I recently attended the Conference USA Championship (CUSA) game hosted here. The game was between…read moreLiberty University and New Mexico State University. The game was great and lively!! Fun Times! Great atmosphere and great 50 yard line seats made for a great evening despite the brief light rain. Lots of concessions available. You can even order ahead on their app and pickup. I thought this was a great option to avoid a long wait. Restrooms were spacious and clean. Staff I encountered were super friendly and helpful with any questions. This is a great stadium to catch the Flames in action!!!

Virginia Tech, Lane Stadium may have the best college game day atmosphere and team entrance in the…read morestate of Virginia but Liberty University, Williams Stadium is by far my favorite stadium in the entire state of Virginia. it only seats about 25,000 people, and it rarely gets full but the technology and renovations that the stadium has received is mind blowing and unbelievable. They always had fireworks and fire effects throughout all of these years but now they added synchronized lights, brand new padded seats on the entire home side with an entire club level and multiple luxury suites, And a general admission turf berm area and private cabanas behind the south end zone where the marching band sits. Their team entrance is very similar to Virginia Tech's In which they would have a celebrity show up on the video board and lead the crowd in a similar chant, but instead of LET'S GO! HOOKIES! It's the letters L on one side of the stadium and U on the other side and after a few times, it will queue the team intro but every year the intros are extremely different then having them play the same intro like VT but that is usually their tradition is having the crowd jump up and down to Enter Sandman. But the intro videos along with the team running out still gives me chills because the music is very cinematic and theatrical rather then being all chaotic and heavy metal like and it's even more theatrical during night games when the lights turn off and our synchronized to the music. The tradition for the flames football is four quarters fury which is our fourth-quarter moment. During this, the lights will turn off during night games and the entire crowd will turn their cell phone flashlights on and waved them around as they sing along to don't stop believing by Journey all while the mascot and cheerleaders T-shirts out of air cannons into the crowd. Every time it never gets old and just seeing a good crowd being able to do that gives me chills. Now the best part of attending a football game is that tickets are extremely affordable and are usually around $35 on their main ticketing website and liberty university students get into the student section for 100% free without the need of them purchasing a ticket in which that is the main reason why I'm majority of the fans are liberty students and the student section is located on the visitor side and utilizes the entire lower bowl section and regardless of how packed the stadium is that entire section is always full of loud and enthusiastic students during every single game and they are very entertaining to watch as they do a lot of crazy stuff like having their mascot crowd surf while he rides an inflatable raft. I honestly think that William Stadium is the most underrated CFB Division 1 stadium in the entire country. And besides, their football team is the best college team in the entire state of Virginia.

I have gone to several theatrical events since I was 10 years old. I have loved almost all of them…read more But as a Virginian I only have had only one favorite which is Landmark Theater in Richmond. Last night was the first time I attended Academy Theater in Lynchburg and I now have a second favorite! I am so thankful it went so well as it was my husbands very first theatrical event. We also have tickets to the Nutcracker and he looks forward to going! He was actually interested in going to another event besides both of those. I think he is on his way to being a theatrical junkie! He said he liked the screen that translated italian to english so he could follow and understand what was going on. He and I both were also glad that when the Director??? welcomed everyone that she did not make any political affiliations which was very welcoming. 10 stars to Academy Theater!!

I've been attending Endstation summer productions (both at Poplar Forest and at Old City Cemetery)…read morefor two summers now, and I recommend their productions. For one thing, I just love community theater. There's something fresh about it that you just don't get at an overpriced Broadway production (and believe me, I know - as a former NYC-er, I've been to my share of shows on and off Broadway). Plus, the venues for summer productions have included outdoor spots like Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest estate, for Shakespeare-inspired productions two years running, and Old City Cemetery for 'Our Town' (the grounds of which lent the production an unparalleled poignancy). I stop short of 5 stars, because it's not always been clear whether there will be refreshments available, and at the most recent Poplar Forest production, there was only a booth with hard cider -- no nonalcoholic options at all. But all in all? A great time. Bring a lawn chair, your own snacks and beverage, and slather on some bug repellent (it's summertime in central Virginia, after all....can we say no-see-ums and skeeters? We sure can), and bring something with which to fan yourself, if southern humidity makes you sweat. And then settle in and enjoy the show. And wait for the unexpected magic of fireflies coming out in the deepening twilight in the second half of the show. Better than footlights at any other venue you've been to, I'm willing to bet.

