This was the worst chicken and waffles I've ever had! The chicken was cold as was the waffle and they had no people in the joint and they couldn't get the order correct! I ordered a thigh and breast, they sent two thighs both cold! I can't recommend this place anymore and I highly doubt I'll be back! Oh I forgot we called at 8:50 and the woman who answered said they were closing and we couldn't order food? We stopped in to check and that was BS! Very tasty menu! We came for dinner and treated ourselves to an app sampler with ocra, green tomatoes, wings and prawns, all done to perfection. Dinner were shrimp po boys and sides of baked beans and mac and cheese. The po boys were served on soft french rolls. The shrimp were large, mac and cheese had andouille sausage in it. Great spot to fill up on good old comfort food. Loved it so much we had dinner and came back for lunch the very next day. The favorites we got both times were the gumbo and fried catfish basket. Gumbo was so so tasty, really filling, and had that New Orleans spice I was craving. It was full of andouille sausage, little shrimp, and dirty rice. Definitely try a cup of it when you stop by. The waiter told us the catfish was discounted that night and also came with a side. At first it made me second guess getting the catfish since they were pushing it hard, but I'm glad we got it. It's SO GOOD!! The fish is moist and flaky with a well seasoned, crunchy breading. Do yourself a favor and go with the catfish. The choices of sides are awesome. For my side, I went with Clem's mac. It's super creamy with a little spice. Also tried the hush puppies. They came out pipping hot. Really well seasoned and crispy on the outside. The interior is super casual. There's a dining area as well as a bar all decorated with Mardi Gras beads and streamers. The dining area has lots of booths so there was never a wait. Bar area has TV playing, good for a drinks and some snacks. Service is great too! Our waiter both visits were attentive and gave some good suggestions. I get that it's a tough climate for some businesses but this place continues to decay. The interior is really dated, the staff seems inexperienced and the food is just ok. Waffles and pancakes are good. Scrambled eggs ok too. I tried the biscuits and gravy and it was awful. Like eating flour and milk heated up. Really enjoyed the southern Louisiana cuisine here because there isn't much that do it well in the Bay Area and surrounding towns. Food was delicious and nicely portioned. I ordered the sampler special they had which included a small bowl of each: jambalaya, gumbo, etouffe and it was sublime! First time having etouffe and it did not disappoint. Definitely on the spicy side, but I love spicy. I would not recommend it for those that can't take too much heat. A little far from where I live but would love to visit again! read more

I haven't been to Clementine's in 10 years! I had forgotten what the food and drinks were like until I stumbled across my sister's old Yelp review. It was my mom's birthday a few weeks ago and she chose Clementine's for dinner. They serve complimentary corn bread which was a bit dry, but thankfully they did provide butter which helped it. For my main entrée I got the Étouffée which is usually one of my favorite New Orleans foods. The version they had here was just alright. My mom and I ordered the Original Hurricane drinks and we were bummed with what was brought to our table. It didn't look anything like the Hurricane drinks that you'll normally see in New Orleans. I've been to Pat O'Brien's before in NOLA where they popularized the hurricane drink and it's usually served in a curvy glass and it's also a bright red color. We got a dark drink in a short glass. When we brought it up to our waiter he said that the Slurricane drink is what we should have ordered. That's confusing though, because slurricane sounds as if it were a blended frozen drink, and also calling it the "Hurricane-The Original" makes you think it's served the way they do in NOLA. Our drinks didn't taste that great so we didn't end up drinking it. It was a waste of money. Anywho, we also ordered peach cobbler for dessert which we didn't enjoy too much. It was a bit sour so we only had a couple of bites, I wish we didn't order it. I'm kind of bummed at the taste/quality of the food. This review is an update while dining under Covid-19 restrictions that allow restaurants in Contra Costa County to serve only outdoors. To meet the restrictions, they cordoned off a portion of the parking lot in the West side and have set up a number of tables. This is not a nice looking set up. It resembles more like police tape put up around a crime scene to keep people out. The tables are spaced at 6' or more between tables. The tables are set up for no more than 4 people at a sitting. The tables and chairs are not matching so it looks a little jumbled and definitely, temporary. The menu has been pared down a bit and printed on disposable paper sheets. Their hand sanitizing station is a bit crude - just bottles of sanitizer with self-dispensing pumps and a roll of paper towels set out on a table at the head of the line of tables. Normally, we come here after golf at a nearby golf course. I usually have their Big Easy Breakfast - !