretty slimy. read more

Bad bad bad! Customer service sucks. I try to buy oyster and I asked if they have plenty because I saw that some are already opened. They said they have more, so I asked for a dozen and he handed me the bag so I start looking at the oysters and I found five that were opened. So I told them I wasn't going to purchase the oysters. People die in eating bad oysters it's not a joke to sell it. For a butcher it's important that you serve the best particular for your high prices. I do not recommend this place. This is the ultimate spot ! I am so glad I found it, since I have moved to Florida I have visited and tried quite a few butcher shops. All of which were way too expensive. Over priced for not the best quality cuts. Until I found the chop shop. I came well versed, I looked them up online and read what they had available, and couldn't wait to get in. I walked in and saw the selection of fresh veggies as I read; I grabbed a few sweet potatoes, moved my way to the butcher area.There were homemade soups and sauces. Cheeses, wine, jams. I ordered some ground beef, bourbon peach porkchop, and chorizo. All the meat was delicious fresh and tasty! Prices were affordable, staff were kind. Give them a try! If you haven't been to Chop Shop Artisan Butcher yet... go now. There is an amazing selection of meat, produce and a few other goodies all from local farms. So far, I've purchased the ribeye, chicken, chorizo, aged cheeses and lots of produce. Everything was delicious! I will definitely be back soon for the scallops, duck confit, and more! Also, if you love mimosas you're definitely going to have to get some of the Shrub from Congaree and Penn (sold at Chop Shop). It's like nothing you've ever had before. My two favorite flavors are Blueberry/Myer Lemon and Strawberry/Key Lime. AND it's made with apple cider vinegar so it's healthy too, right? LOL read more

Chop Shop is legit. You'd think that with the word "artisan" in their name would spell out to higher prices. But no! They actually post their prices to the big box store (usually Publix) -- and they are 100 percent reasonable, nay, you are getting more bang for your buck. We've bought from them in the past 3 months: - an entire friggin' brisket - per usual steaks (rib eye, NY strip) - per unusual steaks (teres major, hanger) - charcuterie and cured things - the ground beef mix - chuck roast The brisket turned out to be the best smoked brisket I've ever had in my life. Their ground beef is superior and above all for burgers on the grill. I think the hanger steak was the best of all steaks. I'm also a huge fan of their charcuterie (duck prosciutto when they have it!!), their seasonings (their steak/burger seasoning is spicier than I think most would find palatable -- but I think it's perfect), and almonds! Those almonds are ridiculous! Come here if you want to assemble the best charcuterie plate (I did for Thanksgiving, it was a huge hit). Want to seriously impress everyone with your burger skills. Or ambitious enough to take on a full brisket (come in 1-3 days in advance to order). They don't break the bank. But I'm not mindful of that since there's always more that I want! As I've learned, just because it's dark -- doesn't mean no one is home. Their tinted windows give the allusion that they are closed. They've assured me that their abide to their posted hours. After the market closed across the street, this is exactly what we needed: a real butcher with area produce and local goods from other small businesses. They even have kitchen gadgets and utensils lining the wall near the meat and seafood case. Stopped in today after work and loaded up on beef, pork, chicken, and a ton of vegetables straight from the farm. The folks working were super friendly and helpful and my total at the register was really affordable. I think this is officially my weekly grocery run stop! read more

I had been there about a year ago and was super excited about there large selection of meats. Bought some steaks and they were wonderful I went I. There yesterday and their prices were "out of this world". They need to repost their current menu. The filet Lignon was $45/lb. 4 small crabcakes (and they weren't made from lump crabmeat) were $30. I also got some duck poschuitto for $9.99 and it was horribly greasy and did not taste fresh. Maybe I came before Memorial weekend and I got the last of the food food but it was really disappointed. And then when I checked out....they requested a tip?? I gave them one but I still don't know what for. Maybe because I was embarrassed not to with the cashier standing over me. Please write if you have a better experience because I really want a good butcher near me but this isn't it. read more

