If you can't find an in network dentist I strongly suggest that you do not do business with Cigna Dental. They covered virtually nothing of an $840 bill that included initial visit, cleaning and X-rays. The periodontal work was $500 and they covered $12. Even cancelling the policy was a trial (although the customer service agent was very nice.) Our new dental group has a 'membership plan.' It is a little more expensive than Cigna but it would have covered our services in full. I have a feeling that dental groups are tired of dealing with the insurance so they are providing their own plans. Better coverage for patients, less headaches for the office. Definitely suggest asking when looking for a new dentist. read more

My Union has our dental w Cigna - My dentist submitted a claim for work to be done March 26. Waited 30 day & said they needed more info - which was sent the same day. Called back in May - still working on claim. Called in June - said they needed more info (whole mouth Xray) which was sent in May. Called today - June 29 & they asked for the whole mouth Xray again. My husband and I had Cigna dental for over a year, and we both needed fillings, cleanings and my husband needed a root canal. Cigna did not cover what they claimed, it felt like we didn't have insurance. My fillings were $428 each, with Cigna they only covered $120 for one tooth and only $19 for the second tooth! We ended up paying a lot out of pocket. I had a root scaling done and my dentist charged $900 for my entire mouth, well Cigna says they cover 50% for one quadrant, but they actually didn't because I still ended up paying $650 for the procedure. My husband had to drive 2 hours for his root canal because in our area Cigna only had one endotontist?? We dropped cigna all together recently and switched insurance. Hoping this other insurance is better, my first appointment with this new insurance is next week. read more

Stay clear of Cigna if you can. I had Met Life dental and BCBS Dental both were much better. The in network dentists in my area are low quality dentist in a box dentists. The reason for this is Cigna's negotiated rates are so low no good dentist will sign up. If you go out of network the amount Cigna will pay is very low. Save yourself some grief and don't buy this insurance. It is total garbage. I have had Cigna Dental since 2024 at a cost of almost $1200 a year. It was for me and my 2 sons. We had only needed it for cleanings and exams until this year. One son had a small cavity and the other required a crown due to a badly cracked tooth. According to the policy the cavity is covered at 80/20. They only covered $18 of the approved $161 cost because they now claim ONLY Amalgam is covered when the composite material is specifically listed as covered in the policy. Likewise the crown is also listed as a covered item but they originally claimed they only pay for temporary crowns and now upon review they have denied the entire claim. Their claims are processed offshore by clearly poorly trained people where english is not the native language. They don't understand the or have a financial incentive to deny claims or downgrade them for lower cost. It is total garbage and useless. Stay away! read more

They sent a reimbursement check to my dentist, who does not accept insurance, instead of me. It took me 6 hrs on the phone and they resent the check to my dentist. My dentist co-signed the check and gave it to me. I called to see if the check was still good and they said yes. I deposited it and it bounced. I wrote them a letter explaining that I now understand why my dentist doesn't accept insurance and the FINALLY sent me the check. In addition, they should be embarassed to call what they pay "INSURANCE". Their coverage STINKS. This rating system doesn't allow for negative stars.. needs to be fixed. read more

Cigna is the worst! They take weeks or more to review approval requests. I broke a tooth, and the dentist told me that if I don't get preapproval first, they will likely decline to pay their part of a $2500 procedure that is necessary. So now I wait with a broken tooth for approval. I called customer service to try and get them to expedite it, but the agent said no. I asked if I could speak to someone else, and she just kept repeating her rehearsed line that they do not expedite. Like everyone here, I had a terrible experience with this lousy company. There is no procedure to cancel the insurance. I emailed; I got a response that they'd get back to me. They didn't. I mailed a letter. They ignored it. I called. They passed me back and forth between two people who barely spoke English who both insisted I needed to talk to the other person, and then they hung up on me. I sent a certified letter. Finally they acknowledged I existed. They called me, told me they had no record of any phone calls, emails OR letters from me. Uh, then how did you know to call me? Magic? They put me on hold for an hour in 10 minute increments. I still don't know if it's cancelled, but I'd rather close my bank account and live in a bunker than ever deal with them again. The Cigna Billing department employees are based in the Philippines and barely speak English. They are complete morons. If they are quoting company policy correctly ... and I wonder about that ... then Cigna is the only major company in the world which will not allow customers to change the date that automatic payments are made via credit card. I'm very flexible, I could live with either an earlier date or later date, but their Philippine Billing representatives claim that automatic payments via credit card for all customers can only be made on the 5th of the month. unfair. cheated me out of at least $800 in orthodontic reimbursement. I paid $6000 upfront to an orthodontist for braces. a couple of months into the procedure (takes a year to do braces), my employment and thus my dental insurance ended. But I had already paid the full price for the year and Cigna refused to pay its share saying my insurance had ended. But it ended AFTER I had already paid the full $6000. I appealed. I started my wife's and I policy 2 months ago, they have billed me for each month and yet I still could not register online to activate the account. I have called twice in the first month and each time they said I needed to be patient and wait for activation. My dentist could not find us in the system. My plan is so bad that I after I pay a dentist the cash price, they send me an additional bill because I am covered my Cigna. What? Yes, I would be better off if I had no insurance. I was treated very poorly on our call. Cigna did not provide me with any answers. I was paying for a coverage plan, but when I looked on THEIR website, it said I did not have any coverage. This happened for 3 months. Most Cigna Dental customer service representatives are poorly trained and dishonest at times. They cannot answer or resolve any issues beyond the most basic ones, you will get different responses depending who you speak with. To top that, they gave me an email address to mail my documents for the reimbursement, and later I was told by another representative that it was a bogus email address! If I could rate this company ZERO stars, I would. I had changed to Cigna because my dentist decided not to take Delta Dental. Last year, Cigna told me that the plan I had was going to be discontinued. So I went online and chose another plan and thought I had paid for the new plan. Because I pay my monthly bills via auto-payment, I don't usually check to see whether I've paid or not. To my surprise, seven months later, my dentist says that my Cigna coverage ended. So I called the Cigna customer service number. We had a major charge in 2023 for my daughter's TMJ for an out of network provider. We knew coverage would be limited but any recovery of the $7,000 would be helpful. We discovered the dentist hadn't submitted the charge on our behalf. By the time we submitted it, they denied it. Says that out of network claims have a 1 year limit, unlike in network claims, which aren't limited. We submitted it just under 13 months after the service was rendered. So, let's get this straight. Terrible service, I spent a whole year back and forth on the phone regarding a dental claim for a procedure we paid out of pocket but were supposed to be paid back for. First, it was denied. Then when we proved they told us by phone before the procedure it would be covered they finally agreed to pay, but kept sending us faulty checks, or sent checks to the wrong address (old address that we repeatedly asked them to change in the system, the dentist's office instead of directly to us, etc.). Refused to issue the check in any other way. Still ahve yet to see a dime from them. Overall terrible company that tries to avoid paying what they owe to their customers. beware! read more