A walking path goes past a number of rose bushes and there are a few benches. There is also a great view of the James River valley from here. The caption reads, "Mr. Elder's Rose Garden. Lawrence Lloyd Elder (1896-1964) was a valued employee of the City of Lynchburg for over 34 years. His special domain was gardening and his responsibility the greenhouses in Miller Park where the city's flowers were raised for use in the parks. Later he was assigned the care of nearby municipal properties, including Monument Terrace, the Court House, the Post office and the roses in the Confederate Cemetery. In the adjoining remote area he also tended his personal garden of roses, which brought much pleasure to the many city employees in the area. In 1986, twenty-two years after Mir. Elder's death, the Blue Ridge Rose Society, in cooperation with the City of Lynchburg, undertook the revitalization of the garden as a Bicentennial Project. The Garden now serves as a depository of old Lynchburg Roses, all of which are known to have been grown and loved by the people of Lynchburg during its 200 year history." American Civil War Museum @ Appomattox, VA…read more This place is a gem for people that love history! Cleburne's coat that he was killed in at the battle of Franklin had me in absolute aweeee! Thank y'all for preserving these artifacts for the people to enjoy. I would highly recommend this place! On April 8, 1865, Lee's Army of Northern Virginia paused its march a mile from the small village of Appomattox Court House. Lee intended to resupply there before heading to Lynchburg, Virginia, and then south to Danville, Virginia. Unanticipated was the arrival of Union cavalry coming from the south under Gen. Philip H. Sheridan's command. That evening Union Brig. Gen. George Armstrong Custer successfully led some of the cavalry against the Confederate supply trains at the nearby Appomattox Station. Although shaken, Lee hoped to break through to Lynchburg the next day. On the morning of April 9, Lee ordered his cavalry, under the command of Gen. John B. Gordon, to attack Sheridan's cavalry, which had blocked the Richmond-Lynchburg Stage Road. Lee commanded an army of nearly 27,000 soldiers, which paled in comparison to Grant's force of some 63,000 troops, but he still intended to force his way through Union lines. The Confederate cavalry initially held their own and even succeeded in driving the Union horsemen from their position atop a nearby ridge. However, Gordon saw thousands of Union troops quickly approaching and sent word to Lee that his position was hopeless unless the infantry supported them. Lee's infantry, however, was engaged with Grant's Army of the James, which had approached the Confederates from the west under cover of night. Faced with no route of escape to Lynchburg, Lee agreed to negotiate terms of surrender. In a statement about her husband, Mary Custis Lee remarked that "General Lee is not the Confederacy." Her assessment was spot on, for the Confederacy still lived. Gen. Joseph E. Johnston's army--the next largest after Lee's still at war--was operating in North Carolina. Lt. Gen. Richard Taylor controlled forces in Alabama, Mississippi, and part of Louisiana. Lt. Gen. Edmund Kirby Smith's men were west of the Mississippi, and Brig. Gen. Stand Watie was in command of an Indian unit in the Far West. Nathan Bedford Forrest had men in Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi.

The Liberty Indoor Track Complex provides a great experience for any track athlete. Recently…read morerefurbished, the track makes you feel very quick and bouncy. I have run both my Mile and 800 personal records in my first races on this track. The coaches do an excellent job in managing the facilities through discipline and labor. Furthermore, Richard Mast and others clean the complex exquisitely, never failing to make the place look beautiful. Whether the vibrant red color, or the pictures on the walls, the complex is a sight for any sports fan to see. It is well organized with bathrooms for athletes and competitors, sets of bleachers, a team area and great concessions. The track provides an excellent environment for fans but also the athletes themselves- providing not only a banked hydraulic track, but also a weight room as well as a warmup track for a variety of activities. The Liberty Track and Field team and their fans are very blessed with this amazing facility, and thanks be to those who keep it the beautiful sight that it is.

nice little mom and pop shop in central Virginia directly on the beaten path but still a…read moresignificant ways out of the way regardless. after dropping the cutest of chicks off at CLT to go to FLA I have the rest of the afternoon to try to stay out of trouble... it's just a couple hours to get here and I get to meet some new faces and go roundy round for a couple bucks. the raceway is currently housed in a simple building on highway 460 just west of Appomattox with SLOT CAR RACING spelled out in 24-inch letters. yeah, totally subtle... current tracks include road, oval, and straight line. I will generally drive the road courses when I'm out because it's all driver-vs-track with up to seven other contests going on at roughly the same time... high banks mean high speed and the Gerding King road course is both. even the main straight is tilty! thought my car was going to slide off the track when I set it down on orange; it was moving sort of slideways and hanging on the guide as I started my first lap because the tilt is that aggressive! felt totally out classed and way out of my league for a long minute... but that brief bit of uncertainty makes Mach 1 stand out for me and the need to stay fast all the way around builds character - the skill part is knowing when to "fast" and when to brake. drags and ovals are generally better with a couple other racers to taunt and tease and are usually populated by a dedicated and friendly group on race day. circle track racers are a peaceful and happy people, but like all 'cults' it can take up a good deal of your time and resources ;-) Mach 1 has what it takes to get you on the track and keep you there: they have rentals to get you started or you can pick up ready to drive or build-it-yourself cars in your choice of styles and colors, plus parts and accessories to personalize whatever it is you decide to run. I have a basic factory built that can mostly keep up. I'm not likely to win any serious competition but I'm on the track here and there and elsewhere primarily for the adventure...
