This recent visit has been the absolute worst customer service experience I've had in a long time. Employees are incompetent and they lie to your face. It's been over a month and I still cannot get a simple prescription for a different type lens so I don't even have the sample lenses yet. I also requested glasses made, but I needed the doctor to make one simple change to the prescription. This also has still not been accomplished. These seem like simple tasks for an office staff but I am pretty sure the employees are the dumbest and most uninformed they could find. Also they simply don't seem to care. This place gave me an eye infection by using dirty equipment from my eye exam. Then made me pay to come get it fixed. I dealt with a swollen eye and a sti for a couple weeks which truly hampered my work. They were nothing but rude and continue to overcharge after the fact. I've asked to speak to someone regarding this issue for close to a year now and they chose to ignore. I guess my family's business is not important to them. Don't waste your money and time here. I had Dr. Graf for the last two years. I always thought she was kind of cold and just seemed like she didn't want to be there. My second year annual exam, I told her how I always felt dizzy wearing my contacts and she explained to me that it was due to not having the exact prescription because I was in between -7 and -7.5. Then she magically remembered that there was one contact brand that did have -7.25. Basically, I went a whole year without the correct prescription for no reason. As an optometrist, I would hope she would've been able to give me contacts with the right prescription the first time around. I will no longer be going back to Clarkson Eye Care. read more

I was extremely disappointed in so many ways with Clarkston Eye care. Let me explain why: During my appointment, I told the dr that I wanted to use my VSP benefits for sunglasses as VSP allows you to do so if you have had lasik. The Doctor stated that I must have a prescription if I want to use my VSP benefit and would not look at the information I provided stating VSP allows patients to use their benefits that way. Because of that, I agreed to a prescription as I wanted sunglasses. At checkout, I once again brought up the fact that their establishment would not honor VSP's benefit for sunglasses. The assistant stated that I probably needed a different VSP level of coverage. She then pressured me into buying a 2nd pair at 50%. I had to tell her 3x that I do not want a 2nd pair. Then while she was writing up my itemized bill, I asked what a specific charge was for and she stated for "protection insurance" in case I break my glasses. I told her I did not want to purchase that and to take it off my bill. Once again, she tried to tell me how great it is to have it. I had to be firm when saying "NO! I do not want it." She charged me $15 for tint and I asked, "they are sunglasses, why are you charging me tint?" and she stated that because they are sunglasses it's required. She finalized my bill and I left. 3 weeks later I went to pick up my glasses. I asked for my prescription so I would have it for future. At no point in that interaction, did anyone say I owed a balance. A week later (a full month after my eye exam), I get emails and text messages saying that I still owe $10. I have asked multiple times for an explanation of the charge and all they provide me as their "itemized bill" is you owe $10. I have no idea of what this additional $10 is for and with the negative experience I had, I will find a new Dr - outside of Clarkston Eyecare that will honor VSP's benefit of using my insurance for off the shelf sunglasses so that I don't have to pay extra for tint and whatever else they are trying to charge me over a month after my appointment. read more

I am only rating with 2 stars, in hopes to improve the quality of their customer service, based on a single employees behavior. I walked in today to schedule an appointment. The girl at the front desk was very sweet and got my setup with an appointment. I believe she may still have been in training, because she had to check with a coworker to assure she was giving me the right answers. Props to her in the customer service field! The person (blonde hair) who she was asking the questions, came to the front desk. She wasn't sure on the answer neither, so she yelled to someone else. (My question was: Do they carry a type of contact that is worn overnight to correct someone's vision... So that glasses nor contact are needed in the day.) When her coworker (purplish reddish hair--Trish?) came to the front and treated me as if I was stupid. Her response to my question (in a very pissed off and disturbing way), "Why would someone wear contacts at night and then not wear them in the daytime, or why would someone sleep in their glasses but then run around all day without them!?! Had an appointment scheduled with Clarkson Eyecare Brentwood for today 9/27/23 and get there they tell me it was canceled. It was canceled by Clarkson. I made this appointment on 9/22/23. The lady at the desk said it was canceled because "they must have sent a text and you didn't reply, so they canceled the appointment". I'm like "excuse you", she says "that's what they tell me they do. Can I please get you rescheduled?". No you can not!!!! Wow does that??? I literally left work 1 hour and 15 minutes early to get to this appointment. I could have stayed my happy ssa at work. I would not recommend Clarkson to anyone. I can and will take my money somewhere else! You gets zero more chances to mess with my money. Before canceling an appointment you may want to try calling to confirm, there is no guarantee your "text message" was received. That is a ridiculous policy and I'm sure I'm not the 1st person this has happened to and I'm sure not the last. read more

