I am a semi-professional violinist. After living near Classic Violins for years, I finally took my 31-year-old violin there this month for a long overdue cleaning and upgrade on accessories. This instrument is my pride and joy, so I wanted to make sure it was in expert hands. I was very pleased when the lady in charge took the time to listen to my questions and then bring one of the violinmakers out to look at the violin. He made recommendations for cleaning, adjustments, and the right kind of new accessories, and he made sure I understood his advice. They also did a beautiful job fixing a crack in my bow tip. After taking lessons at 'Classic Violins' shop for 10 months, and after developing a serious love for the cello, I decided it was time to purchase my own instrument. I investigated other local Chicago-land shops, but decided 'Classic Violins' was the best opportunity to acquire a quality instrument, specific for my needs. Stefanie and Palmen made the process amazing and professional. They procured 8 instruments for the trial, secured a professional cellist (my teacher), and provided zero pressure while I made my selection (although, providing espresso during the trial was a plus...). After two hours, my teacher, wife and I made the selection. Although, Stefanie indicated that I was free to take a couple of instruments home to play if I hadn't made my final choice. Last week, I rented two cellos and a doublebass from Classic Violins for an orchestra competition in Chicago. Stephanie provided me with high quality instruments. Classic Violins, the owners and the people who work there are second to none. Each time we use their services, we always have an outstanding customer experience and receive the utmost attention anyone can ask for. Our family is a regular customer with two young student musicians. We have both, rented and purchased musical instruments from them. The quality of their Bulgarian made rental violins and cellos is absolutely great and I wouldn't choose any other place. We recently purchased an Arcus carbon fiber bow from them and thanks to the amazing Antoinette(Tony) and her impeccable knowledge of violin bows, my daughter now has the perfect addition to her custom made violin. Tony was so patient and resourceful during our bow search and multiple trials, we never felt rushed and knew we were in good hands. The Arcus bow is worth every penny and then some.... Thank you Tony! Their Luthiers, especially Petio & Plamen, are very experienced and with their attention to detail, I couldn't trust anyone else with our music instruments. In 2012 I began cello lessons, and I rented my cello from classic violins. The instrument they gave me was very nice, and when I broke a couple of strings, they were very efficient at replacing them. I always found the service to be excellent and they were very accommodating to my various requests. When it came time to purchase an instrument, I applied the rental equity toward purchasing the instrument I had been renting. I have just been very happy with all of my dealings with classic violin. I have been a loyal customer for over 8 years. They repaired my father's old violin for my son to play, rented violins for my children, and most recently helped my daughter select a violin to purchase. Every experience I've had has been very pleasant and easy. They are knowledgeable, honest, helpful, and friendly, and when I wanted to shop for a new violin but gave them very little warning, they were very accommodating! My daughter is very pleased with her new violin, and I was pleased to be able to let her try it out for a week and have it approved by her violin teacher before I finalized the sale. I also enjoyed using my accrued rental credit! Parking used to be a bit tight, but with the relatively recent repaving of the lot, it is now quite easy to get in and out! (Thanks for that, guys!)
