Chopsticks is a hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant located in a strip mall on Central Road in Rolling Meadows. I live in Chicago, but I've gone here several times to buy Chinese food for my parents who live about a mile away. Inside, there are a few chairs, and maybe a table. The kitchen and where you order is behind a counter and glass wall. There is nothing fancy about it, but Chopstick is meant to be a carry-out restaurant, so it's not a problem. They prefer cash but will take a credit card and charge 3-percent extra. That said, the entrees are bargain-priced and are served in generous portions. I recently ordered food for myself and a neighbor on a busy Father's Day. I did not order ahead, but it only took 15 minutes to prepare my order. I requested no MSG, and I was told that they do not use any--so that's a big plus for anyone who wants to avoid it. They have all the usual Chinese-American favorites, including their house special that has shrimp, chicken and beef. But the ingredients they use are fresh and high-quality--and that sets them apart from most carry-out restaurants of this type. My only complaint was that of my two orders, they mixed up the entrees--my neighbor was supposed to get the house special, and my husband was supposed to get the chicken and vegetable dish. But even though the entrees were mixed up, everyone was happy with what they received. If I lived closer, Chopsticks (cute name) would be my go-to Chinese-American restaurant. They have a Special Diet Dishes section. It is just steamed vegetables that you can get with meat and/or steamed shrimp and steamed white rice. Brown sauce is on the side. I can't have soy or wheat so this is perfect for me. I didn't think I would benefit able to order any food at a Chinese Restaurant due to my food sensitivities, but I was able to order this. Ugh! I hate leaving negative reviews. I also hate that people know a place is bad and won't tell you. I ordered via phone because Uber fees were very high. The order was correct. The food was hot. Unfortunately, when I arrived I waited for a while the staff discussed something in Chinese. It's a glass window and I was visible but not acknowledged. I ordered crab Rangoon. It was tasty. I ordered hot and sour soup. Also tasty, but not spicy. The crunchy toppings that came with it were stale. I ordered Mongolian chicken for my husband and he called it onion soup and said there was no meat. I ordered Kung Pap Tofu, there was no spice and it was the driest food I've ever eaten. Perhaps this is due to the protein being tofu. Not my fault, they need to alter the liquid ratio for this dish. It was not edible. I ordered combination fried rice. It was just, okay. This place is pretty good - my parents have gotten it a few times, it's honestly a hit or miss. Sometimes the dishes are delicious and sometimes they're just mediocre at best. I recommend their egg rolls, sesame chicken, and beef with broccoli! Also, it's so worth it just to get a large, don't even bother with the small size. Stopped here on a whim to get a quick lunch. I picked it because it looked convenient and was neat the hospital on the way to O'Hare. We ended up eating in even through the dining area is pretty small, but the wait wasn't long. What I got was some of the most delicious Chinese food I've ever had, all for a very reasonable price. The staff were extremely nice and got the food out pretty quickly. This might be viewed more as a takeout place but honestly just getting the food straight off the stove was great. It becomes so easy to just go to Panda Express ten thousand times we look past local businesses: and one day on a whim I decided to come here instead and it was one of the best spontaneous decisions I made. The food is delicious: the beef chow fun and fried dumplings are a particular favorite of mine, and the sweet and sour soup is also delicious. The staff is nice and welcoming, and one day after ordering the wrong item online, they were happy to help accommodate my order. It may not be a fancy looking place, but it doesn't need to be. Can be a little hot in the summer, but they have fans to help cool you down. Sometimes, you can't just do with passable fast food anymore. You need real food. And that's what this is: good Chinese food. Very disappointed with our online order. The restaurant did not start making it until we arrived at the restaurant to pick up. Even after we paid for the order, it still did not get worked on for another 10 minutes. Then we waited another 20 minutes for the order to be ready and the staff was rude to my husband who waited for 1/2 hour for an order we expected to just pick up. If the policy is to wait until the customer arrives and pays for the order before you even start cooking, that should be made clear on the website. Fried fantail Shrimp: Way too bready and were falling apart as they were fried too long. Not good. Pad Thai: Actually favorite of the dishes we got. Very unusually sweet, though? I'd get this again. Shrimp with Lobster Sauce: This is normally one of my favorite Chinese take out dishes. This was nothing that I was used to. Let me tell you, this place is literally the best Chinese food spot, literally ever. Even better than most sit down restaurants. The freshness is top notch, and their crab ragoons are perfectly cooked and generously filled with cream cheese. I personally love their beef chow fun, the noodles are chewy, it's flavorful, and overall perfect. The service is quick and they are very nice. I'm not sure if this place is family owned, but it's definitely a place to support and but from. Nice selection of appetizers, some different from the usual you find at other places, such as steamed vegetable dumplings. The egg drop soup is very tasty. They are VERY busy during