Ideal casual, authentic Mexican restaurant in the heart of downtown Dover. I personally love that it's close enough for me to walk there from home. But if you don't live that close, it's still worth the trip, in my opinion. The waitstaff is so friendly and fun. I asked for hot sauce and he brought me a sampling of 3 different kinds after chatting about what level of heat I prefer. The meat is always well-seasoned and perfectly prepared, whether you order a salad, enchiladas, quesadilla, etc. The rice and beans are also well-seasoned and flavorful. Honestly, everything is tasty. I once asked for my tacos to come in romaine lettuce wraps instead of tortillas because I was trying to cut carbs. They happily accommodated my request, but not before teasing me about how good corn tortillas are for me. Service is quick and the atmosphere is appropriately casual and light-hearted. My only complaint would be that the salsa that comes with the tortilla chips isn't nearly spicy enough. But I suppose they make it for the average gringo palette. read more

Take your taste buds to Mexico by going to Cinco De Mayo. Chips and salsa are brought to the table with drinks. The salsa was a bit too mild for me, but I believe spicier salsa is available upon request. I ordered the veggie fajitas, and my date ordered the shrimp and scallop fajitas. The portions were a bit overwhelming, but you definitely get your money's worth (expect leftovers). Delicious food. Visited Cinco de Mayo tonight after numerous great visits and expected the same this evening. First off, I order an appetizer that I would like to enjoy before my entree comes out, (yes I understand this type of food can come out quick) but when I mentioned the app she said she forgot about it and that it would be out. after ordering 1 entree that ended up coming out exactly as described I ordered another that came with things that were not described on the menu so this made me mad but not enough to complain about but I am because it just adds to the other things. I ask the waitress how many tacos come with the kids meal, I am told TWO! one comes out and I am ok with buying another taco separately but am then told they don't come separately and I have to order the entire meal. so I'm ok with it and I'm fine whatever. then I ordered a drink that didn't come out before she gave me the check for the evening then when I mentioned she happened to forget that too! this set me off so I said forget it.(. I'm not intoxicated I had no drinks prior to entering this place and spent about 30 minutes here entirely). anyways I'm furious at this point and goto the manager and mentioned all of the mistakes that my "new" waitress made tonight and he didn't care and blamed me for not reading the menu. (I did read the menu but it was not specific that's why I asked questions before ordering I the first place like how many tacos came with kids meal). My wife and I ate here last week and this was hands down the worst Mexican food I have ever tasted. The burrito was literally watery and flavorless. Had the combo platter for an appetizer and it was cold. If you choose to eat here I wish you the best of luck getting your moneys worth. read more

