Actually, ZERO - I always try to buy local and shop at City Mill even though the prices are higher. But I'm done with them. Wanted to return a couple of things with a copy of the receipt on my phone since I didn't have my wallet on me. Was told by the cashiers that I needed the receipt and the only one that could approve a credit was a manager "and they were all busy". I think customer service no longer exists. It's the small stuff that stick out to me More than ever. I was shopping alone, and not one person asked if I needed help. I was outside in the lumber area looking at rocks and sand and an employee right next to me didn't even bother to see if I needed help. Walking down an aisle and meeting up with an employee, I would think they would let me go first as I'm the customer, nope, he just stepped right infront of me, Twice! As difficult as it is to compete with big box stores, these little practices could go a long way to keeping a customer who is willing to pay higher priced to shop your store. Just so people are tracking. City Mill now requires a receipt with every return. No more looking up your credit card to identify your prior purchases. This will definitely decrease my likelihood of shopping here since I am the type of person who overbuys when I have a big project, then returns the unused remainder. At my part-time job, one of our electronic devices was giving us staff issues that was compromising customer service. We tried to troubleshoot with 2 different companies where we had to wait 1 week before we could have a technician come down and upgrade our outlet. But while I was troubleshooting, I did noticed there was some sort of connectivity issue so I decided to take a chance for a short term resolution. My immediate thought was to go to Walmart but then I wanted to support local, so I headed to City Mill (CM) on my way to my part-time job. Located between Hyundai Windward and Sherwin-Williams Paint Store, this was my very first time to step foot into this CM location as I usually go to the Nimitz location that is closest to my home. I have driven past here multiple times when I get off Kahekili Hwy when it's congested. I arrived on a Saturday morning to a semi-empty parking lot. I was impressed with the cleanliness of this store and started to look for my line chord. After going through multiple isles while reading their signs, I gave up and decided to ask an associate for assistance. I'm glad I did because he escorted me to the section and politely gave me my options (short or long chord). I didn't have leisure time to browse around as I was pressed for time, so I made my way to the cash register. It was quite long but was impressed on how quickly the line moved. It's interesting how the check out section has a great selection of Scooby snacks, and I was sure tempted to grab some chips (I was a weak spot for crunchy Cheetos) but had to refrain myself from doing so. LOL... In response to COVID, CM has online shopping where they offer in-store and curbside pick-up. They even have a couple of reserved, designated stalls. Overall, a very satisfied experience where I purchased what I was looking for. I appreciate the associate who assisted me. I wouldn't hesitate to come back to this CM and support local businesses. "Online Orders" If you plan on making an online order here at the Kaneohe Store on Kahuhipa, DON'T! Last year I made an online order for Garage Sale signs. Six Hours LATE, IT WASN'T READY!! I called, and nobody had a clue about my order. I was asked several questions... 1. Did you make the order at the Kaneohe store? 2. When did you make the order, today? 3. Did you pay for it? Because I can't find it. Then I was told to wait. They put me on hold for idk how long. This morning, I thought I'd give them another chance and made a two item order around 11am. Just before 3pm, I go online to check how long before any online order will be ready, and it says Two Hours! I call and speak to Roland. He gets my info asks me to hold because he's going to check on it. He comes back on the phone and says, "Hi, They're Pulling Your Order Right Now" This store is worse than Kailua Target's Curbside Pick Up! Yeah, Never doing online at this store ever again! The time it took, or would've taken had I not called them about it. I could've made an order at the Nimitz Store, or they Waialae store, gone there to pick up my order and be back home on three Windward side before my order would be ready at Kaneohe! Think Twice before you online order for pick up at Kaneohe City Mill. Rather, maybe I should just stick with Hardware Hawaii, or Home Depot Mapunapuna. I get better customer service there! read more

