What a hidden treasure!! My realtor and I were in a deep discussion as to if Thompson Station was 's or just s so decided to check out the restaurant right in front of the train station. Boy were we not disappointed. You will absolutely taste the skill and quality of the food !!! I would highly recommend the scallops, some of the best I've ever had. My husband had the blackened trout and raved all night about it. We started with an appetizer of fresh tomatoes and one of fried tomatoes. Both were so yummy I couldn't grab a pic in time before they were all eaten! Drinks were also great as well as the service. This is a restaurant you could dress up for or dress down. It's casual but worthy, relaxed but memorable. Parking is easy and a great place to just chill with some exceptional food. My wife and I go here quite often for date night and we absolutely love it! The restaurant is always busy and the moment you walk in, it smells incredible. It has such a cool atmosphere and the staff are extremely friendly. Our server was Rae, and she was fantastic! She was attentive, kind, and knew the menu inside and out. I noticed how often she came by to refill our waters, check on us, and make sure we were having a great time all while rushing off to take care of her other guests just as well. I haven't had such a great server in a long time. If you visit Circa, definitely ask for Rae you won't be disappointed!! Our meal was extremely good and such a great value for the price. The brie is always one of our favorites. We also tried the shrimp fritters and wow, I'm so glad we did! The Ahi tuna was incredibly fresh and refreshing. The steak burrata flatbread was good, though it tasted a little bland to me. The mushroom burger was solid too, but not the most flavorful. Overall, we love this place! Came for brunch at 10am on a Sunday. Service was great. Vibe was relaxed. Most of the food was good. My boyfriend and his friend got the steak and eggs. That was fantastic! I had the breakfast plate which wasn't anything to write home about. For apps we had the cinnamon roll and the baked Brie. The baked Brie was delicious. Highly recommend that. The cinnamon roll was way over baked. It was hard and dry, not moist and soft as you'd like it to be. When I'm in town I love to visit this restaurant because it is one of the very few in the area that offers high quality and great food, with excellent service, and a nice atmosphere. Enjoyed the filet with the Henry Baine sauce (IDK who Henry Bain is but his sauce is delicious and he deserves a hug) which is sweet and spicy. And that's exactly how I'd also describe our server Bridget! She was perfect. Request her area if you go! Great drinks, great side dishes (loved the brussel sprouts), and great service. For the last couple years, we've not gone to Circa as often as we'd like, primarily because the chef has been overachieving, with most dishes needlessly complex and the kitchen unable to execute them well. So you get a lot of "stuff stuff with heavy" on the menu, and unpleasant flavors when you order. We'd learned over time to keep to the simplest on the menu, such as the wood fired steaks, which are tasty. This visit, we veered back to try some of the composed plates, and were mostly pleasantly surprised. Lobster hushpuppies (4 to an order) were crisp and tasty, though it's impossible to tell whether there is actually lobster involved, the crust and sauce overwhelms any gentle lobster flavor. The beet tartare is fun, actually makes a pretty nice salad(ish) course, and the very spicy jalapeno slices I loved. Wife got a filet and was happy with the cook, though said it was tougher than any other filet she's had recently. I tried the, new to the winter menu, ragu, and it was very good. Chopped BBQ flavored brisket with thick ribbons of pasta. I'd recommend and would order again. It's a cozy friendly place, and great to have in our little Thompson's Station community. So while the food is rising to 3 star these days, they're deserving of a 4th for some local pride. read more

They said they have a policy they don't serve without permanent ID. Completely ruined the whole reason we went there. The service was awful. I had a remarkably lovely Sunday brunch at Circa. My waffle was exactly as all waffles should be, with buttery slightly crispy edges and a pillow-y interior. My one qualm, however (which resulted in an entire point deduction), was the dish of artificial syrup served on the side. How a restaurant of Circa's caliber can live with itself and serve anything beside pure maple syrup truly confounds me! I could wax rhapsodic about this topic, but I must move on... The environment is one I would opt to enjoy all of my meals in if I could; soft natural light cascades in through large picture windows and wood furnishings give the place an inviting living-room feel. I sampled the dishes my family ordered (the Cinnamon Roll French Toast & the Eggs Benedict) and both were worthy of praise. We washed down our respective plates with perfect cups of French-pressed coffee. We contemplated sitting in our booth, blissfully full, and waiting for the dinner menus to be brought out, but decided we'd make another occasion out of it, instead. My only advice to anybody reading this review is do not go to this place. This place is extremely overpriced for what you actually get. . this place wants to be a five star restaurant with having a two star menu with five star price prices. For example, there was three of us on my tab. Two of us got the burgers and the other person got a