The bar staff are friendly, up for a laugh and there to help. Drinks aren't expensive and there's a cash machine in the venue too. The food is yummy grub pub food - opportunity to get either 10, 20 or even 30 chicken wings!!! I chose the Nachos as per, with chilli, and they were nommylicious. A balcony on the first floor, that leads down to the outside decking area with garden benches and nice pot plants for those summer evenings.

Approaching we nearly turned around. Slightly out of the main shopping area this place looked like a dodgy local boozer with hanging baskets. Getting closer I spotted the dazzling lights of a disco ball and I knew we were in the right place. This place is awesome. Pool table, check. Clean, check. Good selection of booze, including a non-alcoholic beer for the Mrs, check. Cheesey tunes, check. Fabulous and friendly staff, check. Lesbians, check. The food is superb and the menu changes regularly to reflect in-season foods. In addition to the regular menu they have daily specials. The service is also excellent. The waiting staff are really friendly and always happy to recommend a particular dish or arrange for something to be cooked to order i.e. pepper steak, no pepper! I highly recommend this for a reasonably priced, low-key dinner. It's in the middle of nowhere, but worth missing out a few glasses of wine with your meal in order to be the designated driver. Reserve ahead, especially on a Sunday afternoon when it's packed to bursting with people enjoying their roast dinner.

A stroll from Southend Central Station (C2C), a close walk to South East Essex College and an even closer walk to Essex University(Southend). Above the pub sits a very popular 80's club called Relflex. Suiting people of a certain age, ok me! O'Neills is what it is, my Irish friends would not be seen in there, they have visited once and never returned, but having said that us Anglo's enjoy being fed a theme and this is one of its kind. The food is ok, the beer is professionally delivered and I have never had a reason ever to be really annoyed with this bar, not that I am critical or anything!!! Having been trapped in numerous conferences and lectures within the educational neighhbours, O'Neills has often provided visual stimulant to exit the boredom, and it is amazing how the most ugly outside sitting arrangement can suddenly look very appealing. They don't have music, but do have screens for the football. Even when the football is on, the crowd is pleasant and there is no animosity. They also do food, but I've never eaten here. Other people's food has always looked perfectly nice when it passes me by on the way to another table though. Even though it could be classed as a pub restaurant, I have never taken my children there as it definitely feels like more of a pub than a restaurant. This is definitely the place to come if you want to drink in a pleasnt, unpretentious venue where you can chat with your friends without having to shout above thumping music.

Service was good throughout, despite it being really busy (this on a weekday lunchtime in Summer). I'd recommend booking for the Sunday roasts! Paglesham East End (around 10 miles North of Southend-on-Sea) is one of those impossibly lovely Essex villages right on the marshy wetlands that charactise the coast between Southend-on-Sea and Burnham-on-Crouch.
