Please Read before you buy a car from Kevin Clarke of Herts. Then make up your own mind it could save you a lot of money and Grief We bought a Kia Carens 53 plate it was sold to us with some service history, the car was priced under £1000 Kevin Clarke stated that it was a good car and had been checked over by a mechanic as All of his cars have a 64 point check done, but as i later found out He wont let you see it. anyway we bought the car on the 14/01/14 with a bit of discount for cash. over the next 3 weeks, 7 faults were found on car which included, window washers ,steering wheel shakes , Knocking noise., boot catch fails, rear wiper wont work, rear screen does not heat and difficulty starting when cold. Kevin says bring it in i will fix that, but before a day is sorted for these repairs to happen the worst fault possible happens The STEERING COMPLETELY FAILS, it locks up suddenly, totally and utterly, this happens whilst it is being driven down a local street and the car is stuck steering left at 30 mph. By sheer luck and emergency breaking the car is brought to a stop on someones drive. and misses all other cars, garden walls and pedestrians. shaken by the near miss and with the car now stationary on some poor persons driveway we are unable by pulling or pushing to move the steering wheel, it feels as though it has completely locked in this position after some 30 or so seconds we turn off the engine, so we can ring Kevin. We cannot get an answer and we cannot abandon the car on some poor persons driveway so try starting the engine and again moving the steering, and it suddenly becomes free, so slowly very slowly it is taken back to Clarkes of Herts . it is now the 06/02/14 this is day 23 of our ownership and Here is where it all starts. No worries mate, we are told they will fix it all and we will have it back for you in 48 hours.48 hours later we ring and are told we have not done anything yet it will go in to the garage first thing Monday which is another 48 hours away. so tuesday afternoon we ring and are told it is still here but will go into the garage this afternoon. Then on thursday Kevin leaves a message on our phone. Car is still in garage, but they have done Full power steering change, pipes have been cleaned and everything is working, i will get a full report for you as you requested. Saturday 15/02/14 we go to get the Car back. It is immediately obvious that Nothing has been done, the steering pump, Rack and all pipes are still dirty, no new parts,no finger marks in the dirt, no-one has even touched the cars steering at all. all the other faults are still faulty as well. Kevin tries to avoid us but I really don't like being lied to and as it is such a dangerous life threatening fault things get heated until we play back his message, then he immediately calms down and changes his story to what i meant to say was that the oil had been completely changed. and he does not have any report from the Garage but he says he will get us one at some point. So as we can see that nothing has been done and as the car is too dangerous to be on the road we refuse the car and state we now want our money back. after lots of emails phone calls and texts which he ignores we go to see him and he offers us half our money back which we refuse. during this time i write to the garage concerned which is part of a major chain and got confirmation that they had the car 3 days and never got authority to work on it so they did nothing to it and after 3 days Kevin collected it. So Kevin knew when he rang us to collect the Vehicle that no Repairs had been done, after many weeks and Kevin upping his offer by £25, we start getting evidence together and this includes a kia Main dealer senior mechanic stating what had to be done. Kevin had dumped the car back at the Garage and it stayed there with nothing getting done for another 35 days, during this time as the car was moved the steering failed again. this was until I sent him a registered letter stating that i was getting the car inspected for use in court procedings, he suddenly got the steering pump changed but nothing else was done, he took it stating he would get someone else to check and fix the other faults and he took the car back to his car lot 4 days before the inspectors were due and then refused the car inspections people access to the vehicle. To go to County Court to get your money back you have lots of hoops to go through, and these take time and money and we did this one by one. so on 28/05/14 we started court proceedings. On the 23/06/14 it was ruled in our favour and we duly paid for the Bailiffs to get our money back and await confirmation they have been able to collect the money owed. This is the abridged version, i am only allowed 5000 words, but I have all texts emails, registered letters, costs, receipts and proofs filed to show that this is a true version of events. Please read also others who bought from him. Good luck to them all Richard read more

