I recently started taking my son to Chrispycuts. He has seen Don twice. And his hair looks the best it ever has. I explained to Don on the phone my son is Autistic and non verbal and has an extremely hard time getting his hair done. He stopped me and said "don't worry about it." I was very nervous about how this would go. My son hates change. And shockingly it went amazing. The shop is very clean and everyone from the staff to other clients are very nice. Don is a great guy and an even better barber. You can tell he has a lot of experience and loves what he does. He treats my son like any other kid. And gives him a great fade. But not only is he good with clippers but also with shears. My son keeps his hair longer on top. Nice to see a barber who can do it all. I have my cosmetology license and take notice of this kind of stuff! Would definitely recommend this shop! read more

Half the reason I am putting up this review is because with the last reviews being from 2012 and driving by twice without seeing it, I initially thought this place might not exist anymore. I think the street-number location might be a little off on bing and google maps, which kept taking me too far down the road. If you are on Rt20/Western Ave traveling westbound, its just passed the Stewarts and Valvoline. The other half of the reason was this place is great. Normally I go to any one of the few local barbershops over in Albany or East Greenbush, sit in a chair and maybe someone tries to make small talk about the weather or the Yankees and I hope no one messes up my haircut and eventually the "chore" is done. This place is not like that. It was warm in the winter, you could wear a t-shirt inside. There's some sports games on the TV's, a big leather couch, and lots of seating. They had 2 guys and a lady cutting hair on Saturday. Another patron was waiting for the lady to cut his hair so she must be pretty good. The guy who cut my hair did a really nice job on this teenager before me who was going with something that probably would've cost as a "style" at a salon, and the lady did a conservative cut on an older gentlemen who probably comes in every week to keep it neat. They did a fine job on my hair, very thorough, the barber even went back over once or twice before he was done as if to double check the quality of his work. clearly not in a rush to get me done (some places seem to rush you to maximize the number of people they can squeeze in and then you leave and wonder why you now have a mullet). I had a really interesting discussion with the barber about current events, something I can't recall doing since I was growing up and going to a family place. This place was comfortable and I will definitely be my go-to place for the future. They also take debit/credit, which I didn't need on this particular day, but is worth noting since many barber shops in the capital area are cash-only. read more

Other than as an Albany High grad it was a little tough to be in such a Guilderland High place .... The only flaw! What a fantastic barber shop. Was a walk-in today and was treated to a fantastic haircut, in a fantastic shop, at a very reasonable price. Shave and a haircut was $25 which is a great price for the work of a master barber. Will be headed back, perhaps with my AHS Falcons sweatshirt. A must check-out in my book read more

Very nice privately owned shop. The owner is young and up to date with modern styles and the average customer is younger generations. Recommend going here if you do not want the typical fashion chain, or the old-man barber that knows nothing of today's styles. read more

TERRIBLE. This barber didn't even acknowledge I walked in. I waited 30 minutes before I left, still without a simple greeting or asking me if I wanted a haircut. This guy is clearly not too self-aware. I would NOT recommend this barber shop to anyone. read more

I typically go to another local barbershop, but the person that cuts my hair is on vacation and I really needed a cut. Since my son, who is home from college, is a stickler for perfection in his haircuts (he is a millennial after all), I didn't want to be embarrassed by a bad cut, but I didn't want to pay a lot for the cut. I looked online for somewhere else; consulting Yelp among other sites for help. Finding Chrispycuts was awesome. I've seen it before, passing a thousand times running up and down Western Ave, but never thought twice about it. When I got there I saw 3 cars in the parking lot. I was sure I should have just gone back to my old shop as there were no cars in the parking lot and I wouldn't have had to wait. When I got inside, they had 4 chairs going, so I didn't have to wait at all. Don asked if I had an appointment, and I said, "No". He said no problem, he could take me as soon as I put my coat down. He was friendly; we talked about issues with raising a child by himself, losing a scholarship and getting into the hair styling biz. While we talked, he did a fantastic job cutting, even noting a problem with the way my hair falls. He took the time to restyle that problem, even though someone who was clearly a regular had walked in about 10 minutes earlier. I loved the cut and maybe equally important (probably not quite), my son was impressed. Anyway, the shop was neat and clean, the two female barbers were very attractive and the walls were Guilderlandcentric. There is something to be said for ambiance so you can't discount what's going on in the room. I highly recommend Chrispycuts. I will definitely be going back. read more