I love finding gems. Little places that you pass by and think "that's cool, I wonder what that's like?" But you never end up going. This is that place. You're doing yourself a disservice by not coming in and taking a look at the incredible selection and beautiful shop. Once you go you'll apprehend quality, the time and effort they put into doing what they do and the value for what you as the consumer are getting. My wife heard about this place from someone in our local neighborhood Facebook page in Jacksonville. We came down to St. Augustine and decided to try it out, and since then, we come about once a month or so. They have a homemade chorizo that is simply phenomenal that my wife and I love to have for breakfast with eggs and toast. She's Mexican, and it reminds her of growing up in Arizona. We love their cheddar bacon burgers (I mean c'mon) sausages and their selection of steaks, chops, chicken and roasts is all top notch. I wish this place were closer, but it's a treat when we come here, so we'll stock up for a weeks worth of meals and all in all it's about $30-ish for various items. Wonderful artisan butcher shop with top quality meats. Selections are such that there are always multiple options for every occasion. If they are not busy, take time to get to know the team, even ask for preparation suggestions. Their suggestions are always spot on. I visit here a few times each month. This is a small place that can get very busy. Be patient and enjoy the show. The staff are always wonderful, even when they have to deal with "challenging" customers. Fantastic butcher/store. Bought about $200 worth of different things. Prime steaks, pate, triple cream brie, premade items like crab soup and bolognese sauce were all fantastic. They really have almost everything you could think of like duck confit, pork belly, gourmet sausage etc. OWNER - please stock some gourmet butter like Rudolph Le Meunier! I really try and not give 5 star reviews every time but this place is a little meat oasis on the island I found it just looking on random yelp things ( THANK YOU YELP!) and it's a gem They list their prices and competitors on a chalk board ( Publix?) - Some are higher and some are lower..... But the quality is top notch We walked in to just check it out and walked away with ground sausage, chorizo , duck breast, duck confit , eggs, garlic, cheese, rillettes ( chunky pork pate happiness) and baguette . Try the pimento cheese! My only wish is for beer and wine ( coming soon I heard) and better bread. I would have offered 3 stars but I find the practice of showing the price with suggested tip intimidating. Its meant to shame you into tipping the same % you would for a meal at a restaurant for already high priced cuts. The meats are of decent quality but the Italian sausage were nowhere near as good as New York butcher but at Twice the price. A knock at the butchers window at Publix was just as good for a third of the price and no tip. I think most of the reviews are written by friends and family. The glowing reviews are the only ones that merit a managerial response! read more

Best pate I've ever had. Beautifully seasoned. Paired with their pickles, it's an amazing appetizer. Meats looked high-quality and really reasonably priced. I want to love the chop shop, but I've been super disappointed by the consistency. My wife picked up 2 filet mignon steaks over the summer & then some steak tips...that were to die for! Absolutely amazing quality, flavor... delicious! Fast forward to this holiday & she purchased steak tips for 6 people & the quality of the meat was great... however they were salted to the point where I could barely get though eating one... awful! Then we picked up a 5 pound roast for Christmas eve and it was a huge disappointment - it had at least a pound of fat and very little meat... for $45 dollars I expected a lot more. Honestly we worked really hard to put together 2 beautiful meals for our family and it was pretty much ruined by sub-par meat from the Chop Shop. read more

