Cheese on the nachos most likely from a can. They advertise on their building for beer and wine. But make you bring you own. This was the worst restaurant I ever had the misfortune to enter. I ordered a hamburger medium rare. After putting together all the fixings and cutting into it I found it was raw. I asked politely that they rectify it. After ten minutes or so it came back - the same two halves cooked well done and plopped back onto my fixins and the plopped into the ketchup I'd put on the plate for my fries. It was absolutely disgusting. When I was asked how it was now I irately said it was disgusting and the manager (?) argued with me about what constitutes medium rare. Stopped in here for lunch after a long hike. Everything was fabulous. The waitress was very attentive and quickly realized she just needed to bring us a pitcher of water. I had the fish tacos which were to die for with a side of yummy pasta salad. I also had a slice of local made Key Lime Pie. My companions had a burrito and a chicken Caesar salad, the veggies were fresh and the French Fries were fabulous. If you happen to be rolling through this tiny town, this is a MUST! I am trying to be as fair as possible in my review of this place. We had a party of 4. Three out of 4 ordered burgers and all said their burgers were good. I order the mixed BBQ plate which came with only 2 to 3 ribs and 2 slices of brisket, mashed potatoes and gravy, and green beans. When my plate arrived all in the group looked at it and thought that looks bad. Let's just say the best thing on my plate was the green beans. Both meats were extremely dry and chewy. I suspect they were BBQ earlier and left to sit. Definitely, some of the worst bbq meats I've had in a long time. The mashed potatoes were runny and I suspect came out of a box. I don't send food back as a practice. You serve me bad food once, and I will probably not come bad again. When the bill came, all I saw was the total. There was no itemized list for our bill. No, I didn't ask for one, but really should I have had to? Service was fine. I have no complaints about the service. I'm torn on this review. While the food was absolutely amazing (i got the bbq brisket burger) the service was less than stellar. We waited 15 minutes before our waitress arrived to take our order, i originally requested the buffalo blue cheese burger without the buffalo sauce and asked to add the sriracha mayo instead. I was told by the waitress that this was "a big ask" and that the kitchen might "yell at [her]" if she requested. I don't know any restaurant in the world that wouldn't accommodate this request for a burger. Additionally our waitress only asked about our experience at the very end of our meal and never "checked in" for drink refills or whatnot. we had a VERY bad experience: When we tried to order food over the phone, we were told by a voice message that only orders in person are possible, but when we arrived at the restaurant there was no process for ordering in person and all interested patrons were standing outside until another guest provided the information. During the ordering process we were told to select from the list of side dishes, even though the menu clearly lists them all as parts of the dish. one one of our meals the fries were missing, but the onions we asked to not include were present. On the other meal (combo platter), the chicken was missing and the brisket was mainly just fat. I understand if a restaurant can run out of food, but I would have expected that information to be shared when the food is handed over and maybe a substitution is offered? Walked in around 7 and the place was half full. There were 2 groups in front of us so we waited patiently to be seated. 45 minutes later we were finally seated. Not sure why it took so long, there were plenty of open tables. Anyway, all their local beers are layers and IPAs. Utah has so many great blondes and wheat ales. After taking our drink order we didn't see our waitress, who seemed confused when I ordered water with no ice, for another 30 minutes. All 5 of us ordered hamburgers and after 45 minutes they hadn't even started cooking them yet. 3 of us canceled and the other 2 stayed behind to wait. An hour later the 2 who stayed behind to wait show up at camp with 3 hamburgers in tow. What?!? Even though we'd canceled them they were put into to-go containers and were still charged for them. This place is the exact reason why Yelp needs a 0 star rating. Being forced to give them a star is an injustice to how horrible this place is. read more

