We were looking for a place to cater our rehearsal dinner and had originally set our sights on a taco truck. Fast forward, and we find that having a taco truck for our event is actually out of our budget, so we started looking up taco places in Livermore. Enter Cinco TacoBar -- catering menu fully online, clear, and easy to order from (and reasonably priced!). We placed our order about a month in advance for 13 dozen tacos: 3 dozen beef brisket, 3 dozen pollo asada, 3 dozen al pastor, 3 dozen carne asada, and 1 dozen grilled veggie. We set our pickup day and time and paid for our order in full and then waited for the day to come. Our order was ready for pickup at the time that we needed, and the workers were so nice. They gave us cups -- like full on drink cups -- full of salsa. We loaded up all 13 of our trays into the car, and we headed back to our hotel to chow down. Y'all. Cinco TacoBar tacos are no joke. When we opened the trays, it was seriously just a huge mound of meat, veggies, and toppings with tortillas underneath. We expected every person to eat 3-4 tacos, but a lot of us were stuffed (quite literally) after just 2. They absolutely did not skimp on anything, and everyone had nothing but great things to say about the tacos. We'd definitely hit them up again if we're in the area and craving tacos! read more

This place needs to step it up. They are falling off big time. Today I had a burrito with chewy hard steak, watery pinto beans, and clumpy rice. I should have honestly walked out. The lady making my food pretended to not notice the clumps of rice or the watery beans. Then I go to the register where two ladies are talking. The one at the register is taking forever to pack up my food because she won't stop answering whatever questions the other lady who works there was asking in Spanish. There were only 3 people in front of us and it took about 4-5 minutes per person to place their order as they walked down the line. When I first entered Cinco TacoBar, I expected it to be more of a sit down place, but it was essentially a Chipotle style kitchen. The waitresses all seemed out of it when I visited here recently with my company. Barely a greeting when we walked in, we'd ask for specific things to go into our bowls/tacos and be greeted with a sigh every time we added something. The food itself was just okay, I had a carne asada taco and a brisket taco. Nothing to write home about and the salsa was just so-so. The Jamaica drink I had was great and so were the chips. Very fresh and just the perfect amount of crunch. The restrooms at this place were nice too and very clean which I could appreciate. My coworker took me here the first time because she highly recommended it and we were coming back from Brentwood, so this was on the way. The second time, I took my husband and I think he was pleasantly surprised. We got here 40 minutes before closing. Food: The taco portions are big (one taco really is good enough), but because the prices are reasonable, why not have two? If you do get full, they do have to-go containers. Free chips and salsa (the chips are good). Bar: The bar is separate from the restaurant, next to the exit. If you are purchasing alcohol, you have to go over there. I do not recommend this place to anyone! I absolutely love tacos and spicy food, so once my biking group recommended this place, I had to check it out. I decided to get lunch for my parents and I. I went in on a Wednesday around 12, and there was no line. The place is cute and functions like an assembly-line mirroring chipotle setup. The employees were very kind and helpful. For three people, we went with three Al pastor tacos and three carne asada tacos. With a side of rice and beans and one horchata. The cost was $43. Now I think that's a bit too pricy. I could have gone to a local taqueria, which would have been cheaper. But in today's economy, I can't complain. Now the food was okay. It's esthetically pleasing and looks great, but the flavor is lacking. Everyone raves about it, but I honestly didn't taste much. Both of the meats lacked flavor and were very cold. My parents live only 5 min from this place. The food shouldn't have gotten cold this quickly. Also, I love spicy food, and their so-called spicy salsa was not spicy at all. The food needs more spice and seasoning. Lastly, their horchata was a disgrace. I have had good horchata before, and this was not it. It was too thick and didn't have any cinnamon flavor. This is hands-down my favorite place to get a torta in the Bay Area. The tortas come on dutch crunch bread (which is insane!) and are completely customizable. I love the customization aspect of this place because I always feel like whenever I order tortas, or even tacos for that matter, they are always lacking a couple ingredients to really stand out to me. The chipotle mayo, and other non-traditional toppings, add the extra oomph that