My brother and I went in recently looking for some help, and when I asked a worker a question, she completely ignored me. Talked to two associates, one who told me to go to paint because the item I was looking for wasn't in his section, the guy at paint said he'd get someone because he was dealing with his printer. That's why I like to shop at the Kaneohe location of City Mill. The staff are so helpful here. I had questions about home improvement and they came to my aid! When I asked about the return policy, they treated me with respect! I first shopped here when I moved to Kaneohe. My new little house needed a Christmas tree... City Mill was convenient, had free parking, and carried a great selection! When I sold my little house, City Mill had the cleaning supplies that I needed. City Mill is the best local hardware chain the state. They pride themselves on great customer service. Even though the stores are well organized with clear signage, there are always employees who are ready to go out of their way to help you find things you need. City Mill Kaneohe is located right behind Windward Mall. They have dedicated parking, easy in and out off the main street. It looks smaller than other locations, but it isn't. In the front is the checkouts, with common household items to the right. Promotional sale bins are along the main walkway, with furniture to the left. They have everything you could need for your next home project at good prices. If you want to stay local with your purchases, this is your best bet. read more

Love our local City Mill! Staff are friendly and helpful. We almost always find what we need. Parking at this location is easy and I've never seen the lot full. The checkout line is usually short and moves quickly. On our last visit, it started pouring while we were in the store with our toddler, and we hadn't brought an umbrella. After checking out, we waited inside while my husband went to get the car. Once he pulled up, one of the staff came to help us so I could focus on getting little one into the car. This has become our most favorite place since moving to O'ahu. My husband is very handy and very picky about his hardware stores. I call this place his mistress because I feel like he spends more time at CM than at home. Ha! NO seriously, they seem to have everything we need, it is very organized, the staff is helpful. Sometimes we find lumber a bit less expensive at Ace but that is the only thing worth checking out the other hardware stores for. I try to go to this location versus other hardware stores located closer to me because they do have a good inve tory. However, recently, I asked an employee where a specific item was. They told me what aisle and when I got there saw that it was under lock. OK, no biggie. I found the same employee a few minutes later and asked if I could get the item. They replied with "OH, I'm with a customer right now, sorry." Aggravating that I got sent to a locked cabinet, even more aggravating that no other employee was available. I brought one for size reference since I didn't have a measuring tape (I'm moving and packed it lol) I needed 5 of that size and an even bigger one that I had to just explain. Came here today and got great service from the trainee in the lawn department went above and beyond to find a price for us for an item that wasn't priced. But it all went downhill as soon as we went to the checkout went the cashier Gabriel first interaction no welcome no nothing just a cold stare, we noticed one of our kids that's 10 years old put some wooden shims in the basket and told him it was a mistake and that we didn't want it. It was then that he grabbed it throwing it in their return basket aggressively where he said to our 10 year old "you think this was funny" we said we didn't do it on purpose where he replied " he did!!" Pointing to our 10 year old. We ended our transaction where there was no thank you for shopping there nothing he didn't even offer a bag or even gather our things together. I purchased some items with cash ($131.69) on 8/7/23. I had to return the items on 8/12/23 because my parents already purchased the items. I was told because it was over $100 that I would be reimbursed with a check in a few days. I returned to the store after a week and talked to Mr. Kawamoto (store manager). He said they have a new system and that someone will get in touch with me about my money. This is 9/14/23 and still no call. I stopped by the store, talked with Mr. Kawamoto and waited approximately 20 mins. He comes back saying upper management is not answering and he refuses to give me my refund. Why should I have to go through this inconvenience to get reimbursed? I need to always keep a mental note or I am out $139 bucks. read more

Went to Kaneohe "Shitty Mill" on Wednesday, Nov 24, 2021. The line was very long, but only had two checkouts open. The helpers in the aisle were good, but the cashier (young local girl, in the cashier on the right side) was so rude. She kept yelling at me, "In the corner! In the corner! In the corner!," as I was trying to use my credit card. I looked at her with wide eyes and she yelled, "Tap your card in the corner!" I kept tapping and she yelled, "In the BOTTOM corner!" Whoa! I was so embarrassed as the other customers were in line watching . Finally I tapped my card correctly in the bottom corner. The cashier handed me the receipt without saying anything so I said, THANK YOU!" I am a grey-haired older woman and have lived a long time. This cashier needs to be reprimanded for horribly embarrassing me and others as in line as they watched this young, rude girl acting like an ass. read more

