Instant gratification from the well thought out books that line the shelves. Just the right mix of new, niche and even a grand selection for kids. As other Yelpers have noted, they know their target audience well with a brilliant range of travel, fashion, fiction and gift-items. Instant gratification that you can take your book home with you then and there. If you've timed your visit right you can then proceed to spend the afternoon, with a cup of tea, devouring your new book. Instant gratification that you've helped a local businesses. If we live in an era of instant gratification then this is the kind I want. Not the momentary rush of hitting "buy now" and waiting for it to arrive. Damon and his team have kept this little book shop humming when many haven't survived and I hope it stays that way.

The staff are cool and very helpful, there's no judgement if you ask for the latest fantasy novel (we all have guilty secrets OK) and they now sell gourmet chocolates in store. They also have a pretty sweet collection of fiction and some truly fantastic journals and diaries bound to look like antique books. So good. The trouble is picking a section in which to start browsing, because you get turned around and dazed with so many book and category choices. A kind of strange thing that stands out about Folio Books for me is that everything is shiny and new. I like a little bit of history to my books but this isn't an antique store, I must remind myself, so I shouldn't be too judgmental. Selling a large contingency of books, the shelves here are very neatly organised and offer some quality titles. The display cases here are also worth a gander as they can offer up some real bargains. (Especially in the way of cameras, an old canon only sets you back $80 here!) ...But the reason why I love coming here has to be the staff. The lovely lady here is hands down the friendliest op-shop attendant I've experienced in Brisbane. (..apart from the Ipswich flower mill nanna.) With it's easy Oxford location and thrift store prices, I highly recommend popping in.

Show me a bookstore and you'll keep me occupied for a lot longer than you'd probably like. This little second hand charity book store is a revelation. I never knew I had been living a few suburbs away from my dream place. CFQ Bookshop is 1 of 2 in Brisbane (the other one is at Salisbury for the Southsiders) and supports Cystic Fibrosis with its sales. Set in a shed just next to the Nundah railway station, it's tucked away from the world and the perfect spot to donate some old books you haven't gotten around to reading yet. While you're there pick some more up! Prices are great at $4 a pop or go crazy like I did and get 8 for $25. The selection ranges from A-Z of fiction plus a special section for sci-fi and young adult, plus some non-fiction and comics too. I could've spent a lot longer there but I figure I know I'm definitely revisiting so I'll save some for next time. Keep it a secret though won't you?

Had a lot of books to donate found Cystic Fibrosis shop and looking forward to donating them here…read morewent today and was disappointed by one of the staff he just said put them up here no help whatsoever and started going through them throwing them which was not nice, and then another older gentleman came with a trolley and helped us. He was lovely and excited to see we had some music books as he said we don't get many of them. We had also sorted them into their genre and none were torn and dirty. So disappointed by what we saw. Yes I have worked as a volunteer so I do know what is exceptable and not. A lot of them were brand new. I just hope they are going to help people less fortunate than us. Just sad to see how these were handled.

I love the other wordly-ness of this store, you can roam the long corridors and feel quite insignificant gazing up at the vast piles of literature. You can also geek over the abundant smell of old literature and spend whole days in perusing the large range of well worn and well loved books. Insider tip! Those with severe dust allergies are strongly recommended to bring a mask (..and perhaps a sandwich because your probably going to be there all day.)

There are always people browsing the new releases or specials near the door. On the second level, books are arranged in categories such as art, computer, cook books and gardening. They have an impressive variety of specialist books, though it's hardly surprising given their shop space. Also, keep your eye out for book signings. Admittedly, the last time I went, it was Ray Martin signing his latest book 'Ray Martin's Favourites' but some of my favourite authors are bound to show up eventually.

They've been open only two or three weeks and as well as supplying you with a decent range of books and stationary to keep you entertained once in flight, there's a café kiosk pouring Campos Coffee at standard café prices ($3.60 for a small coffee) as well as a small selection of cakes, quiches and muffins. And the real bonus, kids? Their long communal tables situated mid-store. Set your phone up as a hotspot, pop up that laptop or iPad, order your coffee of choice and enjoy a peaceful power work session before your flight departs.

My coffee came with a tiny choc chip cookie on the rim (free things will win me over no matter the scale!) - so cute! Service was good and friendly - the guy who served me was pleasant despite still being at work at 5pm on a Friday afternoon. Sat. Ate. Caffienated. Paged through books I had no intention of buying.... Not a bad way to wait around for my flight!

They frequently stock those awesome authors which for some reason the chain bookstores don't stock, but Pulp Fiction understands how great they are. I would also recommend their recommendations; reading their little yellow tags has helped me find some true gems. It's a great idea to visit this place if you're don't know what present to get a fellow reader, as well.

Pulp Fiction is a little bookshop specialising in science fiction, fantasy, crime and mystery novels. They have a great selection with titles you don't normally see in your average chain bookshop. They are also happy to get books in for you if you are looking for something in particular. The staff are very willing to give you recommendations on what to read and you can see their immense love and enthusiasm for the store and the genres and books that they sell. You get a very personalised and expert experience going here, primarily because it is a genre bookstore. While I love a good science fiction or fantasy book, it really was the classic pulp crime novels that had me so excited. Rarely do you see such an extensive collection of new and old crime fiction. I have had an obsession with old film noir movies since a young age and to find a bookshop that stocks the Raymond Chandlers and Dashiell Hammet's that inspired these films made my heart beat just that little bit faster in excitement. To be able to read about Sam Spade or Philip Marlowe in these old 1940s hard-boiled detective novels was such a privilege. Now I know you can probably find these titles on the internet but there really is nothing like browsing through a bookshop, the tactile sensation of the cover, being able to flick to any page in a novel to read a line or two and see if you like it. I adore Pulp Fiction Bookshop and just can't get enough of it. I could easily spend all my time and money here and be one very happy girl.