Spotted a very promising ad for a nice little MX5 being sold by Clarkes of Herts. Several nice photos of the car included. Phoned Kevin and asked all the usual questions, made a deal and sent a deposit of £200 by electronic banking. Flew from Belfast to Luton and was picked up at the airport by Kevin Clarke. On arrival at the garage to see my car, the first thing I noticed was that it no longer had a "hard top" but was a soft top up condition. When I asked where my hard top was, I was "told it should be about here somewhere". Frantic phone calls to many "potential sources of intelligence" on its whereabouts proved fruitless. After several hours I was informed, someone must have "stolen it" from our premises. I paid cash for the car LESS £200 for a missing hardtop on the understanding that Kevin would locate and ship me a hardtop for my car in the following few days. I have not heard from him since and my calls go unanswered. Needless to say I never received my hard top. WHOMEVER sold that "stolen" hardtop probably got about £400 (the going rate for a used top in good condition). I feel terribly let down by Clarkes of Herts and Kevin Clarke. read more

I purchased an Audi TT 02 plate from Kevin yesterday. I saw it advertised on auto trader in which I phoned up and enquired about the car to which he was very helpful and arranged an appointment to view the car. Now being a woman it's quite scary turning up to a car sales place as I know nothing about cars and I didn't want to be pounced on! But I was allowed time to look around the car and Kevin approached me. It was so comfortable to talk to him and to ask questions that might of seemed silly but he listened and responded respectfully. I took the car for a test drive, absolutely loved it in which I left a deposit. I came back with a friend to check the car over mechanically as I knew nothing in which Kevin was happy for me to do. Everything was great so I bought the car! I would definitely recommend Clarkes of Herts to anyone. You will certainly be looked after :) . read more

Don't even bother. Got car, had to be jump started to go on test driver. He said it had been standing for a long time which caused the battery problem and he would have it checked and sorted before I collected. Did he hell! Went flat on me 4 times in 5 days. Had it checked at my expense and found faulty alternator. It took him 4 1/2 weeks to get an alternator which was on the shelf. The car sat on his forecourt for that time and only got sorted when I escourted it to the garage. Then took 4 days to fit. When purchased car I gave him a list of things which should have been sorted. After 6 weeks his solution was to give me the phone number of a breakers yard to contact to buy the bits. I could go on and on, loads of other problems and still not sorted. Now bought a spare battery which I take in the boot of the car so I can jump start myself. USELESS!!!!! read more

Hi folks another update on the Maintained regardless (advert) Jaguar Sovereign I bought from Kevin Clarke dealership. My car developed a knocking noise yesterday still in warranty so I went to the internet and stripped the top of the engine just to see if my gut instincts were right and lo and behold the original timing chain tensioners have never been changed timing chains were banging off the metal casings, the advert for the car clearly stated all tensioners upgraded pulleys timing chain etc all been done so I thought this seems good so I flew from Ireland on Kevins recommendation that everything was tip top at least I can be assured nothing will go right ( sorry I meant wrong) this tensioner problem according to Jaguar can cause catastrophic engine failure please read my other review be warned there are several stories on here. I have sent him an email but he didn't respond to anything I have sent him so far it's a good job I thought to print off the advert in case I needed to go to trading standards. if anyone needs to do this make sure you get proof of correspondence I aim to send a signed for letter stating my intentions to him so I know he gets it. read more

I bought a car from Kevin in December. He had promised me a full service, 64 pt check as well as I bought a 3 year warranty. Once I paid by cash, within a week it had faults. The horn wasnt working, had acceleration problem etc. when I asked for proof of full service he said he would have it emailed to me. Within 2 months the car has had major problems, head gasket, turbos gone and dual mass flywheel. I called my warranty company and found that after 2 months they had no record of it. Kevin has been blaming his landlord for the car as he claims it was his landlords. In addition he has pocketed my warranty money without any warranty being in place. I am pursuing this further and recommend please DO NOT DO business with this business. They dont resolve any problens, sell faulty cats and make you chase them when there is a problem. I am taking him to court and would like any one who has had problems with him to please contact me on 07900902553 or diamondak@hotmail.com. I really would like any support and prevent others from going through as much trouble as Ive had. This purchase has caused so much distress and there has been no wilingness from Kevin to "rectify" this problem. read more

