Ambience was spectacular. The restaurant is beautiful and clearly curated artistically everything from the drink menus to the bathroom was beautiful. The food was good, the bruschetta was on the smaller side and the ratio of bread to topping made it difficult to eat. I wish my pizza had come out just a little bit crispier, it was cool by the time it reached the table but my friends was hot so mine must have come out first. The staff were great they quickly cleared the plates, brought extra Parmesan and were very nice and attentive. Definitely a top spot in Belfast. read more

This is the place for great Italian food near the city hall area. First night stumbled on it by accident and what a find! Valeria was superb. The carbonara was outstanding. Second night we wanted to go back but had to wait (our own fault with no reservation), and again they couldn't have been nicer. I don't think any dish would disappoint. This place is such a win! Was visiting Belfast for work and happened upon this adorable place. The actual restaurant is well decorated and clean. It's a comfortable atmosphere and the ceiling is covered in cute lil cherub babies! The food was great, not very expensive, and they allowed us to split the bill among 6 people, which is not super common in Northern Ireland. The for sure winner for us was the veggie manicotti-so cheesy and filling! Overall, I really enjoyed my time here with my friends. It's also a great photo spot! read more

There's not much I can eat in their menu (allergic to dairy and gluten). I had the risotto. It was very good. It would be better if they had more on their menu that I could eat. The food that my colleagues had (the things that I can't eat) looked really good and they raved about it. It's really cute. There are pictures of cherubs about and garden lattice with silk vines. The service is good. It's very tight on space. You need to make a reservation. We tried, but no one picked up the phone. So, we went there and had to make a reservation for an hour later. read more

This is a lovely little place that makes you smile when you walk in. Friendly and prompt service. The food is next level. Best gnocchi I've ever had. Even the carrots were perfectly cooked and roasted and that goes for everything else on my plate. Definitely recommend. read more

I wanted to try this adorable place but I was told they had no open tables - mind you it was pretty empty. They asked if I had a reservation and I did not so they turned me away since they were "all booked" ....I checked online and sure enough they had openings for the next hour. I visited Chubby Cherub last night for dinner and it turned out to be a lovely experience. When entering the restaurant I was shocked by its size! Very small indeed so I hoped for quick service and I wasn't disappointed. I tried the house wine, a savignon blanc which I really enjoyed. The menu is not extensive but I always prefer a one page menu as I take it as a sign of expertise when a restaurant is brave enough to give you a limited choice: those dishes must be perfectly prepared then! There were three of us and we decided to share 2 pizzas: Garda and Como and both were beautiful! Lovely crisp base, and a perfect balance of toppings. Very tasty indeed and I tell you I'm fussy with my pizza! The pannacotta and the lemon possett we tried were also beautiful. Service was quick, staff attentive but not too pushy. The only thing I did not like is the service charge added to our bill. I feel like it is a lack of trust towards customers. I would understand the service charge for large groups in huge restaurants where waiters cover loads of tables over different floors but in Chubby Cherub you can reach the farthest table in 5 steps so I find it a bit cheeky. Lovely experience overall and I definitely plan to return for a date night in their "Cupid corner" with the Mr. PS don't let the decor put you off! It is way too much but authentic based on my memories of visits to Italy. read more

I can't rate this place highly enough!! This place is really cool, quirky and completely different to most places I've been to in belfast. It's really small so if you do decided to go I'd definitely ring up and book a table just to be on the safe side. I like the fact it's so small, means if there only dealing with a smaller crowd there going to take more time with your food. I had tagliatelle Bolognese and it was outstanding, once it came out I thought there wasn't very much of it and id have no problem munching my way through it. Oh how I was wrong. It was the perfect amount, as I soaked up the last of the sauce with the garlic bread they give you (don't need to order it they supply it) I thought I couldn't eat another bite. My friend had the Wild Mushroom Carbonara she was just as pleased as I was. The staff are very friendly and couldn't do enough for you! And it's very quick service. From the outside this place looks very outdated and abit run down, but don't let the looks of outside fool you. I'll defiantly be back here in the near future as i would like to try more of the menu!! read more

