Even more importantly, there is coffee shop - not a great one but very handy when you're exhibiting and you cannot leave your stand for long! Remarkably as it's council run they even have a coffee loyalty card and there is array of hot and cold snacks and of course cakes and biscuits. I didn't choose to have the event there but I will definitely recommend it, particularly if you want to attract the general public which the library does anyway.

The galleries are quite interesting and there are plenty of contemporary art to catch up with there. Solihull Arts has Theatre, music, films, talks, literature, arts and all kind of entertainment events and workshops to attend to. I just love the fact we can check some art also in its cafe bar and the complex facilities are quite modern and easy to find. Solihull Arts Complex is on the Library Square, in the city centre. There is a car parking nearby it on Homer Road and it's just 5 minutes walking from the Solihull station.

So it really was a delight to have the opportunity to go back this week. I was lucky enough to win a ticket to see Mark Bruce's #Dracula on Thursday 16th October 14. Planned on taking a few pictures but the ususal rules applied re flash photography. Tucked inside the grandure of Birmingham Hippodrome shairing the same welcoming reception area and bar space the excitement before the show builds. When its time to take your seats you walk into a theatre that is inviting in the sense that actually do feel part of the performance because of the size of the studio. I decided to sit on the front row. Less than 5 minutes into the performance I began hiding my face in my scarf as Dracula emerged on stage looking hauntingly devilish under the darkness and very dim lighting. (I had to self talk myself into - this is a show Shaz, its not real hahaa) oh the power of the mind! I was gripped! The music, the choreography, the make up, the story line, the acting and the singing was wonderful. The scenes where the vampires feasted on the necks of their victim was really done well as 'fake' blood dripped from their mouths and chests and splashed all over the stage (front row bonus). The dancers/actors were all at arms length, I really felt part of the story. As mentioned above the studio is a lovely size, the access to the facilities of Birmingham Hippodrome and the link through to Dance Exchange makes this a unique establishment sited in the midst of the bustlin Hurst Street.

I did ballet for about 13 years, so, after 6 year break, I attend the improvers class. At £6 for 1 hr 15, which often runs over, it is very good value for money. The teacher Andrea is just amazing. She points out such simple little changes in my dancing that make a world of difference, and I have never done better pirouettes! There are also teenage, beginners and advanced classes, so anyone can give it a go. Above all, the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, so it is the perfect un-intimidating place to try something new!

These days they specialise in more cutting edge dance styles like Capoera and street dance. I am not sure if I have the energy or the time to study dance any more so I am not going to enroll on a course just yet. More recently my girlfriend decided that she would like some more lessons in Ballet, after studying it for some years as a child. I called the dance centre to help her in her ongoing enquires. There was no one on the other end of the phone when I called, and when I tried to call in person I was greeted by a locked door in what seemed to be a fairly dilapidated building. I never remember this place looking like it had closed down but I was assured that they have dance classes and put on music nights here. I am yet to come back, but from my past knowledge I remember enjoying coming for classes in this big old building. I hope in the future that they have some more money given to them so they can focus on bringing in the crowds like it used to.

Your typical hearty pub grub style menu. I just chose a starter - the chicken goujons which came with potato wedges and a really tasty spicy tomatoe-y dip. Was just what I needed! It was a rather pleasant Sunday afternoon when a bunch of 20 'Yelpers' descended upon a tent, in a…read morerather muddy carpark. It was also the day of the Bupa half-marathon. As such, many of the roads around Cannon Hill Park were blocked. I decided to avoid the traffic and walk the 2.5 miles from Harborne. After a couple of miner trespass issues, I found myself one of the first to arrive, and ashamedly felt rather smug at hearing of people's traffic woes. "Oktoberfest on 20th October* surely that's too late?" I hear you cry. Well, Brum's Oktoberfest have been running this event every weekend in a different city for the last month. I believe the Birmingham one is the end of their 'tour'. Entrance was free on Wednesday, £5 on Thursday, Friday and Sunday, and a whopping £10 on the Saturday. We (or rather Vicky O as CM) however, managed to blag some free tickets to the Sunday session. On entering we were greeted by buxom young women. It was later commented that their employment process probably included a series of questions involving 'hair colour' and 'cup size'. The tent housed long wooden tables with Bavarian blue and white diamond check print plastic tablecloths. The 'serving wenches' (I apologise if you feel I'm being sexist, but I'm trying to represent the sexist nature I felt in the organisation of the event) all had numbers on their backs. However in the VIP area, we served by a pleasant gentleman in a t-shirt (no lederhosen for him). Being in the VIP section meant that we were close to the stage, with a dance floor and had mud covered wood under our feet rather than just the bare mud. We're obviously here for some beer drinking. They serve only one beer, which is an Oktoberfest style from 'Festival Brew'. It costs £3 for a half pint, £8.50 for 1.5pt or £11 for a 2pt pour. Note no standard 1pint measure. There were also cider and wine available, but I didn't really pay attention to those. The beer was served in plastic jugs. Which is disappointing, but necessary at these kinda events, in case it all kicks off. Unsurprisingly, there have been lots of people posting how 'ripped off' they felt from the event. It has rained quite a lot recently. Ok so paying premium prices to sit at a rickety table, under a tent, in a muddy puddle filled carpark, is not everyone's idea of fun. The food was basically bratwurst, with fries or sauerkraut, and pretzels. There was a weisswurst on the menu but I didn't see anyone having this. They possibly missed a trick by not serving currywurst. I think currywurst would go down really well with British punters. I like currywurst, I might make currywurst for dinner tonight. Mmmm #currywurst The music drifted between a band playing trad German songs and getting everyone to sway, to those classics one remembers from holiday entertainment discos in the 80s. In fact the event had an atmosphere of a family function about it. It was like your girlfriend's, brother's, wife's, uncle's wedding. Despite all the extortionate prices, the cheesy music and the mud, I found the event rather enjoyable. I'm not sure if this is down to the company, and we could have enjoyed ourselves anywhere else? Or if it was the booze, which I'm sure did help. Or does standing on a rickety bench whilst swaying back and forth really put a smile on anyone's mouth? There seemed to be a united Yelp rendition of 'You Could Be Mine'. After which, I decided that it was time to merrily walk back to Harborne. Stopping of for a pint on the way back. Advice to anyone looking at attending next year, or another similar elsewhere: * Don't go with any pretentions of getting an authentic Bavarian experience. * Wear comfy shoes that you don't mind being covered in mud. * Expect to pay large amount for the beer * Don't take any food or drink with you as they make you throw it away at the entrance * Loosen up and enjoy it for what it is Advice for the organisers: * Lower drinks prices - I would have probably stayed for more had it not been so expensive. * More toilets - there was reports of huge queues for both ladies and gents Saturday night. * British weather is wet, more ground covering is required. * Currywurst. *Munich's Oktoberfest runs from late September to the first Sunday in October. This year it finished on 4th October.

We enjoyed it in the museum so much because it is one of those places which can take as long as you want it too, we spent a good couple of hours talking to the people who worked there, wandering around and even getting a half pint in the pub. The museum is one of a kind and somewhere I feel everyone has to experience once, whether from the Black Country or not! My husbands family are visiting the Black Country for the first time in a couple of weeks and I've already dedicated a day for this and to go to mad O'Rourkes after (also a necessity when visiting)
