I had a bad experience with A to Z Concrete & Fence. I had them build a new driveway, turnkey, and…read moregave them half of the total cost upfront. They eventually got around to building the driveway so I paid them the balance. They were supposed to pay for the concrete it was included in the bid that they gave me. I was contacted about 60 days after completion of the driveway with a letter via certified mail from Live Oak Ready Mix in Aransas Pass. The letter indicated that they have put a lien on my driveway because A to Z Concrete and Fence never paid them for the concrete. I did not even know where the concrete was purchased because it was not my responsibility. I paid for a turnkey job to a general contractor who turned out to be shady.

South Texas fencing installed my parent's chain-link fence five years ago. Recently a house was…read morebuilt next to them and it was discovered that the fence STF built was 6 feet over the property line. Sherrel tried to give me some lame excuse about how he wasn't there when my fence was installed, and that the contract says it is the property owner's responsibility to tell them where the property lines are located. I called Civil Corp. and they informed me that they had surveyed all these properties out here back in 2007. Therefore, the markers were there when they installed my fence. Also, since he didn't work there, how does he know the correct property lines were not given? They charged my parents $4800 to move the fence to the correct property line. Personally, I feel they shouldn't have paid for any of it. They did offer to split the cost with the company but the owner refused and only dropped the price from $5200 to $4800. Many people suggested I take them to smalls claim court, but my parents did not want to deal with that. I think it is despicable that this company would take advantage of an elderly couple in that manner.

My stated goal to them was to minimize bugs getting in. The storm doors have been a problem from day one. The rear door doesn't open from the outside without a fight most of the time and does not close correctly. The front door doesn't close properly either. Both doors have significant gaps at the top and they do not appear to fit the door frame. I have contacted South Texas 5 times concerning the issues with the doors to no avail. The one time a South Texas employee came out to look at them, he acknowledged the problem but said he would talk to Phillip. Since then, all I've heard were "crickets". I have had another contractor out to look at the doors but, since South Texas supposedly has a 5 year warranty (per Phillip John's at South Texas), I believe it is their responsibility to resolve the issues.

I am the owner the property pictured above. We hired Keen Decorative Concrete and Kinetic Pools to…read morereplace the deck around our pool earlier this summer. I have waited more than three months for them to come back and repair the damage they did to the pool. Some of the coping stones around the pool were cracked by the expanding concrete, broken completely in half (see attached pictures). This occurred because of uncontrolled expansion in the new concrete. Keen did not tie the rebar into the wire mesh construction cloth they laid under the concrete. They laid the rebar and wire mesh directly in the sand underlying the concrete, then walked on it while they were pouring the concrete completely negating the reinforcement that the rebar and mesh were intended to provide. They did not use stools to lift the rebar and mesh up out of the sand into the concrete. They did not use the correct drain system to allow for a reasonable pitch of the concrete deck, they did not use the correct membrane between the new concrete and the existing coping edge of the pool, they did not allow enough space for expansion of the new concrete, they did not install any expansion joints in the entire pour. The new deck continues to heave and expand causing shifts up to an inch at the junction of the coping and the new concrete (see attached pictures). Because Keen did not use the proper membrane and spacing between the existing coping and the new concrete they had to grind a groove between the two and then fill that with a sealant which has already failed (see attached pictures) Additionally the finish has already deteriorated, leaving faded colors and a slippery surface. There are already cracks in the surface. I hired them because they were less expensive than the competition and they talked like they knew what they were doing. Don't make the same mistake I made. The man showed up at my house. He took my directions, but he put up a part of a fence of mine…read morecrooked. He did it in the dark mainly. He did what I asked him to do as far as taking the fence down and stacking panels in a place, and I paid him very well... Probably more than I should have, but I respected him, because it was so hot outside that I felt he earned it at that time. When I needed his help again to move them and to possibly take the pickets off the panels, he said sorry he couldn't help me and I had to get out there by myself and just do the work myself. We had a disagreement and he called me an F- ing B., when I texted him for help. Other than that, I guess his work is OK, if you like being talked to like that . He likes to talk about his husband all the time and I prefer to keep personal matters out of business relationships, but I guess that's something he likes to do. I will have to say he shows up on time and he does do what he's supposed to do usually. Oh well, like I said, his work is fair.
