We noticed establishments in Aachen are very proud of how long they've been around. However, St. Nickolaus humbly dates itself from when its gothic monastery church was erected in 1327 for the Franciscan Order rather than when its church ministry was first mentioned in 1005. The church has been heavily renovated since then, especially after WWII. Its parish was merged with nearby St. Follian in 1967. The outside doesn't even begin to hint to the beauty inside. The intricate wood and marble carvings found throughout and fanning out from the alter. The pulpit looks so regal and decorative and elegant enough for even the Pope.
