This shop did work for me last year. I had a 79 Trans Am shipped to them. I wanted to largely do cosmetic work on the car as my plan was to eventually flip the car. I was always open and honest about my intentions. I have owned two 2nd generation Firebirds for years. I had both these cars professionally restored by different shops. I had both cars stripped down to sheet metal and had other work done. Both cars were back to me in under 5 months, and the work was first rate. CPR had my car for 8+ months to perform largely cosmetic work (paint, replace interior panels, carpet, headliner, detail engine, new alternator, brake booster etc.) Had I known they would take 8 months with the car, I would had said no to the work. Let me share with you some insight to what I received for roughly $10K in labor charges. All of what you will read was brought to their attention, and I have the texts to prove it and never once did they deny it. So I will give them credit for not denying my concerns. However, as you will see they don't stand behind their work either. The driver sport mirror on the drivers side was not at the proper angle, and it bothered me so have the mirror at an odd angle. When questioned they said they had no idea what it could be. After I looked at my other Firebirds, I figured out the base was on backwards, and thus the mirror was not properly aligned. They backed it off the trailer upon delivery, so there is no way they didn't know it was mounted incorrectly. Remember they are the Pontiac experts, so they knew. That was a 15 minute fix for the shop to remount the mirrors, but yet they let it go. I also want to point out they never painted the sport mirrors leaving 40 year old paint on the mirrors. Then I noticed a load of exterior paint overspray on the passenger's inside window. I'm not sure how they did that but, it was left for me to remove. The engine detailing looked good in photos but upon a closer look, I could see the grease in cracks and hard to get areas. So I got out a rag and Simple Green to detail the engine properly. Low and behold the engine paint came off on my rag. They simply painted over the greasy engine. I cleaned the engine properly and painted it so it would be done correctly. The weather stripping in the doors and trunk was not glued so it came out. The trunk was obvious as it came out of the channel, but the doors I didn't discover until there was a sizable puddle on the front floor mats following a heavy rain. These are simply issues, but spoke volumes about the lack of quality workmanship. In regards to what I hoped was going to be a big selling point (the paint job), the passenger front fender had very noticeable solvent pops on the top where it met the hood. It was so obvious that when the car was sold the carrier company noted the blemishes in the paint on the shipping agreement. By now it was clear to me the shop I trusted didn't care at all about doing anything close to a quality job. In one of my discussions, their excuse was "you wanted it to look good for pictures", and yes, I did say that. However, it didn't mean you have my permission to do sub-par work and charge me full price. They had to know I was expecting quality when I got a call one day and they said we found a rust spot in the door. They wanted to know if I wanted them to bondo over it, sand and paint it, or cut it out and insert new metal. I said "Do it right, and insert the metal." So why would I want everything else to be a quick down and dirty job? I had the car out one day and I went to pump the brakes and I had NO brakes! I mean none--the brake pedal swag back and forth like it was attached to nothing. I jammed on the emergency brake and drove up on a median just feet before the intersection. The shop that fixed it said it was a faulty install on the brake master cylinder. The clip used to connect the brake petal arm to the brake petal rod came lose allowing the brake petal to not function at all. I've asked 3 shops if they have ever seen this malfunction, and all 3 said No. They all said it had to be a faulty installation job. When I pressed CPR on this issue they told me "that is what you get for using cheap parts made in China". If that were true we would be reading about accidents due to these faulty parts on a regular basis. Sadly, they never offered to reimburse me for their faulty work, towing or over charging for the 7 hours to perform engine detailing that was a quick spay can job. In summary the car was tied up for 8 months, I paid on time, and over $10K in labor, and I got at best sloppy work, and knowingly so. Since they never denied my claims, but never offered a refund after being asked, it can only mean to me this level of work is acceptable to this shop. If they somehow try to justify this sloppy work, or say I was just out to make a profit, that should be your warning sign. read more
