The oysters with lemon myrtle & akvavit are brilliant, my new favourite way to have them. The pork belly main was good, though not exceptional.Nothing at all wrong with the pork belly, it's just the other courses exceeded expectations and so the main paled in comparison. The vanilla & lemon balm cheesecake is worth killing for. I interrupted my wife, a dangerous thing to do, and exclaimed "you've got to try this". I cant remember ever having that reaction before. I instantly regretted it when she started eating my cheesecake.
The table service was perfect, and really makes you realise what you've been missing in other restaurants.
The building itself is a cute yet slightly posh environment, without being pretentious. Comfortable, yet a bit special. It's perfect for a romanic dinner.
Prices are certainly up there, but what you'd expect for this type of restaurant.
The only down side was the portion size. The main bordered on being an entree. And the desert was far too small (remember I said it's worth killing for? I was tempted to arm myself with a bread knife and storm the kitchen). I'm not a huge guy (80kg) and while I didn't go home hungry, I wasn't far from being peckish. Portions are definitely girl sized. Had the portions been a bit bigger I'd have given this restaurant five stars.
We will be going back to work our way through the rest of the menu, even at the risk of me having to fill up on a cheese sandwich when we get home. read more
