It's a great landmark in downtown Cincinnati and definitely worth checking out if you're exploring the area. A nice place to take a quick break, snap a few photos, and enjoy the park.

This statue of President James A. Garfield (20th POTUS, March to September 1881) stands in…read moreCincinnati's Piatt Park. An Ohio native, he served as a general in the Civil War and then nine terms in the US House of Representatives. He was the only sitting member of the House to be elected President. Garfield opposed the Confederate secession and was a major general in the Union Army, fighting in the battles of Middle Creek, Shiloh and Chickamauga. After taking office in March, he was shot in July 1881 but actually died two months later of the infection caused by the doctor's poor sanitation methods. I won't mention the assassinator's name. The oversize bronze statue shows Garfield wearing a knee length coat. He stands with his right foot forward and a stack of papers in his right hand with his left hand extended but palm down. It is by artist Charles Henry Niehaus and was unveiled in 1885. [Review 20501 overall - 228 in Ohio - 1482 of 2023.]

Absolutely beautiful mural on the corner of Walnut and 5th St. depicting Niel Armstrong taking a…read morephotograph of Earth with the famous silhouette of Elliot from the movie E.T. on his bike flying across it. Neil Armstrong and his camera are painted in black and white but the rest of it is an explosion of color. It certainly catches your attention while you're walking or driving down the street and I love it. A few fun facts... Niel Armstrong is from Ohio and he was also a professor of aeronautics at the University of Cincinnati. The mural was created by a Brazilian street artist named Eduardo Kobra who painted it right after doing a huge mural in Rio for the 2016 Olympics. It's located on the giant Fifth Third Bank headquarters building, which is who funded it. Cincinnati is known for its many murals and this one definitely stands out for its vibrant colors and downtown location. If you ever get the chance to explore, I highly suggest doing a mural tour and checking this one out.

This mural is the work of Brazilian street artist Eduardo Kobra, who is know for his larger than life colorful murals. He painted it in 2016. The mural takes up the entire side of the building, covering 7,600 square feet. The mural depicts Armstrong, an Ohio native, behind a camera. Armstrong's face is in black and white, while everything else is rainbow. I love the contrast they make. You will see a small 3D image of Earth in the upper right corner. Nice touch! If you look closely, you will see, a silhouette of Elliot and his floating bike from the Steven Spielberg hit movie, E.T. Spielberg happens to also be an Ohio native. Construction in the area has really limited metered street parking to get a closer look of this mural. There is still some in a reasonable waking distance. I parked about a quarter mile away. There are also commercial garages and lots you can park in, but they are pretty pricy. I love this mural and Kobra is one of my favorite artists. It is definitely worth a peak and will surely grab your attention. Anyway, as with most murals that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a very long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. You may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other murals in the area or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip. I just did a mural tour. I enjoyed stopping by and seeing how this mural adds personality and creativity to downtown Covington. It's colorful, memorable, and a perfect example of how public art can turn an ordinary building into something that makes people smile. A must-see quick stop if you're exploring Covington and enjoy unique murals, movies, and hidden gems around the city.

When I was nearby Covington visiting the Newport aquarium and seen that they had this mural I had to stop in and see this. Loved the movie little shop of horrors (1986 version) growing up. The mural is well done and boasts the classic "Feed me" demands of the carnivorous Venus fly trap. The mural brought back heart nostalgia for me. I could practically here Levi Stubbs voice yelling out "feed me Seymour!" When visiting. Overall very fun and cool public art mural. I always enjoy checking out towns murals and this is a fun one for sure and one of my favorites I've seen.

He is major leauge baseball all time hit leader and he captured the game with his relentless approach and hustle as the statue here depicts him sliding into a base. He was nicknamed Charlie hustle for reasons like this statue portray. Due to gambling rules Pete rose is still banned from being in the mlb hall of fame. However his old team still found ways to honor him like this statue. The mans accolades include being baseballs all time hit leader, 17 time all star and 3 time World Series champion. Truly deserving of this honor and much more. It's time baseball allow the hit king into the hall of fame. Several players have been forgiven for doing much worse things then gambling.

