This is a great church! I'm not one to get too involved in organized activities, but these people…read moretruly make it easy. Going to events alone is never uncomfortable and I'm never annoyed by people being overly friendly either. There is truly something for everyone, from traditional services to the contemporary 707 service Sunday nights (love the music there!). There are also events/groups to get involved in too. Good people, good teachings (they keep it basic) good church.

Which sounds great. But if someone in your family receives a mental health diagnosis and you go to any of the pastors for help or prayer, they will essentially shun you or faze you out. All of those "connections" you have made, and any monetary contributions you give to the church won't matter because in their eyes, they have to protect their "brand". Your "friends" won't view you the same once this information get's out. There isn't support for this situation in CVC church. My family had to learn the hard way. It caused a lot of hurt. This church runs on how you present yourself and your family as well as how other people that attend this church perceive you. The church doesn't want acknowledge this type of situation. They want to avoid anything that may seem heavy or messy to them. This church thrives on fitting the mold. The "perfect" families, attendance, opportunities to get involved. This is intentional. My family, they are good people, who did everything "right" in the churches eyes, until they came for help. I wouldn't wish any of what we went through on someone else. I've kept quiet for a long time on this topic. I just feel that it is important for people to understand what we didn't.

I visited the Word Church, a predominately black church, for the first time in December 2023 with…read moretwo new friends, Abigail and Owami. I had a great experience so I wouldn't mind visiting again but I already currently go to another church. I believe we arrived for a 11am or 11:30am service. As we walked in, plenty of church volunteers or staff members greeted us. There were greeters in the sanctuary as well guiding people to seats. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. CHURCH TIME -- Praise and worship had already begun when we entered. It lasted for approximately 25-30 mins and it was a fun time. The music was upbeat and a choir sang along too. After workship time, the head pastor delivered a message. Since I am writing this message in June 2024, I can't remember what the message was about but I remember him mentioning some points about using discernment when finding a potential partner (husband or wife). He was enthusiastic and stern in his message. There were lots of laughing in church and everyone, including myself, was happy while in church. Service ended with a prayer and then we were all dismissed. After service, my new acquaintance, Abby, who attends this church, showed us around the building. There is a meeting or activity room upstairs and downstairs, in the main lobby, there is a small bookstore. If you are looking to join a new church (membership) or just visit then stop on by to the Word Church to see if it's for you. You will leave having learned something. I had a great time. **** GOAL of 150 reviews in 2024 - 45/150 total reviews in 2024 - 695 total overall Yelp reviews - Reviewed on 25 June 2024

This review is for their Friday Fish Fry only…read more Bring cash or check. If you don't have either you'll need to run across the street into Rite Aide to use their ATM. Come early because the parking lot will be full by 5:30. Everyone working/volunteering here is pleasant. They do the best they can to help you and are just really appreciative you're there supporting their fish fry. For $14 you can do dine-in all you can eat. I went with the $11 take-out option. For take-out you get 2 pieces of fish, 3 pierogies, french fries, one side dish, coleslaw, applesauce, roll and butter. For my side I picked mac & cheese and got an additional side of cabbage & noodles for $1 more. I also picked up a chocolate chip cookie for $1. Disclaimer: I ate this meal the day after I bought it so it might be better if you eat it in person fresh. My favorite thing? The pierogies! They are legit homemade and come in potato, sweet cheese, and sauerkraut. I was allowed to get one of each and they were all delicious! The fries are from a bag so not anything special but they will do if you want one. Coleslaw was good. Applesauce was standard. Roll was good. Fish was crusted and baked - standard. Cabbage & noodles were meh, I did not finish them. Mac & cheese was radioactive orange colored and I did not finish this either. Chocolate chip cookie was good. Not pictured because I ate it right away. All in all not a bad fish fry. Most things were standard tasting so they will appeal to the masses, but Flavortown this was not. However, I would for sure go to the all you can eat and just chow down on those pierogies!

If you don't feel like eating in you can get it TOGO and bring it home.