authentic Mexican restaurants don't have. Their papas locas with carne asada are 100% a must-try. Definitely not completely authentic, but the modern twist on traditional foods really excite the tastebuds. You leave the restaurant full and completely satisfied. Aside from the food, the decor is great/exciting and the seating is hip. I feel invigorated just being inside the restaurant, and I will say the bar adds an extra element that the other Cinco TacoBar in San Leandro lacks. This place was a top pick for tacos in the area. My coworkers and I came for lunch service was fast and we got there early enough before the crowd came in. I liked how you can see the workers making fresh tortillas and prepping the food. I had three tacos carne asada, carnitas and al pastor. Like subway you move on the the toppings bar to tell them wagt you want. They are generous with the toppings and salsa. You also get some fresh tortilla chips with your order which made my day. I also had some complentry cucumber water which they had two options of favored water which was very refreshing. There was also a bar which I would have ordered a drink if I didnt have to go back to work. My only complaint is the price is a bit high and I wish they would either double the taco tortillas or make them thicker. Our tacos were so loaded that they would fall apart along with the salsa making them rip. Overall I enjoyed my lunch with the various meats to choose from, the freshness of ingredients, cleanliness, and salsa variety. The best Al pastor! Loved it. I had 3 tacos, pastor, brisket combo, carnitas and all 3 were awesome, tender, flavorful. My daughter had the chicken and it wasn't bad but kind of boring. The churros were yummy although the chocolate dip sauce had a slightly weird taste, so I preferred without it but my daughter liked it. I loved the curros on their own. The tortillas were good but didn't stand out to me as special, the Al pastor did though. Enjoyed the chips and salsa as well. Great food and the staff was super nice though. My complaints are about the ordering line /process /space. Seems they can only cook a few tortillas at a time and since you stand to order and wait for it to cook to pick your filings, it did make for awkward waiting time. I felt like I was holding up the line but "I" wasn't. To be fair only one other family came in and was behind us in like and they were kind of pushy in our space to see the toppings so it made me feel pressured to be quick. Also the second staff member started to help them while the other was helping us, which would be great, but there isn't space for both of us to be looking at the toppings and also the tortilla cook space being small meant when we ordered for our second person, space was now getting used for the people behind us. It was just too hectic an ordering experience. Price also felt a little high because I don't like a lot toppings, just onions, and it's one price no matter what /if toppings you get, so $5 per taco is steep IMO. and the freshly pressed tortilla wasn't special enough, is rather they just had some cooked already. Also wish they would have a kids bean and cheese burrito option, I asked but they said they don't and it was $8 for just bean and cheese. And I'm sad to say, what once felt like a five-star kinda place slowly just became average at best. Idk, welcoming and cordial service makes for a long lasting impression, and not having any emotions tells me you hate the place. Anyways, to each his own, now onto the food: ~ Tacos ($3.95), I've had this with carnitas, al pastor, and pollo asado. I loved watching the staff press down on the tortilla, so you know they make their tacos fresh. Made to order! Their meats were good, until I decided to try the fish tacos for the first time. Unfortunately, the tortilla (made by the no-emotion lady) just tasted dry and ended up crumbling. It was annoying just eating it. The mango salsa was tasty, but with the fish being warm and the tortilla breaking up, I ended up hating these tacos. ~ Burritos ($10.95), I've had this with carne asada, and once with shrimp. Now if you want a safe bet. Get a burrito! This will really fill you up. ~ Tamales ($9.95), another safe bet in my opinion. I think this is my favorite thing on the entire menu. Steamed just right, and great tasting pork meat in the middle. Their tamales are delish! ~ Dutch Crunch Torta ($10.55), I just remember this also being messy. Messy that I don't even remember the taste of it. I don't think I hated it, I just wasn't a fan. At least I can say I tried it. ~ Waffle Cut Fries ($4.95), not sure how this is considered Mexican, but oh well. They were still crispy good cuts of potato. I'd get these again. As for now, I'd rather go to the other taqueria places in downtown Livermore. They aren't the greatest either, but I'd rather kill my cravings for Mexican food at the other guys then here.
