I'm trying to understand why a minor, a 13-year-old child would be flagged with an SSSS (Secondary…read moreSecurity Screening Selection) for her flight from FRA to SEA, but that is what happened for our flight on Condor Airlines/Thomas Cook Airlines on 29 March 2019. We approached the Condor agents to scan our boarding passes, passports in hand, and was told that we needed paper boarding passes instead of our mobile passes, and pulled to the side while a second agent printed them for us. As she scanned our new passes, my daughter was told she needed additional screening. At the same time, I was told our boarding passes need to get "red stamps," and a third Condor agent took us to get the stamps; what I didn't realize was that was the agent was getting me stamps (to my right) another agent took my minor daughter to the Fraport security for screening. You know what's not acceptable? Taking my minor child for an extra random security screening WITHOUT a parent and refusing to let me go with her. That's right Condor, essentially stole my child and handed her to the Fraport without my permission, without an additional adult, with only she and the security person. In a foreign country. Between the airline and the Police and Fraport at Frankfurt Airport, my 13-year-old minor daughter was taken from me for a random extra security screening before boarding our plane for Seattle. As I realized what was happening, had happened I demanded from the Condor agent stamping my boarding passes to see my daughter immediately. I was told she was being screened and I asked where. He pointed to left across the way and said, "Over there," and I said I wanted to see my child now." We had a few second heated discussion about the fact that you cannot just take my minor child without an adult, at which point the second agent turned to the agent I was talking to, looked back to me and said, "she's a minor?" I said, "Yes, she's 13, she's a child!" The agents looked at each other and swiftly walked me and my other two children over to the Fraport security area. I asked to see my daughter. I was told I could not. I started asking a slew of questions about policies, why she was being screened without an adult, if there was more than one person with her, etc. I was not allowed to go with her or assured that there was more than one person with her (which there was not) When I demanded to see and then be given back my daughter, I was told that it was the airline's fault, then my country's fault, then TSA's fault, and none of this was "Germany's" fault and that there was nothing I could do and I wouldn't get her back or see her until "they were done with her." I was told that I could tell the airline to complain to TSA since they were the ones who "demanded" the extra screening. I asked to talk to the police to get my child back and file a report if the security people would not give me back my child. They told me the police couldn't help as this was an airline matter (and apparently one of the men standing there was allegedly a German police officer). I made as big a deal as I felt I could short of getting detained. Five men and one woman Fraport agents, two Condor agents at the Fraport area, one police officer, all telling me I can't see my minor child for no other reason than an extra security flag? I don't know what the minor/parental rights are in Germany (I'm still trying to research them) but I'm guessing they would be similar to the U.S. Regardless, how does a minor child get flagged with an SSSS, separated from the parents, and disregarded as having rights? Why are we allowing minors to be separated from parents and screened one-on-one in a private area by security personnel? In what civilized country does that seem safe or proper? In what policy is it allowed that we do this without a parent or guardian present, that we don't even tell a parent where the child is being taken? We take the child without saying anything to the parent and intentionally try to distract the parent to take the child with our consent or understanding of the situation? I need to understand that this will not happen again to another child. It's unacceptable on every level.
