Several coolers of beer and non-alcoholic drinks lined the VIP area and we also had access to a full bar. Food was standard ballpark food plus sides - huge hot dogs and brats, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls, mac & cheese, and more. Bags of peanuts and cracker jacks were laid on the tables and a freezer held dippin' dots. Later we received coupons for soft serve ice cream. A section of seats was available to our group to watch the game; however, we could see from our VIP section. Overall the staff were friendly. They oversaw the coolers and bars, and we were regularly ID'ed.

His grandfather was being honored for his connection to the Negro Leagues, and he told us that his grandfather had even thrown out the first pitch at Victory Field a few years ago--while in a wheelchair. We couldn't pass up the opportunity to be there for such a special moment. We only had a short time before we needed to head to the concert, so we went in specifically to see the tribute and experience a little bit of the stadium. Even though we weren't there for an entire game, I'm really glad we got the chance to visit. Congrats Bill Owen's and family! One thing I loved was how much Victory Field embraces and honors the history of the team and the people who helped shape baseball. There was so much excitement and genuine support throughout the stadium, and it was really special to see the crowd come together to honor someone's family history. The location was also incredibly convenient for us. The stadium was directly across from our hotel, so it couldn't have been easier to get to. What started as a random encounter on our way to another event turned into a really meaningful experience. We were honored to be able to support this man and his grandfather, Bill Owen's, and witness a small but incredibly special piece of Victory Field's history. Sometimes the unexpected parts of a trip end up being the memories you remember the most.

Most of the area is uneven grass, though it's usually cut, and there aren't many good walking paths within the park itself. I've listened to live music at the amphitheater and really enjoyed that! I've also longboarded here; the main path along the road seems newer and usually clear. I've played tennis on the courts too, but they could use just a little TLC. Really, the whole park could. Still, it's a peaceful spot with room to grow.

But the grounds are overgrown and weedy, equipment fading and in disrepair and my encounter with staff was not uplifting. The pool is locked and empty. I inquired about the status at the front desk. The clerk did not look up from her computer but said the pool was being serviced and they had no idea if and when it would be fixed. I didn't see anyone working on the pool. Since they have a summer camp in session, it would be great if the pool was operational. There is a really nice set of tennis courts (12ish). There is green space for football and a baseball diamond. A nice set of workout equipment from the Colts seems in need of a good cleaning. I was excited to find a boat ramp with parking area. This area needs to be cleaned and patrolled. The River access site is beautiful. The park offers free daily lunches to those in need and also provides summer camps. I found these resources valuable to the community. I was really surprised to find the park not pristine and vibrant for 4th of July holiday. The flagpoles were even empty.

This is a nice small park located in Lapel. It is a decent sized park with a small private parking…read morelot. It is a very well maintained park and is home to a small skate park with a ramp, steps and rails. There is also a decent sized playground that is lined with wood chips. Some of the playground's equipment includes a metal slide (oucchhh), a bank of worn traditional/toddler swings, a see-saw, a tunnel tube, a balance board, a climbing tree, and standing spinner. The equipment is older for the most part, but is still in pretty decent shape. You will also find a large black top near the back of the park that has a small shelter with a couple of picnic tables under it. The black top also has 2 half basketball courts. The black top is in fair condition. The park has a small black top area between the playground and the skate area that can be used to play hopscotch, four square or other blacktop games. The park has a few green space areas that could be used for pick up football games, soccer matches, or have a picnic. There are 3, decent baseball fields on the parks back perimeter. They appear to be used for the towns little league teams and not actually part of the park. I will admit, this is not a destination park, but is a cool place to visit if you are in the area looking for a place to hang out. It was a nice day during my visit and I found the park very peaceful (minus the kids at the nearby school yelling while they were playing at recess).

