I have been traveling all throughout Brazil and am visiting Petropolis with a friend who grew up in this city. Petropolis has much to offer tourists BUT Bordeaux is NOT one of those things. I came on a beautiful Sunday afternoon expecting a wonderful meal. Instead I received the worst dining experience in all of Brazil. My party of 3 and I arrived and the restaurant seemed busy. We put our party on the list and were seated about 15 minutes later. We went through the standard of ordering our drinks and then our food shortly after. Everything went down hill from there. From the time that we ordered our food to the the time that we just decided to leave the restaurant was 53 minutes. 53. We ordered a grilled picanha for two and beef medallion with cheese dish. Anyone with cooking experience knows that these do not take long to prepare. Within our 53 minutes, not a single person came to check on our table at any time after we ordered. We asked about our plates after about 30 minutes of waiting and still nothing. The restaurant does not offer any complimentary starters. As a side note, the cheese and bread bar in the middle of the room was not attended to a single time since we arrived at the restaurant (over an hour). Finally after we were done with the restaurant, we approached the bar to ask to close our tab to leave. The manager finally appears and ask us what the situation. We explain, but at that point we had already decided to leave. Nothing could reconcile the awful service. The manager simply replied did your waiter not tell you the food can take up to an hour? There was no apology or even acknowledgement of the poor service. The lack of class in this establishment has been unparalleled in my entire trip to 4 cities in Brazil. I would not recommend this place even if the food were free. If you're looking for good service and great food in Petropolis, I highly recommend Majórica.

I tried the maracuja com gengibre (passion fruit/ginger) and maracuja com manjericão (passion fruit/basil) and loved both of them. If you're a foreigner ie non-Brazilian, let them know if you prefer more or less cachaça in your caipirinha to get the drink of your taste. Vegetarian dishes are very sparse here, though my waitress did mention they had a veggie risotto that wasn't on the menu and they may have others as well. They are mostly known for their seafood dishes. I enjoyed my filet with gorgonzola sauce too. The restaurant is al fresco with a covered roof. Some of the tables are in the sand, so you can feel like you're on the beach even though you're a few steps away from the sounds of the waves crashing in. All around, a great experience and not so in your face of a tourist trap like the beachfront restaurants.