We were there on Saturday 8/18/18 at around 6pm. When we arrived, the place was empty. This concerned us a bit, but our worries were unfounded! The crowds showed up around 7pm. Our Margaritas were wonderful!! Chips & Salsa were also VERY good. I had Chicken Fajita Quesadilla and hubby had Shrimp Diablo! Both were very good, but the plating wasn't very pretty. Good thing the food was fabulous!! We wanted to try their Tres Leches for dessert. After ordering and waiting about 10 mins, our waitress came back to tell us they didn't have any Tres Leches! My friend and I went in for dinner tonight after being unable to decide where we wanted to eat. We chose this restaurant and hoped for the best. We were pleasantly surprised!!! The chips and salsa were delicious! We decided to order the table-side guacamole, which was phenomenal. For dinner, we each got fajitas with a variety of meat - chicken, steak, pork, and shrimp. The ingredients were fresh and well-seasoned with an authentic Mexican taste. The churros were to die for!!! The staff was friendly and light-hearted, making interactions enjoyable. To start, the salsa was most likely Ragu pasta sauce. I asked if they had any other salsa or some spicy salsa and I'm pretty sure they added hot sauce to the Ragu. The margaritas had no taste of alcohol. The servers didn't seem to know the menu at all. And the food was less than mediocre. We were so excited when we saw a Mexican Restaurant was opening in town. We went a few weeks after it opened and were let down by both the margaritas and food we ordered. The margaritas were overpriced and tasted mostly of an off the shelf sour mix. I ordered the Veggie Quesadilla that said it had lots of yummy veggies in it. I was delivered a plate that had two soggy tortillas and in the middle about a pound of sautéed onions and few sautéed peppers. Not only the were there none of the other vegetables the menu promised, but this quesadilla was not even possible to eat. It was a sloppy mess. If you want great Mexican food in the Seacoast area, this is the place for you. Great food and great service. We had the Cinco's Special for Two and it was more than enough food. Everything on the two platters was awesome. We also had a side of their signature hot sauce which had incredible flavor and just enough spice to make it extra tasty. Our waitress was very attentive and one of the owners stopped by our table to thank us for coming by. We got there later on a Wednesday night and the place was busy. Not packed, but busy, with a few open tables so we didn't have to wait to be seated. I was surprised when I got the check as it wasn't nearly as expensive as I had thought. Ate at Cinco de Mayo about a month ago. Waitress was excellent. Beer was good, Food was extremely disappointing. Had chicken enchiladas. Had tiny amount of chicken that looked like water had been added to it and then reheated. Girlfriend had pork dish (can't remember exact name of it) Pork was beyond dry. Quite flavorless. I honestly feel sorry for customers that actually think that this is authentic Mexican food. It is light years from authentic Mexican food. Not a fan. Cartellis (used to be in this location) was so much better of a restaurant. Once it closed we decided to give this place a shot. Margaritas were not good at all. So bad we tried to get a replacement and it was just as bad. Food presentation was bad, didn't look appetizing at all. They just slapped a few chimichangas and burritos on a bare plate and they did not look good. I got fish tacos and the fish was badly overcooked and totally dry. Borderline inedible. Burrito and chimichangas were also bad and gave the impression they were not prepared for our order. Service wasn't great either the waitress we had didn't know any of their beers on tap and had to go back and check twice when I asked for something I knew they had. I could see the taps from my seat. Only reason I give 2 stars is because the guacamole they make right in front of you is fantastic. Guy who made this for us (I think he was the owner) clearly cared about our experience and was very friendly. Unfortunately I didn't get that vibe from any other aspect of the restaurant. I recently visited cinco de mayo with a friend who lives in the dover area. We were welcomed by friendly staff and moment we walked in we treated like family as if they had known us forever. We ordered the fresh tableside quacamole as an appetizer and it is by far, the best quacamole we had ever had! For dinner we order chicken chimicangas that were great and my friend got steak tacos. This restaurant is a gem in all aspects! As a native Texan who's only been in New England for a year, it was so refreshing to find this wonderful place. From the ambience to the service to delicious food, Cinco de Mayo reminds me of many favorite restaurants back home. Is this a gourmet place? No so "presentation" isn't going to look like something coming out of a Ramsey kitchen and that's not why you go to casual fun places like this. You come here to experience a real Mexican restaurant like we have in the southwest complete with outstanding service. We have tried at least half the menu and can say we have yet to be disappointed. It's all so good and so authentic, I can confidently recommend everything on the menu. Every time we go to Cinco de Mayo, it feels like I'm going home for an hour or two. Stop by and try it out. Excellent! The best Mexican that we have found on the seacoast. They have an extensive menu and everything that we have had has been delicious and fresh, not the "canned" Mexican that you find at other area restaurants. Meals are also very well presented and the staff is both friendly and very attentive. I had the San Jose Burrito this evening, which has grilled chicken, chorizo, rice and beans. It was excellent, it is so nice to have a Mexican restaurant locally that serves authentic Mexican meals. Chorizo (Mexican sausage) is not something that you will find on many other restaurant menus. My wife is a vegetarian and she has been very impressed with both the veggie fajitas and the veggie quesadillas, as well as their selection of margaritas. If you enjoy Mexican, definitely put them on your list to try, you will not be disappointed. read more

I think I'm the only person not impressed by this place. The margarita was mostly sour mix and triple sec, had to pay $14 to get a decent one. We went when they first opened, I hope they have improved. The time of poorly prepared Mexican food on a plate with lots of refrieds and some dry rice just isn't cutting it. No a la carte style ordering options ( ie I want two pork tacos and I beef burrito). It's sad when Margaritas is a better Mexican dining choice. The upside was a friendly staff. Stopped in for a late lunch while we were in the area. What a great discovery! The servers were incredibly cheerful, singing and chatting while offering great service. The food was fantastic -tableside guac was tasty with warm chips and was made with fun; shrimp quesadilla with rice and refried beans were all delicious. Loved the Latin music and the festive atmosphere, great artistic barrel furniture . . . even had great theming in the restrooms with barrels made into a mirror, a trash can, and paper towel holder! We have Mexican Food every Friday. This place is very authentic! The chips were warm and the salsa actually had real fresh herbs. The food was amazing . I had the shrimp tacos with an extra side of refried beans. The shrimp was fresh and the corn tortillas were very flavorful. My family had the fajitas and a chicken burrito- all equally delicious. We have followed this family for years! They are the real deal. They cook from their heart and they are very experienced in customer service. Awesome addition to the Dover downtown. read more

Have to admit, we moved here from Southwest of the US and were very skeptical. We grew up on Mexican food and missed it here in the Seacoast. Cinco De Mayo delivers. We tried 3 different dishes and they all were superb. The Shrimp Diablo was amazing but so spicy it even made me sweat and we are used to spicy. My son had the chimichangas and loved them. The main staple of any Mexican meal are the rice and beans and both were superb. Also, having Negro Modelo on tap was a special treat. We would go back just for that!!