The only reason I upped it to two is that Dr. Doiron and his assistant were fantastic. Thoroughly professional. I knew I was getting a good exam and I was right. The lenses are perfect. From there on, all went wrong. The biggest issue is the frames themselves. They are too small for my head. They cut into the ear cartilege so badly that I have to remove them for a rest sevral times a dayi No effort was made to make sure these frames fit. But, to back up. if anything will turn me off it is high pressure salesmanship. I neither needed nor wanted new frames. I made this clear to Erin but she was not taking no for an answer. Erin wins first prize for high pressure tactics. She simply went to the shelves and came back with a fist full of frames (almost identical to what I already had, laid them down on the table and walked away, leaving me alone while whe went around checking on what the other peop;le around the room were doing. After about ten minutes, I gave up and accepted a pair of frames. That is how much I wanted and needed what I knew would be good lenses. There were other issues with her sales tactics like - unknown to me - charging me insurance for my glasses and trying to convince me that it is cheaper to make lenses for Clarkson's frames than for mine, considering that they were almost identical except for size. But I'll try to cut this short by questioning how any bank accepts a blank check for electronic transfer. I do understand electronic transfer. It works fine. But doesn't the check need to be filled in and signed? How does anyone know where she got this check which, yes, she grabbed from me when I started to write it Simply grabbed it from me and said she would fill it in. Fill it in? My name is on it nowhere. Think about that a while. She wrote in the amount (no payee, no payer) and what is likely a code number at the top. She then voided the check. A voided check is accepted by a bank? I know. That code did it. But does it look right? Do they know I gave her that check? I should think she would want to protect herself better than that. All right. Maybe that process is none of my business. So, back to the fact that I cannot wear these glasses because the frames do not fit. I have my prescription and shalll go elsewhere to get frames that it. Thank you for nothing. I repeat in closing. Dr Doiron is a very good optometrist. I highly recommentd him. But be prepared for used car salesmenship tactics out front. At lease from Erin. If I could give them less I would. Here is what really happened. I had an appointment for an eye exam. This is not my first time. I have worn tri-focals for 10 years, I spoke with the doctor that did my exam that I no longer wanted progressive lens because I couldn't afford them. I told him that I had reading glasses at home. After the exam, I was told that I had a credit for $125 for frames. I picked out frames and the bill came to $118?? So I go ahead and pay it. 10 days later I pickup my new glasses. I put them on and can't see a thing. The girl that handed me the glasses hands me a card to read. I say "these are just reading glasses?". She brightly says "correct". I say "WOW" she asked is that a good wow?" I told her "$118 for reading glasses what do you think?" Needless to say I feel taken advantage of. I can buy reading glasses at any drug store for under $10. Don't go here no matter what their commercials say. they are rip off artists. read more

Sadly, Clarkson Eyecare is NO longer dependable: June 9, I brought my MD's RX for new lenses in my older Clarkson frames to the Eager Rd. shop. I said to use my same TRIFOCAL measurements. BUT weeks later they came in wrong as BIFOCALS! They said they'd RUSH the correct lenses. HA! "They'll be here, Monday," they said weak after week. My eye doctor asked, "What company IS this!" Finally, they phoned last night to say my glasses had arrived. I got them today, 07/18/2020 - some 39 days AFTER they were ordered: Pandemic or not - this is awful service! read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Graf for many years now, she is the best eye doctor I have ever had. Dr. Graf is very patient and kind. When I had a very rare virus that left scars on my cornea she is the only doctor who did the research to help treat it and recommend an amazing specialist. I have been using Clarkson for years and really had no problems. This last experience has been different. Make sure you ask them to check the stock of whatever frame you are using before you place the order because they have no idea if they are in stock or not at that point. I paid for glasses mid January and was notified a month later that the frames were on backorder for another month. If I would have known this up front I wouldn't have chosen that frame. Called to check on them today....2 months later and they still couldn't give me an answer on when I would receive both pairs of glasses. read more

I've been coming here for years. I've dealt with both Dr. Graf and Dr. Shearer and I really like both of them. I am a contact lens wearer and we've been able to have a great open dialog about my experiences with different brands so I can always get the lens that work best for me. I recently took my pre-schooler in for her first exam and everyone was so patient with her - although I've got to wonder who came up with this concept of putting 3D glasses on a kid and showing them a picture of an 8 inch fly. Apparently this is a normal part of the eye test for kids. Scared the -ish out of my kid so we didn't get to verify her depth perception. Every 3 or 4 years when I do spring for new glasses, they always come in quickly - and unlike prior issues with one of those national chains you find in the mall, I've never had to return my glasses four times trying to get them to put in the right prescription. (Yes, this really happened to me!) I judge healthcare offices by their staff retention, and there are a lot of people here who have stayed consistent over my years of coming her. That's good but I do have one complaint on that topic. There's that moment when the eye doctor walks you up to the glasses area and one of the assistants is supposed to take over. Every time I go, there's a significant delay in getting service. I see lots of these assistants running around but rarely does anyone say "We'll be with you in a second" or anything like that. If they were super busy, I wouldn't mind waiting but when there are few people in the store and it just looks like you're chitchatting with your co-workers, it kind of pisses me off. Once you finally get someone to help you, they're all super nice and they do a good job of working through the combo of medical and vision insurance to find you the best price. It would behoove Clarkson to do a little customer service training on the importance of acknowledging their guests who are waiting for service so we don't feel ignored. The rest of the service offsets this enough that I keep coming back but it does make me reluctant to recommend the place. Maybe if they fix it next year, I'll come back and up my rating. read more

