A little disorganized once you walked in with no server to tell you where to go or how to grab a seat but the food made up for that. The flatbread is warm and fresh. We had to wait a good 20mins for a table for 5ppl. A nice variety of items of Spanish tapas to enjoy and we tried to order some recommended items. All were a hit. The chicken was awesome, super juicy and tender. The steak was really good, it needed a little more salt in my opinion. Only reason this is not a 5 is because it takes a long time to get your food but that's because everything is made to order. I also didn't love the sauces but that's just a personal preference. Walking in, it looks like a mini butcher shop and is a little disorienting. Go through the big metal door to get to the actual restaurant (it is not a sliding door like I thought btw, please pull). For food, we ordered the coal roasted baba ganoush with flatbread, fried halloumi, and 1/2 pound of chicken thigh and 1/2 pound of hanger steak. You could really taste the roasted flavor in the baba ganoush and the flatbread was delicious, very soft and well seasoned. I wish the flatbread was bigger! Fried halloumi was my fav dish. Neither my friend nor I have been here before or knew what to expect, but we came out pretty full though! This was on a Saturday evening around 5:35pm, and we were a little confused when we got inside; there was a kitchen with a bunch of the meats that they offer on their menu. You have to go in one more door deeper to see the fully packed dine-in area and bar with bright lighting and a design that looks like the inside of an auto repair shop. My friend and I waited about 10 or so minutes to finally get seated, and even then we weren't immediately sure on what to get. Stuff here is on the much pricier end but it definitely doesn't stack as much compared to an AYCE meat buffet when split in half. We decided on the following: - Flatbread and dip: our dip was the hummus with zaatar, chili pepper and olive oil. The flatbread was big enough for us to split it, and this dip was very creamy with some hits of lemon and spice. - Lamb ribs: probably the biggest winner of our meal here. Richly flavored with barbecue sauce and sitting on top of a big bed of labneh (a creamy kind of cheese) that complemented the taste, and could have also been used as dip for our flatbread. - Hanger steak: rich, juicy, medium-rare and smoky. It was so tender to chew and held in so much flavor. - Pork collar: earthy, a little spicy and pretty salty yet nicely and evenly flavored. Also tender in the right way. Server was very accommodating with us since it both our first times here, and answered our questions about some of the meats and flatbread dip choices. Okay YUM! I went here with a friend for a quick happy hour and it was delightful. When I walked in, I thought I was in the wrong spot. The kitchen and meat fridge are in the front area so it kind of looks like storage or an office. Turns out it was right and the lovely restaurant was behind a big metal door. The restaurant is lovely. Custom art on the walls, colored chairs, and a huge window where you can see planes flying over the building. We just wanted a few bites, so got the carrots and halloumi. WOW! These carrots were insane. The walnuts and dates made them such a treat and don't even get me started on the sauce. The halloumi was perfect and over a lightly seasoned pile of bean sprouts and pea shoots. Delightful. Both tasted very in season and perfect to me. For drinks, I got the beet marg. I like Ciudad, really I do. There were just a few things that put me off. I liked it enough that I'll try it again and see how it fares. The entry is underwhelming, it is hard to tell that the steel plate with the name on the door really is the door to the restaurant and the host is inside that door. The staff at the outside grill told us, so now we know. The decor is nothing fancy, but that does not speak to the flavors of the food, wow! We were feeling adventurous and decided to take some home, so we ordered 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, and a dessert. We ordered the Strawberry Shrub and the other non-alcoholic drink. They were both very good. We got the Flatbread And Dip with the extra 2 sauces and an extra flatbread. We had a hard time deciding which of the three sauces is our favorite, the hummus was good hummus, the labneh was very good, but for me the baba ghanoush flavor was excellent on that warm flatbread. We foolishly also got the Saffron Cauliflower, while delicately seasoned and cooked to perfection, we were starting to get full already and did not finish it either! From the grill we got the the Chicken and the Hanger Steak. The flavors and textures, especially with the addition of