The dreaded service DEF system warning came on my diesel 2014 Ram 3500 on a Friday, we were to be leaving on a 1 week camping trip celebrating my wife's birthday the following Tuesday. Dropped the truck off Sunday night for them to look at on Monday. Spoke with Chris on Monday morning and even though he was swamped he took the time to trouble shoot my DEF problem, advise me of the fix needed (new DEF pump), got the parts that day and by Tuesday mid morning he completed the job. Not sure how I should feel about this business. We recently moved to the area and I was looking for a new mechanic. This company was recommended on Next Door. My experience? I was not looking for my car to be showroom ready or 100% new, but I was looking for a service and to fix a few things. Their estimate was $10k. What?! I drove an hour to my old mechanic and walked out the door with only a $600 bill. There are still a few things on the list, but they do not need immediate action. The rest of the items that were pointed out don't even need attention for at least 1-2 years. Needless to say, I will not be going back. read more

These guys were amazing; in the morning, we were stuck on the side of the freeway on a trip to Oregon with a blown radiator. By mid-afternoon, Chris' Engine had us back on the road. Incredibly fast. We got update phone calls every hour or so telling us that they found the part, when the part arrived, status of the repair. They finished sooner than they predicted and they met the cost estimate they gave us. Very good service, excellent results, and good people! Very satisfied with my experience here. My VW failed a smog check and I took it to Chris' to get it checked out. I did have to wait a couple of weeks for an appointment (not a surprise and I'm sure the Christmas holiday's didn't help, either), but once I dropped off the car, they got me a quote within a couple of hours and the car was ready a couple of days later when they said it would be. The final price was even a bit lower than their estimate. It passed the smog check the same day. Next time, I'll take it to Chris' for the smog, too. Chris offered some advice on maintenance to consider at the next oil change, but it felt like good advice and not a sales pitch. No complaints and would/will do business with Chris' again. read more

I'm not in the habit of writing negative reviews but I feel compelled to say my piece here. I came in for a brake repair and a dead battery on an older 4 Runner. Some time after I dropped of my car I received a phone call. I was told they couldn't do the repair or even test drive my car due to underbody rust, told me that they didn't want to be liable for breaking any corroded parts. I was told my car was in such dire condition that the job would snowball into a disaster with a week worth of repairs in the shop. I'm glad I got a second opinion. I took the vehicle to another shop, a national chain, where the brakes were comprehensively serviced without incident for a reasonable cost. The rust had no bearing on the job. So what was the deal here then ? I feel like they being less than forthright. Also, they charged me 175 dollars to do a load test on my battery and check for a drain, this probably took 5 minutes. This fee was not reduced after purchasing a battery from them. Other shops and battery suppliers would have done that for free or for a nominal charge. read more

I carried my 2003 Toyota Tacoma to a local dealerships because I had a P0303 fault, which is usually Spark Plugs or Coil replacement is needed. I replaced plugs and swapped Coil, but error continued. I then replaced Gas Filter, Fuel Injector in Cylinders # 3, and even replaced battery. The P0303 continued to fault and my truck was running rough, you could hear it missing. I took my truck to a local dealership, they told me $3,000 to $5,000 valve job and possibility timing chain needing replacement, and my truck would be out of service for 1 1/2 weeks. I told this Dealership I will be picking up my vehicle because I thought that was crazy. I called my best friend Don, and shared with him dealership price, he quickly responded saying that's crazy call Chris' Auto and Repair. Well I called Chris, and he said you don't need a valve job because I'm sure Shims probably needs replacement. Chris gave me an estimate over telephone, and I made an appointment. I dropped my Tacoma off Tuesday morning and picked it up same day. I have NO MORE Engine Check, and cost 20% of $3,000.00. Lastly, my truck passed Smog. I would highly recommend taking your vehicle to Chris' Auto and Repairs in Benicia. In my opinion, Chris' Auto and Repair is NOT a car repairmen out there taking average of customers.