dinner pick up. I give up. I give up looking for any other Chinese food ever again. THIS is the place for me. All roads lead to Chopstick. I bow to them. I have had Chinese delivery from just about every place in Schaumburg and the outlying areas (I travel often. Plus I love Chinese food. You know what? Don't judge me). I've had the soggy, crappy egg rolls. The bland and pale chicken. The rubbery shrimp. Beef that could double as a doorstop. But this? This erases them all from my memory. The General Tso's Chicken is crispy with just the right amount of zing. The Kung Pao Chicken is spicy and tender, the Hunan Beef could use some salt, but the beef was juicy and plentiful, and the Garlic Shrimp had enough garlic to offend every vampire within 20 miles (which is just the way it should be). I can't stop eating. For real. Just be happy I quit long enough to take pics. Don't waste your time with the other places- trust me. And sure I'm a stranger on the Internet, but I'm also a chubby chef so I know my stuff. UPDATE 7/9/18 I didn't think it could get better, but it did. We ordered from Chopstick using one of the delivery services in the area. This was our first time and we selected them for the reviews we saw on the ordering website. Also, their pricing seemed to be lower than many of the other Chinese Restaurants offering delivery. The food arrived on time - and was hot. Since the order was over a certain amount ($15 I think?) they gave us two free Egg Rolls. We ordered three items: Szechuan Chicken, House Egg Foo Young, and Sauteed String Beans. I was impressed with the quality of the food for the price. Even without considering price, the food was excellent. I wish I had taken a few pictures to share but we were hungry when the food arrived, and we just dug in. I don't have any idea what it is like inside. I don't know and can't comment on how comfortable it is, what the atmosphere is like, or the service in the restaurant. Chopstick is the definition of a hole-in-the-wall restaurant. From the outside it might not seem like much, but their food is exceptional! I've ordered from here many times. Their delivery is usually pretty quick and I've also done carry out. My go-tos usually include: lo mein, fried rice, orange chicken, beef and broccoli, egg rolls, and crab rangoons. Everything is always delicious and decent size portions. Their lo mein, orange chicken, and crab rangoons are some of the most flavorful I've ever had! There are ton's of asian restaurants in the burbs and I'm pretty sure I'm sampled most of them but ChopStick's is by far the most consistent in its freshness and taste! Take something as simple as the brown sauce that accompanies their egg foo young. With the vast majority of Chinese take out place, it's usually bland an either too soupy with a weird coating on top or it's too thin. With Chopsticks, their brown sauce is the perfect consistency and texture and flavor is just dynamite! This is the case with all of the dishes I have tasted here! This place is my go to for a healthy lunch special takeout when I'm doing work in the area. I get steamed white meat chicken and veggies with sauce on the side. The food is consistently delicious. The portion is large- one entree is often enough for 2 meals. I was craving some take out Chinese and racked my brain with nearby places, preferably one I had yet to try. I remembered reading Chopstix was a favorite for some in the area, so I drove over to give it a shot. I walked in to what seemed to be an argument, yet I continued in to browse the menu. They had many dishes to choose from and it appeared lunch dishes were a great deal. I noticed a section of steamed options, with sauces on side, for healthy alternative, which was nice to see. I ended up ordering enough for a small family and was out the door, food in hand, fairly quickly. Once home, I dug right in. To my dismay, I was searching flavor in each dish. Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed. I'd say all the proteins themselves were fine, but the flavors of everything were simply lacking for me. The Ma Po Tofu was in a spicy, yet overly soupy, red sauce with peppers and chunks of pork, rather than a grounded pork. Probably the worst I've had. The best of the three entree dishes I ordered was the Scallops and Garlic Sauce. For the appetizers, the steamed potstickers were tasty enough. Maybe I'll try some different dishes in the future, in hopes that I just ordered the wrong things, but I won't be running back any time soon to do so. When I saw this place was going to open in town, my first thing was great, another Asian restaurant, just what we need in Arlington Heights. Well my boys wanted food from a place two doors down yesterday and I stopped in here for some vegetable fried rice. A solid fried rice with really fresh ingredients and not buried in soy sauce. Today the family decided to get take-out from Chopstix and it was mixed reviews, though all positive. We ordered egg drop soup, hot and sour soup, steamed pot stickers, beef and broccoli, and sweet and sour chicken. I don't eat sweet and sour chicken, though the family really liked it. The boys and I really liked the beef an broccoli, though my wife didn't care for the beef so much. Again nice fresh broccoli in the dish, really nice. The steamed pot stickers are the best we have gotten from any Asian restaurant in the area. The sauce they served with it had fresh garlic in it, nice flavor. I had the hot and sour soup, it was okay. Again fresh ingredients, but it was over thickened (imo) which gave it to much of a gelatin texture, I think the egg drop may have been the same from what I could see. The boys enjoyed that and said they liked it. All and all a good dinner, we surely will be back and I have already told some people at work about it.