It's amazing that this place is still around. I support local businesses. However, I am not in the trades, so when I head to the hardware store, I need professional help. I went to Kaneohe City Mill and left with only regret. I needed to somehow fashion a temporary fix to a leaking pipe; plumber was expected tomorrow afternoon. The City Mill employee who I asked for help from said he was in plumbing. I explained my need. He shrugged his shoulders, said aisle 26 (or something like that), failed to provide specifics on what to look for, and walked away. He provided me with Zero help. This is the best Hardware store in Kaneohe! Plain and simple. I know this because I've been shopping there for years. Construction worker mode: There are probably couple of my Yelp friends who wondered what happened to me recently. Answer: Termite damage!! Yup I couldn't avoid it once I found it. I even found live ones wiggling around. Yikes!! So almost daily trips to Kaneohe City Mill were required. Termite spray, sand paper, patching material, treated wood, redwood, primer, paint, wood stain, scrapers, brushes and I needed a new 10 ft ladder. Inventory: This store carries nearly everything. They had everything that I needed. Occasionally I'd go to the big box hardware stores to shop around. But, City Mill is where I bought the most stuff. Excellent inventory selection. Service: There is one staff member for each dept and sometimes two. They are expected to stay in their area and be available to customers. I was there so frequently I overheard managers "coaching" the employees on customer service. "Customer service, customer service, customer service!!" And that exactly what I experienced. I didn't give them 5 stars only because they don't give workshops for customers. Otherwise they are great. Competition: I'm sure lots of people wondered if City Mill could survive the invasion of the mega hardware stores like Home Depot and Lowes. They seem to be doing just fine. They focus on having the important items and not every item. Plus good customer service and competitive prices. This place is so convenient. My husband just said...you know how many times we drive over to the big stores on the other side of the mountain and then we walk through city mill and what we needed was right there. So we wised up and always start at city mill. The people are friendly and helpful. They take a pride in being a community hardware store. There are the ladies at the front of the store who I swear recognize us (which sometimes is easy when we have been there three or four times that day). They don't have everything...but neither do the big stores in town. I like that if you ask someone how to do something they will be able to tell you how to do it...or find sown one who can. I just really enjoy the vibe here. Get things done with a comfortable atmosphere. So glad this city mill is in my neighborhood. read more

The 5 stars are for the Gentlemen part of the Back Staff in the red City Mill shirts- two older men, unfortunately I didn't get their names. NOT FOR THE PEOPLE SNAPPING AT ME IN THE FRONT OF THE STORE. THOSE PEOPLE GET 0 STARS. Geezes the grumpy people should not be the people you first meet at the store. The lady at the Key counter, the older cashier lady in the front of the store- try to relax even though it's busy. The young dude doing stocking in the first few aisles was also helpful but gave quite the glare when I said "Excuse me, can I have help finding an item?" I understand how a long day can bring down your day but there's no reason to cut the conversation short, or snap at me for asking a second question to clarify what I was looking for. It was weird how he ended glaring at me to being all meek to the person talking to him via his headset- he wasn't talking in it when I asked him the question. That's what all cashiers/sales associates do: they use their interpersonal skills and knowledge of the store's products/services- to effectively manage customers' needs and get them out the help they need to find the products that they need so the store the sales person works for can make money. I'll give credit for the person behind the Key counter calling help for me but she got impatient really fast with me & snapped when I asked for a second question to clarify what I was looking for, so the persons she talked to via her headset wasn't wasting their time looking for an item I didn't need. Which ended up happening anyways because she was like "Don't ask me! Just ask the back staff." With a glare. Maybe she's related to the dude in the front aisle that was doing stocking in Aisles 1-5. I ended up going to the back and getting actual help from the Back Staff persons. One mister was very nice, explained the benefits of two products comparable to the one I was looking for online and was able to compare them (costs and the different ways they work) for me. (Much appreciated Mister- I'm sorry I didn't catch your name though). Shout out to the "Back Staff" persons for being nice, friendly AND patient with me to help me search the item I needed. The store was busy in the front and some customers in the back area, but those guys were helping out people being patient and even joked around. To the people part of the front staff... Maybe try adding a 3rd cashier - what's the send of social distancing when you activate the two registers right next to each other without dividers between the customers. There's another register in the middle that wasn't used and you had a full line about 10/15 minutes. Staff is very service oriented and knowledgeable. However their pice match guarantee program doesn't make sense. In order for you so qualify for a price match besides the product being available, being the same exact product you need to provide a receipt to prove that you purchased the product at that price. Why would I go to a store buy one of the products and then to go to City Mill to purchase the same product at the same price? Why not just buy the product at the original store. City Mill will not accept the price from your phone even if you access the company's website and Dept it's the price and the same product. Are they behind technology wise? read more

