Delicious Chinese food! There's a reason there's a line outside to get into the restaurant, they know how to make great food. I ordered the Kung Fu noodle dish and loved the flavor of the dish. There were plenty of veggies and chicken mixed in with the noodles. The sweet sauce that was on the dish was great and balanced out with the chili flakes. Portion sizes are also large, so there is plenty leftover for a second meal. Make sure to wait a few minutes and keep any eye out after ordering, a table will open up, even if it looks crowded. Also, be prepared to eat with chopsticks because that is the only utensils they provide. read more

Winter isn't kind to the main street of Lorne. With temperatures dropping people hibernate and from the number of for sale signs up and down the street, the small businesses that call the Parade home, suffer greatly. Searching for dinner amongst a number of dark shop fronts, we found Chopstix which was alive with the chatter of a handful of diners. This noodle bar crossed with Polynesian Tiki is a delicious shift left of the usual seaside fish and chips. We were served promptly and dinner came only moments later. Our main size servings of Pad Thai and Nasi Goreng were so large we carried noodle boxes out with us back to the hotel. Leftovers for breakfast - WINNING! The highlight for me? The Coconut Panda 'mocktail'. Served in a fresh coconut it was a blended drink of banana, coconut milk and coconut pieces. We left the city a bit later than we should have for a drive down the Great Ocean Road, so we ended up in the beautiful seaside town of Lorne after 1p, and famished...! We took a quick stroll through the open-air flea market that was going on, before heading up to Lorne's main drag to grab some grub. I saw the words "noodle bar," so we made a beeline to Chopstix. We had our pooch, CJ, with us, so the outside seating was ideal. Unfortunately, some jerk with two pitbulls walked by our table and his pits lunged at CJ, causing a bit of a commotion out front. The guy (I kid you not) laughed at the scene of his growling and snapping demon dogs! And, too, as soon as that bit of hullabaloo was done, an Antarctic system blew in so fast and furious, we had to take CJ back to the car so that we could eat inside to avoid the wind, rain and cold. Not a great start to this lunch.... At Chopstix, you order at the counter, take a seat, and they serve your food. I ordered the BBQ Pork Singapore Noodles (smokey, wok fried marinated pork with thin egg noodles and oriental greens; $16.90). (My partner went with the Emperor's Nasi Goreng (fried rice with chicken, bacon and assorted Asian veggies); $16.90.) Our small-sized bowls arrived, piping hot. The smell was rich and savory! I absolutely love Asian noodle dishes, so I was very happy with my dish. I had it made extra spicy, and, indeed, it was. Yowsah! The noodles were perfectly cooked; the spices were flavorful; the dish was stuffed with pieces of smoked pork, all topped with raw slices of spring onion. (I had a bite of my partner's Emperor's Nasi Goreng, which was flavorful but a bit mushy to my liking.) Overall, my meal gets 3- 1/2 stars. No doubt, if the start of our Chopstix experience had begun on a better note, I might've been inclined to give this place 4 stars. Eat here for lunch and dinner. Each time it was fantastic, great tasting and flavorful food, good ambiance and just a fun place. Try the chinaman noodles, especially when you're hungry! Kung fu panda! Chopstix Noodle Bar prides itself over using fresh ingredients that are provided by local suppliers to create the Asian authentic flavour. Covered in bamboo, hanging lanterns and anime inspired painted walls (along with the toilets), Chopstix Noodle Bar creates a fun, funky, feel-good vibe that's infectious enough to make you smile. The menu is amusing with playful names such as the Munchies offering (entrée), we got the Calamari Shallow Fried (a tad on the expensive side) with homemade five spice seasoning and Thai red curry aioli dipping sauce. We need to see more of the Thai red curry aioli, it's amazing. For the mains we ordered the Kung Fu Kway Teow which is wok-fried flat rice noodles with chicken, oriental vegetables, red chilli and Kecap Manis (Indonesian sweet soy) and the Ninja Laksa, an authentic Malaysian stew, served with seafood, egg and oriental vegetables. Both dishes were worthy of their martial arts names, both punching and kicking their way to be some of the best kway teow and seafood laksa I have tasted. The Ninja Laksa has an entire small crab in there, tasty, but you might find small traces of shell in the soup, otherwise, it's near perfect, both in serving size and taste. The best part of the experience was the Shakes menu, the Coconut Panda, a healthy blend of real coconut milk, fresh coconut and banana blended with ice is the crème de la crème of coconut drinks! It's served in a coconut with a small umbrella. It's the star of the show and I would pay any price to have it again and again. If you're down at Lorne, drop by just for this drink! I found the service to be acceptable, some staff didn't seem interested and some did. The price is more on the expensive side for Asian food, but well worth it. There's not much options in Lorne if you're after an early dinner before 6, this is where Chopstix Noodle Bar has the advantage, the food is full of taste and the drinks are creative. Highly recommended even if it's just for the Coconut Panda! read more

