I think the draw was then what it is now - the seafood, beaches and lighthouses. I must say that, as I sit literally on the dock of this bay for our sunset cruise, we made lifetime memories on this four day trip. Maine is absolutely beautiful and delicious! We saw so many gorgeous sites - mountain views, beaches, walking trails and docks. The food was stellar - lobster rolls, clam cakes, blueberry pie, ice-cream and pancakes! I miss our home, my "Sir," Lovebirds and others, but am a bit verklempt knowing that tonight is it :(

The weather was definitely on the cooler and wetter side (bring a good rain jacket!), but the cozy atmosphere more than made up for it. Coffee shops, breweries, and restaurants were easy to get into, and the locals were friendly and laid-back. Overall, visiting Portland in the off season was a great choice for a quieter, more local experience. I'd happily go back in the summer to see it in full swing!