We booked for 9:30pm and were not seated until an HOUR later. The manager upon arrival told us the table would be 10 minutes, then that we were next up and then after about 40 minutes sat us at a waiting table that did not even fit the four of us - one of us has to stand. The waitress was very short with us when we did get to order and the food was served mains right after starters, making us feel rushed, even though it was not our fault that we ended up ordering so late! When we asked to speak to the manager she was gone having left without apologising for frankly abysmal service. We spoke to a younger man who was relatively apologetic but gave no reason for the hour long delay. If the manager had have just been honest with us at the outset we could have gotten the (hefty) deposit back and eaten elsewhere, but we instead waited and when we realised she had misled us it was too late to leave and eat elsewhere. The owner mentions in another review's replies that the deposit is so that you are guaranteed service at the time you book. This was clearly not the case for us. The food in no way made it feel like the wait was worthwhile. My friends drink even had an orange slice with a sticker still on it! read more

I spent the early hours of Saturday morning in search of a place to take my girlfriend for dinner in celebrations for her Birthday. Having the same love for Italian cuisine, I decided to take a leap going somewhere completely different away from the typical restaurants. I came across Chubby Cherub on Yelp and it looked exactly what I was after. Chubby Cherub was full of character as soon as we stepped through the door with the decor and smells from the kitchen. My girlfriend always likes places that are a wee bit different or have their own personality and refers to these places as "Quirky" all the time. As much as I am always poking fun of her overuse of the term, it was the first description I gave of the place as soon as I sat down at my table and looked at the decor. The Waitress on that night was very welcoming and helpful as she asked us if we had ever been here before which she was then able to recommend us dishes and let us know what she personally enjoyed the most. Being all romantic we actually got the corner table, called "Cupid's Corner" which was secluded away from the other tables. I won't lie when my food was sat down in front of me I thought "Jeeze, I'm gonna be hungry after this.", I couldn't have been any more wrong. The portion sizes were nothing but perfect I was stuffed after eating my last meatball. After having the Meatballs, Pollo Tagliatelle and 2 glasses of the Red House Wine we ordered a Dessert to share, then the waitress sat a Pannacotta along with our ordered Tiramusu and told us "here's extra" which we gladly accepted with big smiles on our faces. Chubby Cherub was smaller than we expected but that doesn't mean smaller is always bad, it gave more of a chilled yet personal atmosphere. It's full of character with the vines up the walls and dimly lit lamps. Having been to Rome we were left feeling like we were back on holiday...lucky enough we are going back to Rome in June so Chubby Cherub got us really excited about that along with the awesome food and surroundings. read more

I have eaten in chubby cherub many times before and hadn't been disappointed until this week. We were the only customers which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It is a small place and can feel crowded when busy but the decor is lovely. My mum and I had called in before going to an event and as the restaurant was so close we thought it best. The food was a bit disappointing. We had a starter of bread and oils to share followed by a pizza also to share. The bill was what I would expect to pay if we had both had a starter and a main. The service was good and I will go back based on previous experiences but won't rush to it. read more

First time to Belfast, found this lovely place at the end of a pleasant day. While it is a tiny (cozy) place, the staff ensured we were comfortable during our visit. The food was very good (Mussels,Pollo tagliatelle, gnocchi, pizza with Parma). I wish I could share a picture, as it was also very pleasant to look at - but the aroma and flavors took the focus ... so we ate it instead of photographing it. Full of flavor with perfect portions. Being part of the am:pm franchise I must say I was so excited to finally get to try this place out. It's pretty much an Italian restaurant specialising in Pizza cooked in their stone oven. I decided pizza was the way to go and went for the Vesuvius, as I love spicy pizza and this one consisted of mozzarella, pepperoni & hot green peppers with parmesan & chilli oil on a hot tomato base. It was in one word magnificent! The pizza was perfectly cooked, very big and nice and spicy! Just the way I like it! I had also sampled their Brushetta to start and it really was as good as Villa Italia's, and that's saying something! I'm so glad they've kept up their high standards with this place and I'm certainly going to be coming back! read more