I had the opportunity tonight to offer the opening prayer at "A Night Under the Stars," the annual…read moregala raising funds for League of Miracles. League of Miracles is a sports complex designed specifically for children with disabilities and their families to participate in recreational opportunities. They are a non-profit organization governed by a board of directors. Located 3 miles east of Mooresville, they draw participating children and teens from several counties. During the Fall and Summer of each year, they operate a baseball league. Other times, they can be found sponsoring kickball. During the pandemic, they even did what they could and offered virtual activities. The baseball field is made entirely of rubber - this allows individuals in wheelchairs and who use walkers to round the bases safely. They also have a 40-foot by 60-foot building that is equipped with a large air-conditioned community room, a concession stand, and four fully ADA accessible restrooms (trust me, this is rare at a baseball diamond). They have ample parking and quite a few accessible parking spots. During tonight's gala, they were recognizing a young man who'd raised enough money to get an actual scoreboard installed. They have a goal of increasing their sports opportunities and to also transition into allowing adults to play. They have a special relationship with veterans groups and would love to get to a point of offering activities in adaptive sports for vets. Tonight's speaker was an Iraq War Veteran who became a double amputee after a bombing. They also have a relationship with nearby Damar Services. Many of the players have "buddies" and area high school students are known to get involved. They offer sponsorship opportunities for buddies, teams, the backstop sign, the outfield banners, a celebration sponsor, and an MVP sponsorship. I was super impressed with this organization tonight and with the dedication of its executive director and volunteers. I appreciated that they had a couple of the kids speak and they really spoke to strengths while also acknowledging disabilities. I even ran into the co-owner of my very first employer (I was awful, but it was a good learning experience). That made an already special night even more special.

Abner Langley is a hidden gem of a park. The 51 acre park has just about everything, including…read moremature shade trees. The kids loved the splash pad which was built in 2019. I loved the comfy lounge chairs under big umbrellas. We were the only family in the park so, the kids had the splash pad to themselves. There are pickleball courts, a basketball court, baseball field and lots of open space to play. There are several climbing structures and some vintage playground equipment as well. The equipment is surrounded by mulch which was a little muddy from recent rains. The single pavilion is equipped with a grill and picnic tables. A restroom facility is near one of the two parking lots. There is plenty of parking, including accessible spots. Most of the park is accessible including the splash pads. The grounds are well maintained. I saw lots of wildlife during our visit. Are you wondering who was Abner Langley? He is claimed to be the first resident of Lebanon, Indiana. This is a great little park in a natural setting.

We've attended many Colts training camp sessions here over the past several years. Always a great…read moretime! Today we are sitting in the Colt's Season Ticket Member suite. A perfect day, nice breeze and beautiful blue sky. Here are training camp the staff takes excellent care of the guests. Free sun block and water is provided, either bring your own bottle to refill or pick up a free bottle courtesy of Citizen's Energy Group. Training camp is an entertainment bargain. Parking is only $10 and camp is $5 admission. Food and drinks available, and plenty of activities for kids. Bring the family and enjoy.

As someone new to the Westfield area, I thought this was pretty cool and kind of surprising. Although I'm not really into sports unless I'm feeling 22-but have visited the campus a couple times now for various reasons like the Shipshewana Flea Market, "Whale of a Sale" (a large, upscale children's consignment event) and most recently "Winter Fest" presented by Westfield Youth Sports and "Brought to you by Birdies," the mini golf place and bar/restaurant in Westfield. Winter Fest was a fun and free event for locals inside the campus to promote sports enrichment in the community. Westfield residents who signed up received tickets for $15 worth of food (per person) at the cafeteria. This was quite generous of them! Chik-fil-A was also there with a booth giving out merch and gift cards for meals. The cafeteria and adult bar area are well maintained, shiny and new. The indoor field is clean and beautiful. Staff is friendly and helpful. There were vendors offering to match donations for youth sports fundraisers and local businesses advertising their products. They had tons of inflatables--even one for adults too. It was a great experience and I look forward to attending other events at Grand Park. I found out after Winter Fest that there had also been a Health and Wellness expo that same day and wished I had known about it sooner with companies like Pure Barre being there. Next year, I'll be keeping an eye out for that event and others like it.
