Saturday night late dinner at Cinco De Mayo. We love chips and salsa and the salsa did not disappoint. Although not as chunky as I prefer, my fiancé loved it. Chips were warm and thicker than typical restaurants. Not excessively salty either. We ordered the guacamole and it was a bit bland. Still good, but not too 5 guacamole in this area. I had the California burrito and she had a chicken quesadilla. Both were very good. My burrito was huge. I didn't even finish it all. Portion sizes are large and filling. In fact we will probably be back because of how close it is to our house, but the flavor on this trip just want there. We also ordered it to go, which may have affected the flavor? I ordered the Chile relleno/Enchilada meal and a taco on side and my wife got the Pollo Fundido? Something I've never seen on any Mexican restaurant menu or taco shop menu. It's basically Grilled chicken breast with grilled onions, peppers and tomatoes on a bed of rice and covered with cheese sauce. Yes, I tried it and yes, it was the best thing we ordered! The chili relleno/enchiladas meal was ok, but really lacked flavor. Specifically salt and a little heat. The enchilada was my favorite of the two and next time I'll probably just get a enchilada and add hot sauce! The taco, again lacked flavor. Honestly, just a little salt and or heat and this would have been a solid beef taco. The sides outshined the meal which means, I'm all in on a bean and cheese burrito during my next visit. My husband and I love Cinco De Mayo! Every time we go there this place is packed, and I am always nervous there will be a wait, but we actually have always been seated right away!! I love that they have daily drink specials (I always get a house margarita). The servings are huge so I always have leftovers to take home, and the chips and salsa is a bonus! Tip- get the queso!!!! The service is good, although it can get really loud in there so sometimes it is hard to hear the waiter. AND THE BEST PART, we are always shocked with how cheap the bill is at the end of dinner! We usually have a coupon that we get in the mail, but even without that, cinco de mayo has great prices for the amount of food you get. Definitely recommend!! read more

The Nachos Al Carbon is hands down the best Mexican food I've ever eaten in my life! This place doesn't look like much but it has been busy every time we went by one our little vacation up here. Salsa here was pure tomato paste and spicy salsa was all spice. Fajitas came in a good size portion but were very bland. We ended up having to drench the meat in lime and salsa to taste anything We also ordered a michelada, it also lacked flavor but was a very good size! The margaritas were very sweet and came in a small margarita glasses that was closer to a martini glass size. Prices for everything were average. What we got (a chicken burrito) was all dark meat, cheapest meat for a premium price...... $13.25 no onions, no lettuce, no peppers, no tomatoes, just bare chicken and a flour tortilla. At least the menu should state "all dark meat". Over-priced. Draft beer mug @ $7, the absolute cheapest kind of beer one can buy. $7 is way too much....then add tax and tip, it adds up to about $9..... that is definitely overpriced. Best Mexican restaurant in MJ! Disclaimer: This is NOT the CDM in the little shopping complex by the Dunkin Donuts/Little Caesar's. That is the one in Old Hickory. This is the CDM north off of 70 behind the new Speedway gas station further into MJ. If you want great food, great drinks, and a good place to hang out, this is it. We have been many times and haven't had a bad experience yet. The salsa is always on point and usually quite spicy (which we like). The cheese dip is ok, and usually we end up pouring some of it onto our dishes. Servers are nice, however, when it gets busy, they can get a little stretched thin, but if you have another margarita, you'll never notice. Great place, and they will get our business again and again if they continue their current operations. (Bathrooms could use a little work though.) read more

I'm not sure why this doesn't have a higher rating - our experience couldn't have been better. We've been here several times in the past six years - we stop in any time we're in the area - and have never been disappointed. Today, we stopped for a late lunch and I had the best pollo fundido I've eaten in the lower 48. The chicken was tender, juicy and lightly browned, the peppers and tomatoes were tender and slightly charred, the onions just barely caramelized. All this yumminess was placed atop moist and tasty rice, then cheese sauce topped it off. Hubby had the lunch chicken chimichenga with beans. There was no question that the chicken was fresly cooked, not canned (which we have had in a few other places) and it was beautifully deep fried. And the salsa? So fresh and tasty with plenty of fresh cilantro and a bit of heat! All-in-all, it was a very tasty and pleasant lunch. read more

The food is good, once you finally get it! We walked in to eat with a party of three and were told the wait would be 10 minutes. Being understanding of the short staffing issue, we were perfectly fine waiting. However, once moved to the side with multiple other parties waiting, the hostess began to sit people out of order. People that had just walked In with parties of 3 were being sat before those that had been waiting for nearly 20 minutes at that time. Several parties were becoming highly frustrated, and after the manager was notified of what was going on we were finally sat down. Once sat, we waited another 10 minutes for someone to come and take our drink order and then another 5-10 minutes for chips. The staffing issue is a problem. However, when running a restaurant it still needs to be managed orderly and people need to be sat and tended to based upon their arrival. We downloaded it off the web, didn't receive it in the mail. We said, Ok, we'll pay for our drinks and leave. The manager shows up, tries a long winded explanation of why they didn't take these coupons, then said "just this once, we'll take it" I REALLY DON'T CARE WHY THEY WOULD REFUSE IT. The waitress should not have tried to explain this, she should have summoned the manager. But, we said, ok we'll stay. List of further complaints: Both our plates were cold, I had to send mine back. My wife's food was luke warm. When they brought it back, they had kept my fork. My wife was supposed to have a taco with her plate, I asked the waitress to bring a menu. She brought one and I asked her what the combo should have, to read it to me. Without reading it, she said it should have a taco, so she KNEW what was wrong. I said I should get flour torts with my meal, they later brought them and the taco. The taco was greasy, without any seasoning and the shell was half burnt. Never again......I'm not on social media but other folks will hear from me first hand. We are regulars here and everything and everyone has always been amazing. The drink specials are phenomenal and the staff is the most friendly and personable around. Tonight I went out of my comfort zone and got the Sopa de Pollo and let me tell you - it was AMAZING! So clean! Well first things first, the food was not good. I got steak tacos and the steak tasted like how dog food smells. I told our waitress, who was pretty rude already, that I didn't like the tacos and my sister who got a steak burrito also didn't like the steak. So the manager, instead of coming to our table, yells across the dining section, "Who doesn't like their food?!" And I said that I didn't because I thought the steak tasted funny. He then continued to raise his voice about how I'm the only one who doesn't like the steak and everybody else eats it and then stormed off. I didn't get to say anything except, "Okay, and that's fine. I don't like it," while another manager just stood by and stared us down. It was handled very poorly and everyone in there is very rude.