We were looking for a nice, local place to eat lunch on our last day in Belfast. We lucked out finding Chubby Cherub! The meals were perfectly cooked and so yummy. I couldn't have asked for a more inviting, delicious lunch. I recommend the risotto. The bread sampler is so lovely too, with three dipping sauces to enjoy. You can't beat the prices for lunch as well. Although the beer selection & decor was a little lacking, I recommend this little, unassuming Belfast gem. read more

We went to Chubby Cherub after seeing a friend post a pic of her meal she had here on Twitter, after seeing it, that was me sold! We booked our table for 6:30pm on a Wednesday afternoon as I was glad we did, because the place was packed to the rafters! There didn't seem to be that many staff on despite the restaurant being so full, so I expected a wait, but I'm pleased to say, that wasn't the case. We opted for the breads to start, followed by the Gorgonzola salad, and it was totally fantastic. We had plenty of drink orders throughout the meal also, and we were served quickly and efficiently, in total contrast to my earlier reservations about the staff/customer ratio. I really love this wee restaurant, and they have anything you could want on their menu, plus lots of other creative dishes, so you will absolutely never be stuck for choice. Going back tomorrow and can't wait! read more

Great place to dine in , great atmosphere and ambiance, food was gorgeous , got the mushrooms with smoked cheese and they were very flavoursome , could have ate them all day, also got the carbonara with parmesan and the pasta was just the right texture and the carbonara sauce was really creamy, the ham was tender. This is a preliminary review which will be updated tomorrow when I've sampled their eat-in menu. The newly opened boutique bistro The Chubby Cherub is owned by the folks who run the popular night spot am:pm and sits right across the road from their flagship joint. I walk past this area every day and was curious for a long time as to what kind of place this way, apparently modern Italian cuisine with an all night (until4am) pizza hatch. The sit in menu looks superb, essentially what they do is have salads, sandwiches and wood fired oven cooked pizzas throughout the week plus three random, daily specials. It's a fantastic concept which I wish more folks would do around here. Literally no more than two hours ago we thought we'd walk around to see what was what and get a pizza to go. I went for one with pepperoni, sweet peppers, parmesan and chilli oil. Fantastically crisp base with doughy chewy crusts, oodles of unctuous mozzarella cheese, suitably salty meat and a spattering of peppers. Delicious. One of the pizzas I've had in this country. Heading back tomorrow night to sample the sit-in experience so I will update then. read more

In Belfast for the day and after a couple of pints in the Crown Bar and finding that its restaurant was booked out for the night we headed to the Kitchen bar but it was closing early on the Sunday night so Yelp recommended the Chubby Cherub next to Victoria Square. It was really great. We had a chicken tagliatelle and a Como pizza both of which were super. The service was excellent and friendly and the decor was lovely. I would highly recommend the Cherub and will revisit when next in Belfast. Total bill including 10% service charge came to £24. There was an option to have the set dinner menu of four courses for £20 per person but we just could not have physically fit the food in. read more

Have visited the chubby cherub a few times and it's always been hit and miss however my visit tonight was absolutely awful. We had told them whilst booking it was our wedding anniversary and they thought the best place to seat us on this special occasion was at a table that may as well have been IN THE KITCHEN! My view for the whole evening was a bin which was overflowing with rubbish and a block of butter that was being used for the customers. My risotto was bland and too al dente (I've visited Italy many times and never has the risotto been so crunchy it has stuck in my teeth). When I was asked if my dinner was ok and I told them it wasn't good at all the girl said "well atleast you had your starter" when my husband questioned why the risotto was still on the bill (I had two mouthfuls of it) the waitress told us the manager said she couldn't take it off the bill however she had taken off the bread which was £1.50. Will not be returning and I advise with the cleanliness of the restaurant you will give it a steer too! Bad service bad food and bad over all! read more