My husband and I have been driving to this shop from Jacksonville to stock up on some of their delicious food. Yesterday, I received an email that they were offering spatchcocked, barbecue chickens for pick up with a phone call to reserve. I picked mine up today and had it for dinner, it was so moist and flavorful! I just placed it in a pyrex pan, covered it with foil as they suggested and heated in a 325 degree oven for 30 minutes. What a quick delicious main dish! I'm the cook of the house, so this offered me a much needed break. We also picked up some of their frozen homemade meatballs to try and some homemade frozen steak sauce with the ingredients of: Beef Bone stock, tomato paste, garlic, onion, celery, red wine. The selection and quality of various meats is wonderful and the quality is top drawer. Customer service is another story. Upon my last 2 visits the gal behind the meat counter acted as though we were bothering her. When asked to see the tray of filet mignons it appeared to be a real issue for her. We like to pick out our items from the various trays, being able to look at them all. She simply states, "they're all the same". We needed to press her to pull out the tray of meat. Poor attitude. Please, this is THE only butcher in the area. Best cuts, most knowledgeable butchers, and museum-like meat and charcuterie displays. When I ask Publix butchers for veal scaloppine or pork tenderloin roasts, I'm confronted with 1) oddly contorted facial expressions; 2) call us a week ahead; and, perhaps the best, 3) when you say scaloppine, do you mean like scallops?" I am unbelievably confused by the negative reviews for this place. This butcher shop has literally changed my cooking game (which was pretty subpar lol). I live in St Augustine and frequent Chop Shop as often as possible. I will be honest, I am food snob (obviously from restaurant experience if you saw my subpar cooking comment above). Covid forced me to learn to cook and the meats are not only the absolute highest quality but they are less expensive than the grocery store! If I buy 4 filets here, I usually pay around $50. At Publix, I pay at least $60 if not more for garbage quality. Don't get me wrong, I love everything else about Publix but their meats are awful. I've also tried the other butcher shops in the area and Jacksonville expecting that all butchers were this good. Nope. There is just no comparison. I can also just hit Chop Shop though because they have meats, cheeses, charcuterie, farm to table vegetables, milk, eggs, spices, etc. I don't get how people are not as in love with this place as I am?!?!? read more

I visit St A 5-6 times a year and was surprised to see a butcher of this quality open in town. Very impressive display of both meat and prepared foods. What isn't impressive is the arrogance of the butchers who work here, which was equally surprising given that there seems to be reviews stating the exact same thing going back until pretty much the day they opened. Honestly, was really taken aback. It was like the people behind the counter went out of their way to be total dicks to the customers. I was just curious about their dry ager so asked a few questions. You'd think I had offended someone's mother. And when I asked how much it was they basically volunteered that it would be more than I'd want to spend and that it would all sell so fast I wouldn't be able to snag any anyways. Wow! The topper was being prompted to tip - which I accidentally did at 15%, resulting in a $15 tip for a couple steaks, a 6 pack and two bottles of cheap wine. Seriously? Tipping at a grocery store? Get a grip on yourselves, you're not that special. And if you keep being arrogant jerks to everyone, it won't matter how good your product is. I've already resigned myself to NOT going back to find out how good their dry aged steaks are, but before he loses too many more customers, the owner needs to have a chat with the butcher staff (and maybe conduct a little customer service training.) Now this is a place I could go to and hang out all day. As a man who likes to also play with meat of all kinds I love this place. Now I have only been here once cause of a 40 mile difference in locations. I made the trek to eat at Smoked and visit a new butcher shop. I will say that the place looks just like all of the pictures that I have been drooling over during the build out. As a builder I do that from time to time. I also really like Chef Brian Whittington and follow him on social media. I happened in a sausage day which is really up my alley. I also got to meet and talk with the lead butcher Tony Philpot while he was making some chorizo sausage. Pretty cool to watch as the place is all open so you can see everything going on. I had to buy some of the fresh sausage. I will say that it is really yummy and I love the spice package they used. Trying to get the recipe didn't work out for me but that's alright I like mine. I will make the trek down to St. A again and every time I make it I will stop in to the Chop Shop. read more

I was definitely doing myself a disservice by not coming in sooner. I came for pork belly (which was of great quality. Excellent meat:fat ratio) but also ended up grabbing scallops. I walked past the case twice and they just looked so beautiful. After we pan-seared, you can clearly tell by texture and taste of the scallops that they are of high quality. The main star was Italian sausage stuffed pork chops cleverly created on the spot by their expert butcher with spot on cooking instructions. What a wonderful place! We stopped by Saturday afternoon and got everything for a feast: luscious tenderloin steak for Nana, mouthwatering rib eyes for everyone else, fingerling potatoes, carrots, Brussel sprouts, mushrooms, and cookies! Everything was delicious and the tenderloin was the best she'd ever tasted! This is the go to place for just about any cut of meat!