City Mill in Kaneohe has been around for ages. It is your one stop shop for home improvement items- inside and out. It is close to Windward Dodge and between an apartment complex. The parking lot only has one entrance, so slow down. If you miss it, you'll have turn around or go around a very long block. The stalls can be a bit small or it may just seem that way because of the large work trucks that are from the patrons inside. The store is organized. There is a furniture area, bathroom area, lumber area; I think you get it. The store is very deep, so it is easy to meander around and spend a lot of time there. If you can't find what you are looking for, you can ask any one of the clerks. You can identify them by their red polo shirts with the City Mill logo on it. The clerks have always been very helpful when I've been in there. They have knowledge of products and always gives suggestions. Where there is a lot of items in the store, the plant section outside leaves a lot to be desired. There are few vegetable plants and some flowers. Not a very big selection. This specific location doesn't seem to have the room for it, concentrating on more building items than plant section. City Mill will always have its loyal customers. I know that it's getting harder to compete with the larger home improvement competitors that have cheaper prices and more variety, but City Mill has enough for the quick in & out. Also, the fact that there are only a few home improvement stores on this side of the island, definitely makes them a staple for locals. 59 read more

I was really unhappy coming here to look for my tree. I walked out to where the trees where, and out there were not one, not two, but THREE employees talking story. They ALL made eye contact with me and saw me looking for a tree. Keep in mind, I'm a 4'11 asian girl looking for a 6ft tree so um yeah..hello i'll probably need the help. But did i get it, NOPE! I want to compliment an employee, Dale, for his expertise. I just couldn't get my new ice maker connection to not leak. After having a leak develop after it was installed with a rubber hose replacing my existing copper pipe since I was told that it had the wrong fitting. When I tried tightening the fitting to stop the drip, it got worse, resulting in a continuous spray. I had to turn it off. So, after calling the installer, I learned the truth that the copper pipe was the same fit but they preferred plastic, which we all know, is the least reliable. Thank God the old fridge was still on the driveway. Now, after multiple tries to get both ends of the copper wiry pipe to stop leaking or spraying, using teflon tape, extreme tightening, multiple times, unsuccessfully, I gave up in tears. It helps to relieve the extreme frustration. Next day, I went to get advice from the plumbing department in City Mill, First employee gave me the wrong parts which I found out later. Went back for help again and Dale appeared. He had the same problem once and explained the entire process and solutions. Experience is the best teacher. So, after 3 attempts, I finally got that compression sleeve to fit properly. I'm holding my breath snd checking ever hour for leaks. Won't push fridge back until 24 hours to make sure and then have a party to celebrate success. If not, I'll have to cut the pipe and start again. All this could have been avoided if they just unscrewed the copper pipe from the old fridge and screwed it on the new fridge. It was always the wall connection that kept leaking, not the fridge connection. Go figure. PS: Just FYI, the other half is out of town. read more

He was friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. I explained what I needed it for and he suggested the perfect item. He cut them and even loaded my car.