We stumbled upon the Chubby Cherub this afternoon. The place looked quite nice and cozy so my husband checked to see if they would welcome us with our two year old son. The server was incredibly kind and said they would love to have us (but warned there were no high chairs). The place is quaint and cozy. The music was a bit loud at the beginning but I noticed later on it was turned down a bit. The breads were still being baked on our arrival so we put in an order for a "garlic bread pizza". I don't like butter, but this one was quite nice, either they used olive oil or the butter was masked by the lovely parmigiana, and rocket I cheated and took the lemon from my water and squeezed it over the top and it was gorgeous. The little one couldn't seem to get enough , but he did pick off the garlic. Our server had recommended two specials in paticular. Both were lovely. My husband had chicken on the bone of a creamy homemade tagliatelle with pancetta and mushrooms and I had tiger prawns in a slightly spicy orzo with fresh peas, and green beans. Both pastas were cooked al dente just as I think they should be and my little one couldn't stop stealling spoons of my orzo and this time he didn't pass up on the veggies The prices are decent though I could have eaten loads more of the pasta. The good thing is that you won't be over stuffed at the end of the night if you decide to add wine or dessert. This was a good find, and we hope to enjoy it again. read more

Called in here for a quick bite to eat before an event. Why? Because it was close and a Tuesday evening and we hadn't booked. We had the most basic thing on the menu some bread, oil and tapenade to share and a 12" pizza also to share plus 2 glasses of house white. The place was empty and the service was ok. Food wise I've had far better for less but hey its the city centre and times are hard in the restaurant business so you expect to pay a bit more! The bread was nondescript the pizza was a bit tasteless. I had expectations of deliciousness as it was £15 but sadly my expectations weren't met as it was decidedly average. Then came the bill £35 including a 10% stealth service charge for 2 of us?? I would usually leave a cash tip but I understood tipping was discretionary unless it was a large group and no the waiter wasn't wearing a mask! So no I wouldn't hurry back or recommend it for anything other than the kitsch and eclectic style decor which customers obviously pay for with those prices. read more

I'd passed this place a couple of times since it opened and it always looked so warm and so pretty with all the candles, so when we were looking for somewhere to take my sister for her birthday, we thought we should give it a try. It's a very small little restaurant (or some might say "cosy") but it's beautifully decorated inside, with all the greenery, candles and pictures of cherubs everywhere. We went on a Sunday evening so it was pretty quiet. We'd called a couple of weeks before to reserve a table for the 7 of us but when we arrived they'd only reserved a table for 6 because the person taking the booking apparently hadn't written down the number of people in our party. Thankfully that was the last problem we had and they soon sorted it out by adding another little table on to the end of ours. We soon settled in and looked at the main menu and the day's meat and pasta specials (these change every day so they come on a separate printed sheet). There were a few "picky" people in our group but even they managed to find something they liked the look of. We tried several of the pizzas, one of the specials and a couple of the side orders of potatoes. Everything was really delicious. Even my husband, who doesn't really like pizza, enjoyed their thin crust. Personally I would have preferred a little more topping (when your pizza supposedly comes with green peppers you generally expect more than three thin rings of it on the whole pizza) but it was still filling. The garlic potatoes with pancetta were lovely but again you don't get very many of them. We of course had to try the desserts too. I can't comment on anyone else's (although they certainly looked happy eating them) but the panacotta with berries I had was to die for - rich, sweet and creamy with the tartness of the berries - perfect! It's fairly good value too - not the cheapest place in town but certainly no more expensive than any of the other popular Italian places around. Also bonus points for letting us sit and chat for a while without bothering us or hurrying us to leave. I would definitely go back again some time, maybe for a date night with hubby next time - it's a great place for a small group to dine but I think it would be perfect for a romantic evening with someone special. read more

The Chubby Cherub is a newly opened Italian restaurant in Belfast City Centre. Well, when I say 'restaurant', 'bistro' might be a better word to describe it - it's a tiny little place, probably more suited to small groups of people with its cosy and intimate atmosphere, pretty Italian décor and candlelit tables. The food in my opinion definitely stands tall alongside the big Italian restaurants like Villa Italia and Scalinis - they offer a great selection of stonebaked pizzas as well as pasta dishes and what is great about the menu is that its ever-changing - they have different meat and seafood specials on most days. I highly recommend the 'Como' pizza which has toppings of goats cheese, caramelized onions and salami - great for a cheese freak like me! The special on the night I was there was gnocchi and it was absolutely sensational. Worth putting on as a staple on the menu I think! I would have loved to try their Charcuterie Platter for starters but managed to decline, for fear of becoming a Chubby Cherub myself! Will save that for next time. If you're out and about Belfast in the evening for food, I would really recommend you give this place a go. Fantastico! read more

