The Marquis de Breteuil came to greet us on our tour and shared some memories of his American grandmother. The gardens are beautiful and we heard so many birds singing. We brought a picnic and spent the day walking around the estate. In all honesty, this was such a better experience than Versailles, which even on a slow day is overwhelming in terms of crowds. I recommend exploring small estates like this where you can take a tour with someone who answers questions and is not rushed. The price for entry at Chateau de Breteuil was very reasonable and parks no was free.
