Not my cup of tea Church. If your new to the area and looking for a church to call home this isn't…read morethe place. Unless you're conformed to religion. Being new to this church, your first expression should always matter.. right? I was expecting most church-goers & staff of the church to be very friendly when my sister and I first walked in. Wrong.. everyone seemed to talk amongst themselves & to the people they only knew. The ushers of the church were there to do one job and that was to seat people. To think about it, I only really saw one usher helping people. My sister and I sat ourselves. Everyone else was still trying to find a seat to rest their butts especially when the service had already began. It was annoying having multiple groups walk in front of my view, because the church had limited amounts of seats. You would think this is a non denominational church... again wrong. The pastor Dusty Thompson kept referring to the crowd as Christians & if you're not one it was problematic. As if this is a church of Christianity. He kept repeating, this is a method for Christians and if you're not a Christian pray that God would help you convert. WTH? Pastor Dusty Thompson, as a monotone teacher would do. He read his from the Bible word from word. He didn't even attempt to put it in his own words, tell a story, or put motivation in it. It was very humid, stale, boring, and unstimulating to bear. Myself and the guy sitting right next to me found ourselves in a bore state almost falling asleep in service. As like the Catholics do, here at Redeemer communion is done very similar. Instead of everyone drinking from the cup; everyone instead dips their bread into that one cup of wine.. germs spread this way! And you wonder why Lubbock is the #1 in nation for STD.. stop the spread of germs! I find that extremely unsanitary. With that being said think about germs from each individual who attends. Disgusting! No matter where you are if it's blessed or not germs don't care who you are. After that first time attending and experiencing that awful service, my sister and I decided to listen from our home to our pastor Joel O. on a podcast, because pastor Dusty is confused on what he wants to preach about.

Briefly about me: I was raised in a huge Methodist church, went to an Episcopal school, (forced to)…read moretake years and years of religion classes, my best friend was Catholic, and a roommate of mine in college was Hindu... Without realizing it I had a very holistic exposure to religion. Unfortunately, the church I grew up in was very heavy on gossip and politics and I was turned off completely. Skip ahead a few years and I was reconnected with a close friend from High School. He and his wife invited us a few times to the church and I was still a bit leery about church in general. Thankfully our friends were persistent and we joined them at Experience Life. I was immediately blown away because people were genuinely nice, the house band was as good as any band I've ever heard, the music they planned were things you would hear on just about any radio station, it was loud, and the preacher wore jeans and a T-shirt. I'll never forget something he said during our first visit, Pastor Chris said the fact that there are things called 'Sunday clothes' means that something is wrong. Everything about ELife was different then anything I had experienced and we were immediately impressed. If you are looking for a church that you feel happy to be attending then I would highly encourage you to give any campus of ELife a try. Worst case scenario is you'll get a free Tshirt, but most people see how nice this change of pace is. With that said, ELife may not be for everyone and that's fine. My grandparents would not enjoy Experience Life though a number of grandparent aged individuals attend, and some that want a more traditional church (you know, monotone hymns and shiny brass collection plates) would not like it. With all this said, I will admit that my time attending and volunteering at ELife has been a greatly satisfying experience.

Their main focus is on whether you're gay, whether you're married and whether you pay tidings. They're a political church more than a place of love and worship. They're very welcoming, and as long as you stay just a guest, you're always welcome. But if you don't fall in line of their exact beliefs, regulations and standards....almost to a cult like precision, don't try to be more than just a guest. If you're looking for a place to show up on Sunday just to say you went, this place is for you. If you want your place of worship to be more than that, if you want to be a part of a community that loves and accepts everyone as GODs children, and a place where you can feel free to worship and know GOD personally in your heart, no matter what your politics, sexuality, or income is, make sure that all of those things line up with their criteria before investing into this church.

I have attended Trinity Church for almost 6 years now. I was hesitant at first to go to a large…read morechurch because I grew up in a small town and went to a small very traditional Methodist church. I have read the negative reviews on here, which is why I wanted to write my own. Pastor Carl Toti preaches what's EXACTLY in the bible! He doesn't sugar coat it or rearrange the wording to make people "feel better". The reality is that the Bible is tough to read sometimes. I myself feel convicted at times. That is because sometimes the truth hurts, and we get our "feelers" hurt when we feel convicted about our wrongdoings. However, what I love is that Pastor Toti also preaches the truth about God's forgiveness and God's love. This is not a political church at all. The "World View" section is a chance to get a biblical view of current events actually going on in the world. As far as this being a "cult-like" mentality or unfriendly staff, that is quite the contrary. How I found my place in the church was by attending small groups and then getting to know people in that group and branching out. I later started volunteering and met more people. I ended up running into people I already knew and invited my own friends to attend. Trinity is geared towards community! I have made some forever friendships there! I will also clear up about what Trinity does for the community. They have a ministry called "Love Lubbock", which church members, guests, friends, etc go out into the community and help do community clean up, repairs, deliver needed supplies, and share the love of God. "For Her" is a safe place for women to go who are considering abortion. They are offered information, support, and given a sonogram of their unborn child. They are ministered to by loving staff. Pastor Gloria Toti, (Pastor Carl's wife) is active in the women's ministry (Prize 31). She also helped start the nonprofit One Voice Home which is a Safe haven for young girls and women who have fallen victim to sex trafficking. She is one of the most gracious, loving women of God I've ever met and she would literally give you the shirt off of her own back. My best advice is to come see for yourself, and yes, you will be welcomed!

However, a few weeks ago we came and brought guests for the first time. During a very solemn, powerful moment during worship, a woman towards the front started blowing loudly on a horn. It was so jarring and disorderly, totally disturbed the intimate moment in worship. My visitors were very thrown off, as was I. The atmosphere was completely disrupted. I grew up around church, so I understand not wanting to offend anyone, and I understand generational differences. However, the church does not exist for the healthy, but the sick (in this case, the visitors). I truly believe it's possible to make the gospel palatable and approachable without watering it down. The incident I described above with the horn at inappropriate times has happened repeatedly since then. It's a disruption most of the room has to overlook for the one person, and that's okay for those of us who are believers and are already stable in our faith. Unfortunately I feel like I cannot bring another visitor to my campus/service again with such a blaring disruption there to disturb moments with the Lord that could otherwise be restorative and impactful. That being said, we love Pastor Todd's preaching like I said, and we are grateful for a church like this in Lubbock! I just thought I would share our experience in case it helps someone else. But we hope to continue attending and serving and growing with TWC for a long time.
