Another of life's inconvenient truths. Sometimes, you have to get scans, x-rays and other diagnostic procedures. Are they fun? Generally not, but at least Citiscan Radiology with its hi-tech feeling waiting room (with Wi-Fi and iPad terminals) made it feel less like drudgery and more upbeat. I'd made an early morning appointment for my scan and I think I'd sat in the waiting room for less than 5 minutes before I was called into the room for the scan. Out in about 10mins and within another 5 I was walking out the door with my scan prints in my hand to give to my GP. Pretty exceptional service! Oh, and a note on their location: if you're in the Queen Street Mall and find yourself looking at Typo. That's the spot. Need an ultrasound, scan, or just want to see what your insidey parts look like? Citiscan is conveniently located in the heart of the Brisbane CBD. To get to CityScan, head in to the T&G building off the Mall and take a lift up to level 2. When you depart the lift, veer left and follow the signs on your left around a corner heading right (don't go in the ambulance entry) and head in at the auto sensored glass doors on the left. Ambience **** This is one of the schlickest waiting rooms I've ever sat in. Amazingly done interior, considering the age of the building. Take a few moments to let it soak in; glossy white surfaces against dark blue décor, black and white chairs (which are starting to look a little worn) at round tables topped with recent magazines, a widescreen wall mounted TV (showing bleh, daytime television), a water cooler, even starburst lollies are on the counter for you to chew laboriously while you wait. The examination rooms are spacey, with monitors where you can (if you're in a position to do so) see whatever it is the scan shows. The rooms are dimly lit and some have adjoining bathrooms, if not, then small dressing rooms. It can be a bit mazey getting from whichever examination room you're in back to the reception area, but the staff are happy to show you the way out if you're easily confused like me. Services on offer ***** If it's your first visit here, you'll need to fill out a new patient form; plenty of pens at the counter, and don't forget your Medicare card! CityScan offers plenty of radiology services, of which I've had the... gulp... pleasure... of experiencing a pelvic ultrasound (yes, the not fun kind), and an echo-cardiogram (not the echo stress test, which I don't think they do - better to check the website). Service **** Make sure you book; I've seen people walk in expecting to get a scan to be told there'd be a lengthy wait, and even I've had to wait ~15 minutes or so at times. The receptionist staff seem a bit terse toward patients who complain of the waiting times or who have trouble understanding (slow or non-English speaking backgrounds), but are generally friendly. Combine all of my visits and I've shown off every inch of my lady parts to one sonographer or another. I can say with ease that I've come away feeling fine each time. Of course you're going to be nervous about wearing a robe with nothing underneath, and if they can help it they'll let you keep as much of your clothes on as possible. Keeping in mind this is not a time to be timid about your body, think about the appropriate clothes that you might be able to get away with depending on which scan you're getting done. Until the invasive part of the pelvic ultrasound, I was welcome to keep my pants on, and when it came time to whip them off, I had a separate bathroom to go to with a robe to get changed. I was allowed to keep my loose fitting top on the whole time. The echocardiogram was a different matter, and being that I was being tended by a guy, I was even more nervous. I don't know how they do it, but I've never met a male in any medical field I couldn't strip to one degree or another in front of. He was a veteran at chatting to me the whole time I lay there topless to help keep the edge off my nervousness, and as gentle as anyone should be when handling someone else's chest area. Overall If you've ever had cardiology or radiology scans done, you know they're not cheap. Some are covered by Medicare, some aren't. Make sure you check it out before you book (both times I went, they quoted the out of pocket expense to me on the phone) and make sure you have the cash (or card) on you to pay for the scan. I think they have payment plans, but I haven't had to use one, so if you don't have ~$200 on you, best to ask first. You'll get the hard copy of your scans fairly quickly while you wait, and they'll forward them on electronically to your doctor. You don't really want to be coming here (unless you're having a baby I suppose), so it's nice if the process goes smoothly when you do. Anything that's bulk billable, they'll do. No fuss booking appointments, I got in the same day I called up. The reception staff were polite and professional, and there's a couple iMacs available to surf the internet while you wait, or you can sink into a comfy chair and watch trashy tv. I'll save you the details, but the lady doing my scan was very polite and friendly, and incredibly thorough. Once done I was back in the waiting room where another lady on reception handed me a couple CDs, and my results would be sent straight to my GP. A convenient CBD location and bulk billing are only of any worth if you actually get a reliable service, otherwise there is no point. The front-of-house ladies are nice and the waiting room area is very modern and clean. Appointments are easy to come by. Unfortunately, that's where the good ends and the bad begins... The ultrasound technician was professional but had such a cold bedside manner that she made me feel like a piece of gum on the sole of her shoe. This is not ideal when you're already feeling wretched enough that you need a scan done. The absolute worst part was receiving the report saying how fabulous my insides looked, except that they had obviously been looking at someone else's insides since they kept referring to an organ that I had had surgically removed years ago! When queried, they sent a one line amendment noting the change but would not confirm whether the radiologist had actually reviewed my scans or just made the amendment as a result of our query. The woman on the phone said "Of course they would have looked at your scan to do the report" but outright refused to let me speak with the doctor or to follow up with them on my behalf and call me back. I now have to get another referral and do another scan (definitely somewhere else!) because these results cannot be trusted. I know that mix-ups sometimes happen and that is okay; what is not okay is the way in which they failed to address the problem. At the end of the day they did not even offer an apology. read more

Convenient location for city workers, but be sure that reception actually knows what you need. I made an appointment for a scan and was assured they could do it. I offered the doctors notes, but the receptionist said that its fine and everything will be worked out at the appointment. But when I get there it turns out that they can't do the scan and they offered me an appointment with another company who would charge for the scan instead of bulk billing. The convenient location is pointless when your time has been wasted through unskilled employees. read more

I did my 3D Scan on 19122016 to send the video of my baby to my parentes that live in Brazil. I could not open the dvd on my computer, my husband could not open on his computer, my friend could not open in her computer either. I went back there, the staff just told me is all right. I told but show me because I could not open and I paid for it. She asked me but you do not have the photos? Yes, I do but I want the dvd. They were very impolite and did not resolve my dvd problem. I came back home and I am trying open the dvd and I can`t. I did a 3d ultrasson at Miracle me and I did not have problem to open the dvd. The city scan did not give a shit to help me and they have very impolite staff. Money trhow out. Do not pay cheap and shit! Why I did not pay expensive and had a dvd for remember my baby and send to my parents see my baby. SHIT SHIT SHIT WORK read more

Just a follow up. Citiscan contacted me yesterday to apologise for the inconvenience caused and explained they had a technical problem with their machine on that day. At the time I was there it would have been helpful to know this and they acknowledge that they were wrong in not keeping me informed. I appreciate their follow up and accepted their apology. read more