I bought myself an astra 2007 new shape 1.6 petrol, now the reason i give them a five star rating is simple! I went there with a bit of doubt, initially was thinking maybe vauxhall next door would be better however i am glad the young lad came outside to speak to me as i soon found out what extensive work they go through for their cars to be retailed. Firstly they give you a copy of the 64 point mechanical and safety check but also rectify anything that may need doing and that list is guaranteed and warranted itself, on top of that they were nearly £2000 cheaper than the equivalent next door which was at Vauxhall main dealer but they also made sure they did a HPI report which i had as well as a Vosa history check, a NMR check to warrant the mileage and a 15 months comprehensive parts and labour warranty included as well can be used at vauxhall(and before you say it a warranty isnt worth the paper its written on) well its a big warranty company and all checked out i have a friend who is a mechanic and he says there hasnt been any problems). Now the only difference between Vauxhalls car and this one was that Vauxhall's vehicle for sale was a 57 plate and had done 3300 miles more which is nothing. The real shock was that the car that drove best was not from Vauxhall and was in better condition both inside and outside as well. Talk about value for money! However it was also the service i got, from a young lad, nothing was too much hassle the car was presented immaculately however on the front bumper out of sight there was a tiny scuff underneath the car nothing major( but i am very anal especially with someone i have never used before) but he got it repaired for me for nothing the same day at the bodyshop, he also gave me a complimentary diamondbrite coating which is fantastic and they even retail at £199, the warranty alone retailed for 12 months at £529 on its own, but i must have had easily £800-900 included with the car before even trying to haggle, i just couldnt do it the service and after service some 4 months down the line has been incredible. It beats Vauxhall main dealer or any other garage around. The honesty of not trying to sell you their car but to find you the car you are looking for, if you ask they will help. The vehicle had just had a service from them even though it was serviced only 2000 miles ago at the Vauxhall main dealer. All receipts of proof and you can see the work was done. I was looking for a problem or issue and cannot complain. Even afterwards when i needed a roof rack for my vehicle i merely phoned to see if it was possible not only that he sourced them for me and saved me almost £35 on the roof rails from anywhere else i could get them and brand new genuine Vauxhall part! The Prices are very competative especially on their online market but you get so much value for money it is unreal. But its not the prices that i go there for i would happily pay the extra money for what they offer and the service afterwards is what is unreal. I would certainly be using them from now on and my Sister has just part exchanged her car in with them to which she got more for her car than other garages. These guys aren't here to rip people off and you feel it unlike other places. read more

Well, where do I start? This will be a review pending the outcome! I bought a Peugeot 206 , 03 plate, 76k on the clock. This is not my first car. We had been car hunting all day when i happened to drive past the garage and spot the car. Anyway I can't say Kevin Clarke of clarkes of herts is not helpful, because he really was and has been given the problems in less than 48 hours. Firstly the car radio packed up less than 24 hours after purchase, I called him and he was very good told me to take it down there to sort, also the back wiper was not there, he ordered a new one for me fab, in my book excellent customer service. Then later the same day, in the car park of halfords the bonnet started smoking eeeeek on my own, pulled over called the husband and called Kevin. He was very good came straight out to the car park (some wouldn't!) anyway took round to lukas auto repairs in apsley (by this point I was not happy, one bit) anyway after anther hour and half found out was a cap that has previously been snapped, as I can see this maybe coincidence but has not given me much faith.. Anyway drive home all seems fine Kevin has promised me a full health check free of charge (I am going to take it to Peugeot at the end of month anyway) and Kevin has assured me it had its 64 point check 2 days prior to purchase.. So I was semi feeling better about the situation. Then today radio doesn't work again. So this is to be continued! I do not doubt Kevin Clarke of clarkes of herts is a very polite, patient guy, who has experience in this field I just think the car certain parts were over looked by whoever did the check. And I need my faith restored . T b c Also just found out the car has been advertised on auto trader for 1590 and we paid 1995 now I feel like I have been ripped off will await a response. I run a business myself and find this disgusting I certainly hope I haven't been as I had recommended Kevin to a number of my clients prior to these problems I had praised his customer service! read more

I am giving Clarkes of herts a 5 star rating, the service is outstanding!! pure and simple, I am a young lady buying my first car and was incredibly aprehensive as I had a thought of what going to a car dealership would be like! I go in and some savvy sales person comes out give it all the spiel and tries to sell you something that 1 you probably don't need and 2 will try and rip you off!! not here, the young chap that helped me was incredibly helpful explained everything to me did not treat me as a mug and was very honest, I definitely did not spend as much as I was probably expecting to and the sales guy was more than happy to go out of his way to help, would recomend this dealership to anyone but expecially a first time buyer and for ladies who might not nessessarily have a great deal of experience in buying their first time car, go here, it will be the best place you go to read more
