Another librarian, young woman (nose ring, combat boots, shoulder length hair) could use lessons in speaking to her elders (i'm 60 & found her to be quite condescending). When i complained about people from a healthcare company on cell phones in the QUIET/NO CELL PHONES AREA, she snarled, "GO BUY HEADPHONES!". Ummmm, how about you do your job, ask them not to be on their phones, or find them a space in an unoccupied meeting room? You're lucky to have a town job. Previously, i have been accosted by 2 librarians for moving 2 chairs together, and having one shoe off. My socked foot has a lot less germs than folks wearing flip flops, crocs, and open toed sandals !! I feel singled out because i am here almost every day. Perhaps i should be waving a sign, or wearing a shirt PROUD TO BE..... Isn't clark a stigma free community? Isn't clark a safe community? I've seen THOSE signs on the police department door, the municipal building door, a few businesses' doors, etc., yet i don't feel safe, nor welcomed, at the clark library as a straight, heterosexual, English speaking, White woman. Perhaps the westfield or scotch plains libraries are more accommodating? The acoustics are strange here. There is an open atrium from the first to the second floor. The noise travels up to the second floor quiet area. The kids' area should be in the basement instead of taking up half of the first floor. You can hear every scream, block dropped, chair moved, etc. The check out desk is behind glass. You can hear word the librarians say to the public, their phone ringing, etc.

Westfield Town of - bring money to feed the meters or it's gonna cost you

One other yelper has reviewed the "Town of Westfield" with a comment about the parking meters, so…read moreI'll add my 2¢. This is not about the fire department, it concerns law enforcement. I've lived here most of my life, and have seen many, many businesses come and go in the downtown shopping district. This town has always tried to be an "upscale" shopping destination, and the commercial real estate rents reflect that. The result is that most of the long-standing, mom-and-pop businesses have been forced out, leaving empty storefronts, many of which have been vacant for years. You'd think the Planning Board would try to encourage business, but they're so desperate for tax revenue that they've taken the opposite approach, employing an army of Brownshirt "Parking Enforcement" goons to tax the ass of any driver with the temerity to stop to buy something or get something to eat. I found myself out and about in a sudden blizzard, and needing a quick cup of hot coffee. I parked in Lot #4 behind the coffee shop, a municipal lot that accomidates 142 cars. There were fewer than 10 cars there. Basically, it was deserted. Damn, I didn't have any change, so I ran to the store, grabbed the cup of coffee, and hurrried back to my car in ten minutes flat. You know where this is going, right? A $32 parking summons was already buried under the snow on my windshield. AYFKM! They wait for targets, and as soon as you walk away from your car, even for one minute, they materialize out of thin air and pounce. A fine way to encourage shoppers to patronize desperately struggling local businesses, especially during a snow storm and a coronavirus pandemic. Not! Do not even think of parking your car in downtown Westfield without a pocket full of quarters. And make damn sure you take your receipt from the pay station. I've been ticketed even with paying (!) and needed evidence to prove it in traffic court. A better idea is to shop in nearby towns like Cranford and Scotch Plains, where parking is free, or a 15-30 min. grace period is offered.

Unfortunately two of the kiosks did not work in that they would not accept change. I ended up paying $2 for a short parking stint when it should have cost a lot less.
