We walked in to Citrus & Salt on a Monday evening and were seated right away. The ambiance and decor were very lively - we felt like we were in Miami. I had been craving fish tacos for a really long time, and I was delighted to find a whole section of the menu dedicated to them. We started off with margaritas - one of the best companions to fish tacos - and I ordered mine spicy with jalapeño. For food, we shared the lobster empanadas and chorizo and potato taquitos. I ordered the tempura fish tacos for myself. Our margaritas were brought out shortly - mine was refreshing but lacked the kick from the jalapeño that I was hoping for (there was only one thin slice of pepper). Our food was brought out shortly, and I found it a bit overwhelming when our appetizers and tacos came out together. I started with my tacos, and these were excellent. The fish was flaky and fried to perfection, and I loved the rainbow of sauces and toppings. Plus, the tortillas were nice and sturdy and didn't tear. The lobster empanadas were super decadent, and I appreciated the substantial amount of lobster stuffed inside. I was too full to eat much of the taquitos but took a few bites. These also had good flavor but weren't standouts. Next time, I'd just get the tacos and maybe a light app. Towards the end of our visit, the restaurant seemed to clear out, and we had a difficult time trying to locate our server for the bill. The Seaport space is just as stunning--decked out in pink, super aesthetic, and definitely a fun, photo-worthy vibe. Unfortunately, the experience didn't quite live up to expectations. For drinks, I ordered a pitcher margarita with jalapeño, and it was disappointing. It didn't taste fresh and came across more like artificial jalapeño flavoring rather than real infusion--and it wasn't spicy at all. For food, we ordered a variety of small plates to share. Everything was decent, but nothing really stood out. It felt a bit underwhelming compared to the atmosphere. The biggest issue was the service. The ambiance is so chic! Celebrated my birthday there in July and a time was had. They accommodated a large group of us. Service was quick even with it being on a Saturday night and the place was busy. Food was honestly MID. First off, let me say that the decor here is top-notch! Everything is so beautiful and perfectly set up for a girls night and/or baby shower. We were greeted and sat, and decided to start with drinks and the guac. The guac was very good! I also love the chips that came with it. Unlike traditional tortilla chips, they were they were coated with a thick seasoning that I thought would resemble Doritos (gross), but actually tasted amazing. My friends and I attended their cookbook launch party and all I can say is A+. I have attended events like this before but Citrus and Salt outdid themselves. There were three stations featuring food. There was a chip, plantain, salsa and Guacamole bar, taco station and one more. They served mini concoctions of their delicious drinks and food was passed throughout the night. Pretty mid experience dining here, I'm ngl. The vibes were really great, but otherwise the service and food were just fine. More than anything else, the draw of this spot is definitely the ambiance, which I can't lie, was vibrant and electric- perfect for a fun night out with party energy. However, for being a restaurant right on the water, I was not too impressed with their popular fish tacos- the meat tasted slightly unfresh and wasn't super desirable. Their flavors in general are pretty tasty, especially on the nice crispy chilaquiles, but nothing really blew me away. I will say, the portions are generous for the price, but with the quality and taste of the food, I'm not sure that's enough to make me want to come back. The service was nice enough, but felt a little impersonal and rushed; I felt at times like we were being forgotten and met with the intention of getting us out as fast as possible, so the whole night felt more like a quick meal than a nice dinner. (Last visited October 19, 2023.) Hanging out in Boston for work and it's Taco Tuesday! So naturally, I do some Yelp'ing and found Citrus & Salt! Here's how it went... Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right downtown Boston tucked among the skyscrapers is this gem. Obviously, it's downtown so it won't have a private parking lot. I'm sure there's plenty of street parking in a neighborhood nearby, but be careful to really read the signs carefully. Once inside it felt a little like a nightclub! Lol. Not that the music was loud of anything, but the energy inside or lively, the vibes were high and everyone seemed like they were having a good time. I was also surprised by how big the place was! So many downtown restaurants have a small footprint, but this one was about the size of 2 "normal" restaurants. The decor was awesome, the lighting was a little dark, but it was colorful and energetic. Service: We sat at the bar and even though it was quite busy, we had no issues at all. Food: My friends and I were sharing so many plates that I can't remember everything that I had. Lol. However, I remember liking everything that I tried. The drinks were also good! Everything was so picturesque, but the flavors definitely matched the plate's visuals. Value: This place is a bit more "upscale" than your "traditional" Mexican restaurant. So you will pay more here, but it's totally worth it. I probably spent $75.00 myself on a few taps and some drinks. In conclusion, I really liked it here and would absolutely return here! Had a quick day in Boston and stopped in for a late dinner. This place was poppin, full of people and buzz. The decor was fun, filled with plants and neon lights. This is a tapas style restaurant with lots of small plates with food coming out as it is ready. We ordered several things and it was all delicious. Cheese curds piled high on top of a bed of street corn. Empanadas filled to the brim with delicious pork. And don't get me started on the octopus, so tender and covered in an amazing bacon something. What we ordered: -pineapple dole whip -key lime sorbet -churros -espresso martini (came w/ espresso beans) For the espresso martini we ordered it without the patron and just with tequila reposado. It came with these chocolate covered coffee beans that were divine! Literally so good, we had to ask