He 10 time all star, 5 time gold glove winner and won 2 mvps and World Series a piece. Overall cool honor for a man with a laundry list of superlatives. Awesome to see the reds honor so many players with statues from that golden area of the franchise.

This is a tall mural that is part of Mural Works program by ArtWorks. It was painted by Tim…read moreParsley with the assistance of his understudy Jarrett Jamison and others artist from ArtWorks. They painted they piece in 2009, but you could not tell because it is in such great shape. You will find it on the side of Cincinnati Temporary Labor Inc, overlooking a parking lot. It depicts, Cincinnati's beloved Jim Tarbell who is paying tribute to "Peanut Jim" Shelton. Shelton is another popular a Cincinnati figure who sold peanuts on the street, at Crosley Field, and at Riverfront Stadium, while always in his signature coat and tails with a stovepipe hat. Talk about fancy service. Tarbell was so famous that he was given has been given the title, "Mr. Cincinnati" for life. by mayoral proclamation. The mural is in awesome shape and is very detailed. It almost looks like a photo. I love how Tarbell's image contrasts perfectly with the bright red background. being that it is in a parking lot, some vehicles may obstruct the lower portion of the mural. However, it is not much down there to obstruct outside of the red background. There is some in metered street parking in a reasonable waking distance. Taking time to explore my new area, yesterday it was Bellevue's turn. It's like going back 50 years…read morein time when "downtown" was the place to be...you know, when you're alone is life is making you lonely... Very walkable and plenty of parking. Lots of cute little restaurants and bars. But Monday isn't the best time to go because many little places were closed. I'll go back on First Friday, which is supposed to be a blast. I walked all the way to Dayton...Kentucky that is. That's a story for another day. People are friendly in this town - at least in the stores that are open on Monday. I did kinda laugh when I saw the sign for the Beach Park. Just the thought of a beach on this river. Don't get me wrong...I love the river and the river traffic. But I wouldn't put my little toe in that water. Next time I head down think I'll take the levy...love walking on the levy. At least the Newport levy. I'll report back on Bellevue levy.

FACT: Bellevue is super underrated. There are so many great charming NKY neighborhoods and Bellevue…read moreis definitely towards the top of that list. There are so many small businesses that make this part of town such a great place to visit. Among the coffee shops and restaurants, visiting Bellevue Beach park is also a great time to be had. It's peaceful and serene with lots of great river views. If you're looking for a spot to grab coffee or lunch, make it a point to start checking out some of these businesses. Besides, who can pass up a chance to stop by The Party Source (enormous booze outlet) while you're in this neck of the woods. If you haven't taken the time to visit and explore Bellevue, make sure you do - it's such a charming part of greater Cincy.

The city or rabbit hash is a small historic town located in Kentucky off the Ohio river a little…read morebit outside of Florence Kentucky and sits across the river from rising sun, Indiana. The town as of the most recent census has a population of 300 and is known for its string of canine mayors. Which is apparent on our visit to This town as the town was crawling with older country dogs who walked in and out of the business in town at will and was friendly with everyone. My family and some family friends was headed back to Lousiville from the Newport aquarium in northern Kentucky when realized rabbit hash wasn't too far off the path so we made the stop in. The original allure for us was a popular general store that the town is known for called rabbit hash general store. So you pull into town and it sits beautifully off the Ohio river and the whole town kinda sits on what I'd describe as residential neighborhood court that is filled with classic and rustic looking country businesses. The classic general store sits at the forefront it seems and is surrounded by some outdoor seating, a Mexican food stand setup called Chef Hip E's Cocina. There is also an art place, an iron works place, an air bnb called old hacienda, a early settlers memorial, a small museum and access down to the river. All the businesses proudly boast decor that's country river living and the unique name of rabbit hash. The town was lovely and everyone here was so friendly and kind. My kids loved the mayors or dogs that walked the whole town and played with them a bunch. Very cool and unique place that has a fun vibe with beautiful views of the Ohio river. On our little pit stop here we didn't carve out much time to spend here. However after checking this historic city out, we have plans to come back. The air bnb seems like a cool option to check out the town and it's surrounding areas more. So that may be our next small getaway.
