So you can certainly get a lot of what you need here. They've just started charging for parking but at 1 euro an hour it isn't too onerous and the Luas stops right outside!

One of the chemists also has lovely gift things. It has a zumo in case you're doing your shopping a little hungover and sometimes there's a health-food/nut stall at the door. There's also a hairdressers. Merrion Centre covers all the bases and all of the "just-in-case" things that might occur to you that you need while doing your weekly shop. Parkings free with a maximum stay of 2 hours.

Having never been to the country, I was unfamiliar with most of the shops, but I took note of the few I recognized (Boots, TK Maxx, Claire's.) We were momentarily tempted to try the Chinese restaurant upstairs but thought better of it. Restrooms are also located on the uppermost level. Not super bustling, seemed to be going the way of most malls. And although I wasn't taken by any store in particular, I enjoyed the structure's design & seeing what a Dublin shopping centre has to offer.

My previous stars were when parking was free and I could barely find a working toilet in the place. Their timing couldn't be worse with swingeing price increases and with Christmas just on the horizon. Put bluntly they are just greedy bastards. They say and are being disingenuous that their charges are aimed at encouraging shoppers to use public transport - no they are just chisellers. Who is going to do the weekly shopping to hop on a bus with bags of potatoes, carrots and a few litres of milk. Their centre operations manager who undoubtedly will have a free parking space has also confirmed that they will charge disabled car drivers. These good folks usually need more time to drive, park, manoeuvre and generally get around. I guess many of them would also avoid public transport to go shopping and I suspect the centre will lose footfall here. What's worst of all they are charging staff to park - apparently not a full daily charge but enough to screw over and rifle the pockets of the working poor. What the hell is wrong with us - taking from the poor to give to the rich. It's government policy in the UK now. They've given me a darn good reason never to return and for that I am grateful. I imagine I won't be alone.

It does have an added benefit (depending on your perspective!) of being surrounded by outlets and bigger retail parks as well, so you can do your clothes shopping in the centre, then get your house-y stuff in the bigger ones on the outskirts. If you're into getting all your shopping done at once, and don't mind shopping centres, to be honest, it's not half bad. It does seem to have a greater selection of more 'value' shops than Liffey Valley and Dundrum if you're on more of a budget, which is good. Pro Tip: I have found on two occasions that all the carparks were full except the multi-story one on the Debenhams / M&S side, so if you're having problems finding somewhere to park, give that area a goo.
