I saw all the people who touted their celeb clients (and prices to match) and I saw those who had super cheap rates but who were right out of school and trying to make some money. I went with Micah because he seemed to be the best "bang for the buck". He had experience producing great artists, had an ear to the music business, but his rates were quite reasonable all things considered. I was not disappointed with my decision. Micah has a laid back and fun personality, but he expects a lot from his students and will work you to make sure you are improving from week to week. I spent about half a year under Micah's instruction and saw measured results over the entire time. I saw my vocal range expand and I felt my voice get stronger. The technical part of singing became "easier" as I learned to continually practice good habits and Micah was always there to give solid feedback along the way. I also appreciated the structure of the lessons. It is not all singing scales and vocal exercises. As part of the hour long sessions, half is spent on scales, but the other half is working on songs that you choose and that Micah helps you work on in his studio. This really helps to give real world application to the tricks that you are learning and is very useful in allowing you to hear your voice in action. After my acting teacher recommended all actors do vocal training, I took the opportunity to try it. As an adult beginner with no real singing experience, searching for a place to start was intimidating, but I'm so glad I took the leap with this studio. Through the Vocal Foundation program with Stuart Wheeler, I've learned that I'm indeed NOT tone-deaf, and that with the right training and technique, I've been able to unlock a part of my voice that I've not been able to access until now. Stuart is a highly-skilled teacher, singer, and musician, with the ability to articulate complex musical terms in a way that easily clicks in my mind (and I'm not an easy person to teach!). He is a patient, compassionate instructor who provides a safe, fun space to learn and explore. I've enjoyed being able to choose the songs that we work on. My lessons have always been insightful and surprisingly empowering. In just a few months, I've gained much more control and confidence in my own voice, expanded my range, learned to be more mentally focused and present, and have sharpened my listening skills.