I could hear the Dr. in the next room talking with a patient for a half an hour before he even started the exam. My experience with Clarkson St. Louis central west end branch is very very bad. I have ordered a glasses on 1st July and I have clearly informed the lady that I'm leaving US end of the same month. She ensured that I will get it before that and till now I didn't receive my glasses. I've been chasing them and they keep telling me we will check with the lab !!! I paid a lot for two pair of glasses that are awful. I have a strong prescription and was promised they would thin out the lenses. The lenses were not thinned; one pair is almost twice as thick as the other for the same prescription. The technician did not care I was upset with the glasses. She got me a new case for my glasses, adjusted them, and walked me through what my prescription meant so that even if I got my glasses from somewhere else, I would get the right thing. I was afraid to see an eye doctor for the last month, because of the Covic 19. I finally got up the nerve to make an appointment. I asked if all staff were wearing masks. I was told they were. I was able to wait in the parking lot because of my concern. They were nice enough to come to my car. However once inside the care center, I observed a worker without a mask on. The Eye Doctor's assistant had a mask on but no gloves, which surprised me. She did not wash her hands upon entering and was handing me an item to cover me eye. hopefully the item was a clean one, but no way to know. Then to top it all off the eye doctor came in without a mask. He was just an arms length from me while examining. I like this doctor a lot but I was very disappointed and now nervous that I could have contracted the virus from him if he is positive. While they do take temp there, we all now know a majority of people are a-symptomatic, and everyone, especially the doctors should be wearing masks. I did not say anything to the doctor. It happened so fast and I felt so surprised and stunned. Very awkward situation, I felt I was in to be telling a doctor he needed to wear a mask. i never imagined in a million years a doctor would walk in without a mask. I recently switched to this location from a great eye doctor I've had for years, due to a new job with different insurance. The 3 times I've been here, I feel unhappy when I leave. Dr. Graf is rude and cold, I feel as if she is bothered or insulted when asked questions. And the answers that she gives don't seem like she has a genuine care for you as a patient. The staff are friendly, but I feel rushed and don't feel that all of my questions get answered or are welcome at all. This place rubs me the wrong way and I plan to switch to a different doctor as soon as possible. read more

I've had very good luck with this location. They are generally very nice. The location is small, but has what you need. Doctor was very careful and informative. They do the right types of tests here for a reasonable price. Sunglasses here are expensive, and the contacts are not cheap either, but they are a friendly office with good location and lots of parking. read more

I had such good service here when I wanted to purchase Halloween contacts. The doctor performed a very reasonably priced exam. She actually would not immediately prescribe the lenses. She researched the best available lenses to fit my eyes based on what I wanted. The lenses are great. The shop saved the original containers and resealed the lenses inside so they would stay sterile and moist until I want to use them again. It was a couple hundred dollars well spent (my costume was awesome). Pretty good service for a chain glasses place! read more

DO NOT become a client here!! They have the WORST customer service and seem to not care nor need my money. I have worn contacts since I was in the 5th grade and have been a very loyal customer to my previous Optometrist. However, I recently moved to this state and selected this location for ease and convenience. NEVER have I EVER been treated so poorly by the Doctor (Graffe sp?) who forced me to try many new lenses instead of originally giving me what I normally wear. Which, in the end, forced me to pay for another eye exam for changing. What really tops the cake is this most recent instance: I recently ripped a contact & had ran out of contacts so, I needed a pair to "get thru till the order arrived." Dr.Graffe (sp?) refused to give me a pair (which they give out for free & keep in house) because I "tried all the ones last year so, she didn't feel comfortable giving me another pair." Basically, I didn't let her force the other brand of contacts on me and kept my original brand so, that probably cost her money for ordering something else. Well, I don't feel comfortable NOR appreciated in your location. I know I am just one customer but, I will NEVER go back and i will TELL EVERYONE Of my HORRIBLE experience with the snotty attitudes. Ordered prescription safety glassed and pain $ 350. Was told I will get them in 5-7 business days. 6 weeks later (!) still no glasses. I asked for a refund and was told a check will be send out to me and it might take up to 10 (!) business days. What a unprofessional place and what a waste of my time! read more

The staff here is so friendly and helpful. My eye doctor is at this location but I recently decided to buy my eyeglasses from an online retailer. Unfortunately, my eyeglasses weren't quite right. The staff at my Clarkson has been nothing but helpful in getting my eyeglasses corrected, even though I didn't purchase them at Clarkson.