chicken sandwich. Burgers were $19 and the chicken sandwich was $18. The steak prices are absolutely ridiculous. I am not gonna pay $60-$70 for a steak at a restaurant that looks like this. We've been to Perry's many times along with Jeff Ruby's and Smith Wolinsky's. Some of the prices matched these five star restaurants with nothing to back it up. We avoided getting a $300 bill at this Cracker Barrel so we ended up just getting the cheapest things on the menu cause I was already pissed off with the prices they were asking Anyhoo We got two sides, macaroni and cheese for $20 which would only feed one and a half adults if that and it was crap. and we also got a side of brussels sprouts which was a bowl for one person, but they swore it could feed 2 to 3 people and again brussels sprouts are crap. We both had water which was the best thing on the menu. The other person in our group had two drinks totaling $25. And we had a $10 dessert. our bill for the three of us was $160. With tip our bill was $185. Absolutely criminal. I felt like we got robbed. Now to review the food. Mediocre burger, mediocre chicken sandwich, terrible sides, but the water was fantastic. It's a very non-descriptive building. You walk into it and is one open floor plan. Nothing in there makes you feel like you're at an upscale five star restaurant with these prices. We've been too many five star restaurants Jeff Ruby, Smith, & Wollensky, etc. this place is more like a Cracker Barrel. One of the biggest pet peeves we had was during our entire service. There was only six people at our table. The waitress continually would stand at the end of the table (next to me ) and she would interrupt our meal and Ask Are we done with this plate or this fork or this bowl. So we had to stop and hand her any unused bowls or plates or silverware, even if we were using them still. The weird part was that she would never walk around the table and grab them from each person. She made us all gather them up and send them down to the end of table where I was sitting, and I had a stack of plates or bowls, etc., and hand them up to her. this happened numerous times throughout the meal I've never experienced this we felt so rushed and then once we got the bill, I was disgusted. So moral to the story is avoid Circa unless you want to get a overpriced mediocre meal this place is for you To be honest, you would get a better burger and mac & cheese at Cracker Barrel. read more

Great, relaxing environment and great food to match. I love the inside of this place, it's just simple and welcoming in the best way possible. The menu seems to be semi-rotational and seasonal, which some people love and some people don't. The burger with pork belly was the show-stopper. If you're a burger enthusiast, this is a must. The pork belly appetizer was also great, it's more of a "hash" with how small the pork belly is diced up and presented. I wish the pieces were a little bigger, it's hard to get everything in one bite. The appetizers were also great, unfortunately the desserts were just a few notches above average. Staff is friendly but hit or miss with attentiveness. My friend and I met here Sunday at 12 for Brunch. My first time there and she has been there a couple of times. It's much smaller in person then in the pictures but super cute. our waiter was kind and quirky, I think his name was Allen. We split a cinnamon roll for starters, it was delicious! I don't think I want to split one again if I go back LOL. We both had just the regular drip coffee and I got the traditional eggs benedict and my friend got the steak frites. I love eggs benedict, but my food was extra salty. Both the potatoes and the prosciutto were very salty. It was good overall and I know prosciutto is salty in general but this was like extra salty. I ate everything mostly and just left the prosciutto. I took off one star for that because maybe its just my taste buds. I would like to try them out a second time as they had lots of interesting dishes on the menu. And some pretty cool sounding cocktails. read more

It had very little bacon,. Who puts a little piece of bacon on a Blt? Well this place did and for this I'd probably not come back. One of the worst dining experiences. We opted to sit at the bar; it was a busy night. We sat for 30 minutes, with no one asking us if we wanted to eat. The bar top in front of us was never cleaned, a waiter did come by, we tried to taste a couple of Sauvignon Blanca, but were told they don't do that (they have in the past), I stopped a waitress to get menus, the bartender said she was too busy to put the NFL game on the TV, or ask if wanted to eat. That said, the pricing is now comparable to dtown Nashville/trendier restaurants. I am also NOT a cheap/thrifty person, but jamming a customer $13 for some bread and butter, that is included at most places for free, is borderline egotistical. Worth the drive down! Wanted to spend a day in the area and hit their brunch, and so happy we did. Quaint restaurant with big flavor. The cinnamon roll was fantastic, especially that middle section when everything soaked in. Wowww. They were out of what I originally wanted, the chorizo hash, so I opted for the smoked pork breakfast tacos. The tacos were good, I think something was missing with the pork but that could've been my own preference because the waiter sad they were the best thing on the menu. The potatoes though, omg. We had reservations for 7 people to come in for our 50th Wedding Anniversary and a birthday March 1. We had guests from out of state just for