some chimichurri, of the chicken was heavenly. The hanger steak was rare which is too red for me, the waiter graciously took it back to get it a little closer to medium rare. (It would be nice if they asked how we would like it cooked.) The problem is that the expeditor took it back to the wrong table so they wound up having to make our meal over. Great chicken the second time around again, but still rare steak. We decided to not try again. I'll grill it at home, it won't be the same, but it'll be good! For dessert we got the Olive Oil Cake which comes with a spoonful of the same yogurt the labneh is made with, but spiced differently. I thought the combination was delicious, my wife was not overly impressed. We didn't go home hungry, just a little disappointed. But wow what a nice ambiance! Good buzz, full but not crowded. We got seated in the room furthest back, it was a little less noisy and perfect for what we wanted (good conversational volume). Service was personal and quick. We got our drinks within minutes and the food started arriving dish by dish shortly after. We are too much! But everything was just soooo delicious! The flavor combinations were amazing like the Saffron Cauliflower that had shallots with dried apricot and date molasses. There are a variety of sauces available (1 for $3; 3 for $8): Chimichurri, Harissa, Smoked Yogurt, Burnt Honey, Black Garlic Aioli, and Mojo Rojo. We ordered the Chimichurri, Burnt Honey, and Black Garlic Aioli. I liked being able to create my own flavor combinations, but everything off the girl was cooked to perfection and laid out beautifully for my friend and I to share. The amount of food we ordered was more than enough to feed us. The only thing I struggled with was finding the entrance to Ciudad. The food here was great! The first room was deceptive; it really looked like there wasn't going to be seating, but there was right past the door. We ordered flatbread with the flight of dips (wow those were so good; two of us loved the baba ganoush most, and the other two loved the labneh), cauliflower (amazing), and peppers (the description said sweet peppers, but they were quite spicy!!). Then we added about a pound of meat total, half of steak, quarter pork collar, and quarter chorizo. The food was SO good. Aside from that, the front house seems a mess with inability to check in at reasonable intervals on their tables. If you'll have your patron wait 20 minutes for a second cocktail that cost $15 minimum, get a new manager. What an amazing find in the heart of the trendy Georgetown walking district. Forget what you think about tapas, as Ciudad puts others to shame with their delicately cooked skewers of tender proteins over an open charcoal grill. Unlike your traditional Spanish tapas places, Ciudad's influences boldly travel from Spain to Portugal to Morocco and even Greece. The fun of Ciudad is mixing different grilled skewers with unique vegetarian appetizer to truly have an encompassing Mediterranean tasting experience. We opened with a warm and soft flatbread that comes with a choice of dips from hummus to a yogurt based dip, but we chose the super smokey baba ganoush which was a perfect intro to the grilled delicacies to come. The firm chorizo from Olympia was a superstar with snappy casing enveloping the most succulent, smokey chorizo bites. The grilled veges (a combo of eggplant, peppers, shishito peppers, red onion and zucchini) were crisp and charred to perfection. And the delightful dukkah spice which is ground nuts, sesame seeds, cumin derived from Egypt was delectable. The pork shoulder was drizzled with a vibrantly citrus chimichurri sauce. And the perfectly medium rare hangar steak with a moruno dry rub (saffron and cumin forward) was melt in your mouth fantastic. Each skewer order comes with a handful of organic salad greens with a refreshing lemony vinegar drizzle. The ambiance was wonderfully Spanish from the music to the artistically painted walls. The room is not large and maybe has seating for 12 parties of four. Recommended on the weekend to get there close to their 11:30 opening time. I love their charcoal grilled proteins (steak, shrimp, chorizo, chicken, squid) and their delicious veggie appetizers (their cauliflower and the carrots are delicious!) and fresh light salad. It's a mix of Spanish, Greek, and Mediterranean depending on what you order. I love their sauces you can purchase on the side, it can change up your dish with little flavor punches. Our favorites are the smoked yogurt, chimichurri (awesome on the bbq grilled shrimp), and the mojo rojo (smokey and perfect on the steak). I also have a thing for their roasted beet margaritas and the carrot margarita. Our new go to for before or after an event in Seattle.
