This work is based on an earlier piece, "Laugh Now", commissioned for a Brighton night club in 2002. The new message can only be a reference to the 555 Gallery and their intention to sell part of a wall taken from the Packard Plant in Detroit. We couldn't believe it either, but when we heard from a friend of a friend that Banksy had again visited Detroit to make a statement about "commercialism, capitalism and the mechanics of the art market", we sent a request to Pest Control, a service that issues certificates on behalf of the artist. Despite their promise of a "lengthy and challenging process", they were quick to reply in this case. "Graffiti art has a hard enough life as it is - with council workers wanting to remove it and kids wanting to draw moustaches on it, before you add hedge-fund managers wanting to chop it out and hang it over the fireplace." "For the sake of keeping all street art where it belongs I'd encourage people not to buy anything by anybody unless it was created for sale in the first place." Like everything else in 2022, prices have increased but are on par with other cider mills I've visited this year. A dozen donuts are $10 and a gallon of cider is $10. The people who run the cider mill are friendly. I believe the owner came outside to say hello to us as we were leaving. The building is historic and there is a nice area around the side of the building to sit and eat and take photos.

Aptly named "Alley Art," artist Monte Fowler did a wondrous job turning this boring alley into his…read moreown art haven. The mural runs on both sides of the alley almost completely through the block. From the website photos you can see that it's very involved, intricate work. What makes this alley so special isn't just that it's had hundreds of hours of work done to it. Because of its high profile, many local artists, both tag artists and otherwise, have added their two-cents to the alley as well. There's a sub-alley that goes parallel to liberty that's completely covered with chewed bubblegum. There's plenty of stencils, as well as poems, stories, and other small pieces of art over top Folwer's work and on the cement. What also makes this alley worth a look is the musicians/performers that hang out here, panhandling. (If you're not scared of those sorts!) There's a flute player, an accordion player, and a horn player that frequent the alley. As well, there's a man dressed like Michael Jackson circa Thriller that dances in the alley with a boombox... not surprisingly, playing MJ's tunes. He's my absolute favorite. Give him and the alley a visit!

So, what on Earth is the deal with Frankenmuth? Well, it was settled in 1845 by 15 Germans hoping to convert the area's Native Americans. Today, their legacy is a shopping and dining tourist mecca with a decidedly German accent. Frankenmuth is about 90 miles north of Detroit and 75 miles northeast of Lansing. It measures just over 2.5 acres in size. Known as "Michigan's Little Bavaria," its famous for Bavarian-style architecture and rich German heritage. As we walked the sidewalks of Frankenmuth, we saw gorgeous flowers and landscaping everywhere. There was oom pa pa music playing and the smell of chocolate seemed to be everywhere. We were in town visiting from Detroit. It's a fun little town that is geared to tourists, but has…read morethe history to back it up so it's also great for history buffs. No wonder they can spend all the money to put up those billboards along the highways since it was bustling when I went during the three day weekend. I loved how everything was walkable, and the numbet of shops selling knickknacks. Everything was also very clean- there wasn't any litter despite packed streets. It was also the Frankenmuth dog bowl when I visited, and the organization was second to none. There were clear signs on where to park, as well as a great vendor area and restrooms. There were several events; we watched the Disc Dogs of Michigan and the International Dockdogs Competition. Both were very, very entertaining. There was plenty of room to set down a blanket and watch. The dogs there were all very well behaved too. I don't have a dog, but I am seriously considering it after watching the events.

I watched them perform on the water in Bay City during the Pig Gig, which is an amazing picnic of pork debauchery complete with competeing BBQ sauce. I am big on barbeque. This is because my Uncle Willy would make the most amazing barbeque on his grill, and I forced my mom to figure out how he did it. I generally just love trying barbeque and then coming to the conclusion that my family makes the best. Some of the selections at the Gig are pretty good, but I just suggest finding something you like and sticking with it because massive amounts of pork eating is not only messy, but gross. There is a jalapeno eating contest and farm animal rides. There is also the mandatory has-been performer who plays out on the lake. I think I lucked out getting to watch Jefferson Starship. We built this city, baby!

I'm a pretty big rib fan, and I've had ribs better than most of the places that are at this festival. however, it's nice to get away on the river and cool back with a cold one and watch eddie money or something (i think he's the entertainment for 2008).