I'm giving these guys five stars because the spicy Indonesian mee goreng was not only tasty, spicy and so freak in' fresh and hot you could barely take a bite, but because this is pretty much the only gig in town with a cool atmosphere and food in the winter! I really thought my food was very good... Beat ever, probably not, but if you visit Lorne during the frozen season this is the only game in town. They should have a happy hour though so you can drink away the silence in Lorne during the off season. read more

Our AAKings touring coach stopped for lunch and we went to Chopstix. It was quick and delicious! We got steamed hand rolled dumplings, Pad Thai and Tom Yum noodle soup with seafood. I was worried my soup would be too spicy, but they ensured I could enjoy each delicious bite! Service was efficient and gracious. Would go there again!! read more

Decent flavor to the noodle dishes but the pad Thai noodles themselves were a bit too soggy. Not sure what they do but the bowl you receive your noodles in keeps the dish piping hot for what would seem to be an illogical amount of time. Portions are quite generous. A bowl of noodles will cost $16-$21 depending on the protein you choose. Being spoiled by good Asian food my entire life, this place is satisfactory. I can't complain though as we are in Australia and I'm amazed to even find a decent Asian food establishment. read more

Ok so the curry chicken itself was very tasty... but $17.95 for a small takeaway container???? A bit steep guys! And half of that was rice anyway. Terrible service. Would not return. We waited in line for about 10 minutes, only to be told by the server (flippantly, I might add) that she needed to know what table we were sitting at. This restaurant offers neither table service nor a number, so we had no clue. The implication was that we would have to find a table, then line up again. So we picked a random table hoping to get a seat--it was packed. Luckily we did, and all seemed to be going well. Then our BBQ Pork came out and we ate it, only to realize that it was actually the order of someone else at the table. With no reference, the server brought us out a dish that matched what we ordered, and we took it without knowing any better. Obviously the other patrons weren't happy, and not only was the server rude, when they suggested that a number system be implemented, they were further told "I'll tell the manager," in a condescending voice by the server. Chopstix saved us when we arrived in Lorne late on Monday night. We had the curry, Tom yum, sushi roll and dumplings. All were better than we expected for a seaside country town in the middle of winter. There are beers by the bottle and some house red and white wine to keep you going. The location is great, food is whatever, and service is ridiculous. I can accept that we have to pay at the counter first before sitting down, and how we have to get our own utensils, sauces, napkins etc... There are many places where customers have to help themselves and are not actually served by the waiters/waitresses. But when the servers straight up ignore their customers, that's a whole other issue. We paid for our food and went to sit down. The servers (two young women) who in my opinion don't even need to be there, looked like they hated every minute of their job. They did not smile once, or even spoke to us. When one of them brought us the food, she just placed it down and quickly ran off like she had somewhere to be. The whole time we were there we saw a few people walking past looking at the menu and even went inside to check it out. NO ONE greeted them or even said hi. The workers totally ignored them, so they left. We felt so unwelcome by their facial expressions and attitude. If we were running the restaurant, we would of fired these girls in a heart beat as they are obviously a waste of space and money. Never going back. read more