/2 lb. Chicken Fried Steak, 3 eggs, Hash Browns or Country Fries or toast and half a waffle. It's a very big breakfast but I usually take half or more of it home. But, not this time. I wasn't watching our time and we got there after the 2 PM deadline for serving breakfast. So, I went to my next best choice - A Pastrami Reuben Sandwich with choice of Potato Salad, French Fries or Country Fries. I chose the French Fries. For some reason, it wasn't as good as usual. The pastrami was kinda salty and fries were not crispy on the outside - just a bit soft on both interior and exterior. The portions were still generous but it just wasn't as good as usual. My family came in here this past Sunday afternoon for a meal for the first time. Right off the bat we were not greeted and it took us 15 minutes after we were seated to first receive service, even though it was not busy. After that, it took us a lot longer to even place our order. Our server did not treat us well: she gave us weird expressions, spoke and took our order from a distance, and overall seemed like she did not want to talk to us. I've worked multiple jobs in the food service industry and can understand having a bad day however, this was not the case. Every staff member that we interacted with treated us coldly, to put it bluntly. As Asian Indians, it is already hard enough to go and try new restaurants because of dietary restrictions and how often we are treated poorly by restaurant service. Often times you may think it is not noticeable, but it is, we do notice. Our server seemed annoyed when we asked about menu accommodations (ex: can a burger be made with chicken instead of beef) and the only other staff member we interacted with, simply to ask for straws, behaved the same way. Another table came in maybe 45 minutes after us and the same server's attitude completely flipped. She was a lot more warm and polite towards them, took their order right at their table and they overall received faster service. Our food was pretty decent and we had little to no complaints. However, even if we wanted to talk to someone about our food, we wouldn't have been able to since no staff member or server was there to talk with us throughout the duration of our meal. Overall, this was a pretty upsetting experience, so much so that I felt compelled to write my first review about this. Finally decided to stop in one weekend for breakfast after driving by the parking lot of Clementine's and seeing the covered tables for weeks. Walked into the restaurant foyer and was immediately greeted by a young man who sat us immediately (~10:30/11 am on a Sat). There were two other ladies waiting for their pickup food so if you're not into chancing it right now, you can always call ahead for pickup. Covered tables are available outside in the parking lot to accommodate social distancing guidelines. Table spacing is okay, but if you have a full table sitting next to a full table, two people from differing groups aren't technically 6 ft apart. With only the two of us, we positioned ourselves in the middle so we were equally spaced from others. This was our first time eating here. Waitstaff were pretty attentive, taking drink orders immediately and bring us menus as soon as possible. Clementines also offers their daily deals so you can still get a decent offer any night of the week. Weekends are bottomless mimosas which works for me! The man and I decided to split an order of Eggs Benedict (traditional style) with a side of the corned beef hash. Let me tell you, the small side plate of hash was huge, and could have been split between 3-4! It's also not made traditional style (cubed potatoes that are slightly smooshed into the other ingredients), but rather with thin sliced potatoes, chopped corned beef and bits of green pepper and onion thrown in. It reminded me of Texas breakfast hash. The Eggs Benedict are perfect for sharing. English muffin is pre-toasted, but the crisp eventually fades, so be surf to eat immediately. The meal also comes with a side, so we opted for the "fried jalapeño grits" for an upcharge. I love grits, but was disappointed with these since they definitley needed more seasoning...they were bland as all hell, even with the cheese and jalapeño added. I asked for salt and pepper, but our waitstaff must have forgot bc S&P never came. The man also opted for an order of pancakes per the waitresses recommendation (over the waffle). Pancakes come three to an order and are slightly sweeter than what I'm used to ordering from other restaurants. I'd eat these again, but am glad I had something savory first. Overall, I wanted to like this place a lot, but was a little let down. I plan on visiting once more to give it another go before making a final decision so will keep you posted on how it goes. **COVID Door Dash Review** So a few times a week we try to order different local restaurants, unfortunately with shelter in place we don't feel comfortable taking the whole family out to get food. So we use delivery services, which charges all kinds of fees and what not. I ordered the chicken PO' boy with hush puppies, my wife ordered the fried cat fish and we got my son the corn diggity dog. I was not too impressed with the PO'boy, it was more of a chicken burger that a PO'boy. It also tasted like chicken thigh then breast. However it was very flavorful, but tasted kind of salty (FYI I am on a pretty much zero salt diet, so my taste could be off) The bush puppies however were on point, really wish they had some sort of dipping sauce though. My wife's fried catfish was Huge! She really enjoyed it and it hit the spot! As for the corn dog, that also we really good, I kind wish I got the kids meal then the po boy lol read more

Honestly I don't know why this place isn't rated higher. I went tonight with my boyfriend. They have outdoor dining and there was live music! The service was so great. We got checked on by everyone. Not just our server, who I believe was Alyssa. Who was also so sweet! Everyone just went out of their way to take care of us which was so amazing! We had the beer battered shrimp for our appetizer. I had a bowl of gumbo and BBQ shrimp with a side of Mac & cheese. My boyfriend had a bowl of gumbo, and fish & chips. Everything came out hot which is a huge thing for me. I do not like my food even a little cold. I'm the person who would rather burn their tongue than have cold food. Which if you consider we were there for dinner and outside, then this makes it a bigger deal that the food was hot when it got to our table. Just as a warning, we both got pretty full from a bowl of gumbo (it's way more filling than we thought). I just wish there had been space left for dessert! It was so much fun! Got the prime rib medium rare with loaded baked potato and creamed spinach and spicy fried chicken with taters. The prime rib cut was nice. The outside crust of the prime rib had a Smokey/grilled flavor/smell to it and I think it could've done without it. Au jus could use a little more flavor. Creamed spinach was good. Spicy fried chicken was not spicy at all but was crispy and had ok taste. Biscuit with butter was surprisingly good. Mash potato and gravy was super bland. I ate all this in 3 sittings within 2 days. All In all the prime rib cut and temperature stopped me from giving this place a 3 star. I'm surprised it's not on the menu. Definitely will come back to try other things. read more