The Chubby Cherub is a tiny restaurant over decked in dripping Italian decor. Kitsch and wonderfully gaudy. You had better like who you dine with as the tables are tiny and packed close together! The food is delectable with a full range of pastas, salads and pizzas and great veggie options. For my latest visit I indulged in portobello mushroom starter and Verona salad main. Starter was a massive portion of 4 mushrooms stuffed with leeks, smoked mozzarella and herb butter - absolutely scrumptious. My salad consisted of goat's cheese, beetroot, caramelised onion, pine nuts and balsamic dressing and again was yummy. I tried a glass each of the very good house white and red wines. If I could fault Chubby Cherub on anything it's that it's a little pricey and they also put an automatic 10% service charge on all bills - which I absolutely detest - I think I personally should be the judge of if and how much I tip. However I was visiting the restaurant on an offer they are currently running consisting of 2 courses and a glass of wine for 2 people for £30. So on this occasion I didn't mind. However if you didn't avail of a meal deal/offer an evening out here could be expensive. Great food though... read more

We kept passing this place in the centre of town and decided one day that we had to go. Booking is well advised. We had to confirm on the day that we still wanted the booking, it seems very busy! We arrived a little early, expecting to have to go elsewhere for a drink to wait. However, we could get in straight away. We got a nice little table in front of the kitchen, and the first thing that struck us were the surroundings. It would have been easy to make fake grapes and chandeliers look tacky, but the owners have designed it such that it looks stunning. A really charming little place. It is quite little! Some tables may be a bit claustrophobic. The waitress was pleasant, and we ordered. Breadsticks with parma ham and homemade pesto was a simple but tasty starter, and we both had the famous pizzas. Real Italian style pizzas, not just American/takeaway style that some restaurants offer. Streaks ahead of the nearest competitor - Little Wing. Stone oven baked and covered in fresh toppings. The house white wine was a nice little number, and Peroni on tap was a refreshing Italian beer. We shared a dessert as we were quite full, but managed to finish it. We did not feel rushed, as despite it being busy, and having to turn people away or ask them to come back later, we were left to consume our bottle of wine. We had been told when booking that the table would need to be vacated after 1 1/2 hours anyway. The bill was surprisingly reasonable for 2 drinks followed by a bottle of wine, starters, mains and a shared dessert. I would wholeheartedly recommend this little hidden gem to anyone. read more

We have visited the Chubby Cherub before and were really happy. On a damp post Christmas afternoon, we thought it would be just the job. How disappointing. The service was pathetically slow - my goats cheese salad sat tantalisingly on the counter in front of me, but wasn't served until 45 minutes later, when my husband's pizza was finally made. Very poor for a wee place that had such great promise. They voluntarily took the drinks off the bill and were pleasant, but the staff need to wake up and be more efficient. read more

.... i will not go back there .... Every day when i go to work I pass this little nice Chubby Cherub place so yesterday we with husband decided to go and have some food there. Food was good. But - we asked if we can sit at one of the nice little tables.. no, a waitress replied, this table is for four people... Ok,fine with us.. And we were shown to a table in the Cherubs Corner where i started to feel like sent to some exile from which i could only see the table where we were not allowed to sit... Which would be OK if only four people would come and eat there.. But a few minutes later just a young man sat there and read a newspaper.. and after a half an hour two ladies joined him... They did not order anything.. they did not eat or drink... they simply were friends of the staff or something like that... who knows.. I even don't care... I was a paying customer but felt like a third class citizen... That's all... Food was good, but nowadays you can get good food in many places:) That is my and only my experience, and maybe it was a full moon influence, but that's what i will tell my colleagues and friends read more