for more. My favorite dessert, of the ones we ordered, is the churros! They were all very good but the churros from here are something different, for real! They tasted very fresh, soft, and almost like a pillow... I don't even know to explain it but they're crazy good! It came with two different dipping sauces, vanilla dulce & a chocolate sauce. The pineapple dole whip & key lime sorbet were great! Very refreshing and were yummy, light desserts after dinner. Seems to be a pretty busy place so I would make sure to make a res! We were okay with sitting bar since we were just getting desserts anyways. We came in for a post dinner session and friends wanted to grab a martini before heading home. I wasn't in the drinking mood so we ordered some sides. The expresso martini black my buddy enjoyed said it was a tad heavier on the liquor side cassamigos reprosado which isn't a bad thing haha and came with these chocolate covered coffee beans that was fuego. The dole whip soft serve was refreshing and had actual bits of pineapple at the bottom. My personal fave of the night was the next two items, the key lime sorbet my goodness brings you back to the days of Italian ice in the summer scraping it with a wooden stick spoon as a kid. The highlight is churros. Need me two orders of this. Perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked, light crispy with a hot, soft, chew. Seriously just order it. The vanilla dulce is my preferred dip out of the two. The mezcal chocolate wasn't my cup of tea. Here's what we tried: -Swordfish Ceviche: Fresh and flavorful. The sauce paired perfectly with the fish, and the pineapple and jalapeño added a great touch. - Grilled Street Corn: Exactly how street corn should be; creamy, flavorful, and the Hot Cheetos added a fun crunch. Also it came off the cob!!! - Mussels Frites: Unfortunately, this one missed the mark for us. The portion was small for the price, and the wine flavor overpowered the mussels. Would skip this next time. - Slow-Roasted Pork Empanadas: Loved these! We loved this place! I made reservations here for Valentine's day for me and my family of 3. We dressed up and headed for a 5pm dinner. It was soo nice! The vibe is great, flowers hanging everywhere and so many colors everywhere. Music is playing loudly which was fun! We had the guac and chips, shrimp cocktail, a few tacos and tasty street corn. All the food was great and tasty. We love tapas. The drinks were great. My 13 y/o daughter loved the mocktails. Our waiter was very nice and helpful. He made great suggestions. But the new location is equally impressive, featuring flower trees, graffiti-covered walls, and the iconic "I didn't text you, tequila did." Our server was attentive and was friendly throughout our experience. We started with the chips, guacamole, and queso, which were quite tasty, but not the best we've ever had. The fish tacos, on the other hand, were a hit. They were quite large and delicious. My friend opted for the primadonna and the after hours, both of which looked visually appealing and equally as delicious. Citrus and Salt offers a variety of options, including nonalcoholic choices. We were a group of twelve. Giovanna was our main server, there were a couple more that I didn't get their names. It was chaotic fun. Kinda loud Friday night. The place was packed. Thankfully we had a reservation and were in the back by a roll up garage door...see picture of flamingo. Drinks came first. Yummy Mango Margherita with a toasted coconut rim for me. Others had Margheritas, mojitos, beer and mocktails. We ordered oysters; chips with guacamole and cheese; ahi tuna ceviche with plantain chips to share for appetizers. They were authentic and delicious. Next came food. We were informed ahead of time that food would come out as ready. Not waiting for the entire table. This worked as we had plenty of appetizers. So, everyone had their food hot. I will say, the food was delicious. At either end of the table were the NO cilantro folks. I was in the middle with four others who needed extra cilantro, to the dismay of our dinner mates. I truly enjoyed the experience. It was cooked perfectly and it literally just melted in your mouth as you took a bite. The scallops were a bit overcooked. The guac was seasoned nicely. The street corn was good, but messy to eat! The churros were a perfect end to our meal. The decorations at Citrus & Salt were similar to their Back Bay location and it's so pretty to look at. Waited for the host for 15 minutes and was told they were booked but you could sit at the bar. So we sat at the bar. Didn't get our menus till another 15 minutes. Didn't take our order for maybe 20. Food came out very scattered and none of us really ate at the same time. They also forgot to bring out someone's food and we had to get up to walk around to find the bar tender to get check on our food. When it came out that person had to eat last when everyone else was done. Very understaffed and overworked it seems. There's also auto gratuity. Food itself was fine. I always wanted to come to this place when I was in the Seaport. I was looking for a fancy place to enjoy a meal without hurting my wallet. When I looked at their menu I was surprised at how affordable this place was compared to other spots in the area. I came here for dinner on Saturday night. It was slightly early so it was not too packed. I found a seat at the bar due to all the tables being reserved for the night. The bartenders were very helpful in recommending what to order. Everyone at the bar was friendly and easy to talk to during the night. I decided to order the beer battered fish tacos. You get two large tacos that are packed with toppings and flavor. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. To drink I ordered the Savage Era drink. It comes with mezcal, pineapple, coconut, and prickly pear. It was delicious and had a good amount of alcohol. If you come in a group the best thing to order is the patron or mezcal flights which give you several options. There is also a patron tree where they serve you different flavors of patron in their large bottles. This place was great. It was awesome to have a nice affordable place in the seaport area. This place is designed to be an Instagram hangout with fancy signage and bright pink colors everywhere. There is always a group of people taking photos here.