Was skeptical at first as the old Circle D was funky at best, but found the newly refurbished hotel to be very clean, qulet, and just a great place to relax. Rooms were nicely redone, tv, wi-fi, frig and microwave. Local guide books were available in each room, and staff was very helpful in suggesting interesting routes to take in the local area. Recommended by Tami at Canyon Country Lodge, we cycled the mile or so into and through the town of Escalante, UT, hungry from the long drive from Moab. The Circle D is also billed as a motel, so my expectations were not high. You could smell the warm scent of the BBQ smoker beside the building as we pulled up, so I considered "perhaps" the eatery might have something worthy of tired taste buds - I was not disappointed! I ordered the beef brisket plate, a bit pensive about the order because anyone who has spent any time in Texas knows barbecuing brisket is an art. The wait staff advised this was an excellent choice as "they smoke the brisket all day". When the plate arrived with grilled green beans, mash potatoes, and the all day smoked brisket, I began to sample each item with caution. The green beans were seasoned and grilled to a perfect flavor and texture and the mashed potatoes/gravy tasted divine - I moved on to the brisket. The meat was so remarkably tender, it cut like butter!! The BBQ smoke was flavorful, but not too smoky as some BBQ can be (I did ask what wood was used, as it tasted faintly of a mild apple wood, but the wait staff did not know) - the eatery makes their own BBQ sauce, which had only a mild sampling already on the meat and a small container on the dish for adding - this BBQ sauce was SO tasteful, we asked if they bottled and sold it (they don't unfortunately). BBQ brisket can be ruined if smothered in sauce, so it was an excellent touch to place the sauce on the side and allow the diner to choose how much if any they may want. After hiking all day in slot canyons, through streams, and the desert you are DYING to have a great meal to refuel all of your calories. This is the place to get that burger you've been dreaming of while hiking all day. After we backpacked for 2 nights, we stopped here before heading home. It was a Monday around 3pm, and only a few other tables were occupied. I ordered the bison burger ($12.50) and asked for the guacamole and bacon to be added on (an additional $3 total, so $15 total). I assumed cheese would be put on there but when it came out with no cheese I was a bit surprised. I wasn't a big deal for me, I just didn't realize you have to ASK for it to be put on. I ordered the burger MW and it came out just right. The lettuce was a bit pathetic though, and only 1 slice of tomato. The fries though, OMG, those were the best! They had a really good breading on them - super addicting. There was one server working the entire place and he did a great job. In Escalante, you are limited to a few places to eat - Nemo's Drive in or the Circle D seem to be the only two ever open. There's Subway as well, but why eat at Subway when you've got the Circle D?! Took a pit stop here at Circle D. Wasn't expecting much taken as we haven't had one decent meal this whole trip in South Utah. Ordered Green Chilli Burger with Polygamy Nitro Porter and Devastator. The burger was great! Juicy and tender. Best burger thus far!! Coming from SF, we do have quite picky taste buds. So this is definitely worth a stop! We stopped at Circle D Eatery on our way through Escalante, we weren't expecting much considering it was an impromptu stop. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of food. I had ordered the Chicken Club sandwich and it was great. It was a good size leaving me full. My cousin had ordered the Spaghetti-The Classic Way, and let me say that marinara sauce was amazing. Another friend ordered the chicken but they didn't have a thigh to complete the order so they let her know and offered to sub it out with some grilled chicken. Had a different waitress who took almost 30 minutes to get to our table to take our drink order, which was wrong. We only ordered a couple of light dishes (pasta salad) and didn't hear from the waitress for another 35 minutes, so we gave up and left. I would understand more if it was busy, but there may have been 6 couples there between 3 wait staff. This was unacceptable. From the outside, it looks like a cheap motel restaurant. Upon walking in, and seeing the menu, it isn't cheap lol. Had the rib eye special and it was cooked to medium-rare perfection. That's all I cared about. Service was prompt and friendly. My friend had the BBQ and said it was really good, but small portioned. Said he wished they had some sides that paired with BBQ like beans or coleslaw. Also went to Cowboy Blues for their steak and though it was also good, Circle D's does it better. If we had stayed longer in Escalante, I would have ate here more than once. read more