the occasion. We arrived on time and were seated promptly. Our waitress was fabulous. Perfect attention to every detail and very polite. Every bite of the food was excellent. Complements to the Chef! My husband (of 50yrs) paid for all of our meals, which included appetizers, main dishes, sides, drinks and deserts. Ofcourse it was a big expense, but we wanted it to be our treat for this once in a lifetime occasion. My husband had just come back to the table from the restroom, and I was about to say I think we should go. It was about 6:50. Before I could say anything, a floor manager came to our table and told us we needed to wrap it up because they needed our table. I don't know if they were overbooked or took non reserved people, but it was packed and people lined up, which isn't unusual there, and extremely loud. We've been those waiting for a seat many times. We've been there many times, even long before it was Circa. We've been frequenting that venue since 1996. To say this took our memorable, enjoyable evening to an overcast tone is pretty accurate. Very disappointing and unnecessary. I reached out more than once but no response, so I have to assume this is fine with them. So if you want more than under 2 hrs for a special dinner full course meals with guests, it might not happen here. I take no joy in only giving one star to the restaurant that had been our favorite for years, but sadly it was earned. So disrespectful. read more

We've been going to Circa since it opened - the food is always delicious. However, the last few times the service has been lacking. Today, our server forgot to make sure the appetizer was delivered before our entree. So, we cancelled the Brie appetizer. We decided that we would order a dessert since we didn't receive our appetizers. The bill was delivered and we were never even asked about dessert. Missed opportunities! The lobster gnocchi was the highlight of our evening! Everything else we ordered was just alright. The charcuterie board had only three small chunks of bread which was not even close to enough. The cocktails were good but not great. The place was a little on the loud side...there was a table nearby that was pretty rowdy. There are also three TV screens playing sports in the bar area so it made it feel a little more like a casual vibe. So if that's what you're looking for, you'll enjoy it! After enjoying many great meals here, experienced our first really off dinner. So disappointing when you're spending $300 for dinner/drinks for three. Absolutely freezing at a table right inside the door (they did provide a small space heater) but it did NOTHING for the frigid breeze whenever the door opened. Totally ruined a meal and drinks when your teeth are chattering and body shivering. Services is usually exemplary but understand they were short staffed. Appetizers came out before we got our drinks, food was ok but not the usual scrumptious offerings, and just overall such an expensive disappointment when you're entertaining an out of state guest. Everything has been great very single time! The staff, the ambiance, and the food is wonderful. The only tiny downside I can even remotely say is that when you have a bigger party (we had only 6), we had to sit in the middle of the room and it was a bit louder than what we're used to. We have always sat by the window or towards the back right side. Definitely not a bad thing, we just had 2 kids and grandparents in town visiting and it was harder to hear. I'm from San Diego and I came to visit my friends Doug and Sue who recently moved to Thompson Station. Circa is the first place my friends took me. Wow! I come from food Mecca of the world, and Circa was right up there with one of the best meals I've had in a long time. The Caesar Salad was literally the best caesar salad I've ever had. I had the 16oz Coffee Rubbed Ribeye -- absolutely perfect. My friend and I shared two sides, the Wood Fired Asparagus and the Summer Corn Brulee. One hack: spread the Summer Corn Brulee on the Ribeye. Lastly, my friend had the Woodford Reserve neat, and I had the Old Fashioned. Great balance. But, what's so impressive is not only was the food excellent, from start to finish, the servie and hospitality was even better. After the meal, Doug and I went to the bar and happned to sit next to the owners Robin and Cory. They were so pleasant, down-to-earth, and warm. No wonder their waitresses and staff were such world-class people. In particular, Camille -- I believe her name was -- knew everything. I was so impressed by how smart she was, how fun and cool she was, and how proud she was of Thompson Station. Lastly the ambiance was warm, chic, and inviting. Everybody there was happy to be there. Kudos to Robin and Cory for their labor of love to create such an important place where excellent food, and most importantly, life-long friendship and community can be fostered. This is by far my favorite place (a little outside of) Franklin to take guests from out of town or have a nice date night! The service is always great and I love how they can accommodate my mom who has celiac and has to eat Gluten Free. I have loved everything I've ordered here and will definitely be back! This was our first visit in a year +. Our last visit earned a mediocre review because the place (server's fault probably) exuded a "foo foo" vibe. Left just soaked in it. This visit - totally different! Host was terrific and his positivity and low key charm was a perfect welcoming attitude. Our server was friendly, fun, helpful, efficient and professional.
