The first thing I notice when walking into the store is the display tables with a range of bright and colourful products on. To the left hand side is a range of cards which vary in price and includes handmade and pop up cards. The range of cards stretches right down to the back of the shop. They stock a fantastic range of gifts for all occasions and a lovely range of stationary. They also do some beautiful hand-made wrapping paper as well as other paper with their own designs on. Some of the cards are Paperchase own brand and are special looking, whilst others are plain and simple. They also stock a great range of different frames and a few novelty items in here. The staff in here always look smart and are always helping customers to the best of their ability. During seasonal times such as Christmas it gets very busy in here, how-ever there are always plenty of members of staff serving and packing. The price of cards in here vary in price, how-ever I don't mind paying a bit extra for a special card. This is one of the best card/stationary shops in Guildford!

So you will find pencil leads let's say, but only one brand (the shop's own) and only one type (HB). Same goes for nearly every item from envelopes to paper and sellotape. It does have a very wide selection of Parker pens in pretty boxes, if you need a quick back-to-school gift-fix. And I found some great gold, silver, white and bronze pens to decorate my christmas cards with! A good place to have in every town, even if it doesn't cater to the true stationery afficionado.

When the mood strikes me, I browse through Pen and Paper to regain that part of my life, and it always puts a smile on my face. If you aren't quite as obsessed with some stationary as I am, this probably won't register, but Pen to Paper does sell some of the nicest stationary around. Moleskines, real paper, various lovely pens and pencils (proper writing utensils, mind, not biros or something), that sort of thing: an artist's paper shop, in effect. I love the idea of being able to buy bits of paper and write on them, but then this is all such nice, expensive paper... Now, I'm indebted to the electronic age now. The stock isn't as unique as in Malarkey in the North Laines but there's still a great range of birthday, good luck, get well and condolences cards as well as seasonal ranges like Christmas, Halloween and Valentines. Although the pictures in the window often look lovely, I don't have enough money to go around purchasing framed artwork, or indeed, getting anything framed. But I did step over the threshold the other day and was very pleasantly surprised. They do, of course, predominantly provide a framing service and sell artwork, but they also sell design books, have a really wide and interesting range of wrapping papers, gorgeous note cards and stationary, and my favourite thing of all, they sell these beautiful aged leather satchels in the all the colours of the rainbow, in large and small sizes. I desperately want one, but the small ones are £65 and the large are £85. I've done rather too much frivolous spending recently to justify the expense. But really, the shop has a lot more to it than I was expecting. Even the décor is cool, with lovely coloured tiles on the floor. The prices are fairly high, they have a section of the front with small empty 'off-the-shelf' frames to purchase, which range in price from about £18 to £40. You could definitely get similar items much cheaper in bigger stores, but if you are prepared to spend a little extra they have some really beautiful things.