Went here 2 days in a row for dinner. The first night I was craving Beignets, and looked to see if they had any place near by the hotel we were staying at. Yelped, and found Clementine's. It was opened til 10 pm. They have live music when we went, it also wasn't busy so that was nice. We ordered crab cakes, fiancé ordered prime rib, I ordered gumbo, and a salmon salad. -Crab cakes were so good! The salad was decent, and beignets were yummy. Oh they had fresh made corn bread which was so good. We had the nicest server named Ethan. He did a great job checking in on us. Next night the fiancé wanted to go back, and he's a pretty boring white guy. He wanted to sit at the bar, and watch the Warriors Game. Of Course Crab cakes and beignets. I have liked eating here in person, but I won't be eating here in the future. If they don't give the same care to customers who aren't in the restaurant then that is proof of their true character. I had the pleasure of visiting Clementine's for their Mardi Gras celebration. I was hired to provide table side balloon entertainment. This allowed to me talk to all their guests in the dining area and bar area. I saw only happy people. The staff were fantastic, the band was amazing, the food was presented nicely and in huge portions. Everyone was raving about the fried catfish. I went home with a great sampling of their offerings, and I have to agree, the fried catfish was wonderful, perfectly crispy and yet still moist inside. The jambalaya was perfectly spiced and loaded with sausage. The shrimps were delicious. Okay, so we were looking for somewhere different to eat. My husband found this place so we decided to try it. When we pulled up the parking lot was kinda empty, so I thought we were just going to walk in and then turn around. Once we walked in the decor was beautiful Mardi Gras vibe. To the right was the bar and where the live band plays at night and to the left to go eat as a family. It didn't take long at all to be seated less than five minutes and hardly anyone one there on that side. We got to pick where we wanted to be seated. The bar was popping and crowded. The waiter came right away to take our order. He really didn't know much about the alcohol drinks meaning what's good or really popular. I order the hurricane which was super strong and was worth it. I didn't feel like I got ripped off not at all. The food was really cooked well and very seasoned. The place was very clean and gave nice vibes. Everyone was friendly. I would definitely recommend . We still love this place and was so happy to see it so busy today!! Still good food and great service but we were very disappointed with the raise in prices. I get it everyone is having to raise their prices right now but 35-45% increase Cobb salad was $10.95 now it's $16 the blacked chicken sandwich was $10.50 then $11.95 now $16. Portions are the same but the prices are now way over indulgent. We supported them all through the pandemic when it was take out and also when we had to sit outside in the bee infested parking lot but I'm not sure how often we will be able to still support them with this high price increase. Hopefully they are able to go back to a more affordable breakfast/lunch spot somewhere in the future. read more

I have to say I was disappointed on this my second time here. The first time was several years ago and from I recall it was good. Not sure what happened...maybe change in ownership or the cooks or even the recipe. In any event, we tried the chicken & waffles and the fish & chips. The chicken seemed a little dry almost like it had been twice fried. The batter was crunchy but seemed a little salty as well. The fries were decent but lacked something more than salt. The fish, although the pieces were nice and big, they were oily/greasy. Not sure if this how all cajun food is, but if it is, count me out. I for sure will not be coming back. My recent dining experience was a disaster. We ordered from the menu the half rack of ribs. They were tough and we asked for a better knife to cut them and eventually sent them back. We also ordered the sampler platter. Everything was over fried and not edible. The only tasty food we had there was the gumbo soup. We expressed our dismay and our meals. Asked my entire party for vaccine cards upon entry in a county where it's not mandated, so this place is willfully complicit in totalitarianism. If it were not for my family members planning this get together, I would have turned right around and went somewhere else, just based on that. My card and "status" are my business and no one else's. Denying service to anyone based on that is disgusting and infuriating. Food was mediocre. Large portions, basic quality. Cocktails were muddled, overly sweet, and served in randomly chosen glasses that did not fit the drink that was being served in them. Our server was really attentive and personable, so points for him and him alone. Not coming back and suggesting that others I know do not support this business. Well, wrote my first review on Clementines about 2 1/2 years ago. Still a great place, especially if you are in the mood for Louisiana-style food. I now eat breakfast there almost every Sunday, and lunch, sometimes dinner there at least monthly.Fried chicken is great, shrimp outstanding, and although not usually a red-meat eater, I heard the smoked prime rib was really good, so finally tried it a few months ago. It was great! Love taking business associates there, many have never been before. Now I see some of them there frequently. We took our granddaughter to lunch yesterday. The waiter was unfriendly. My husbands fries tasted like they were frozen not fresh. Granddaughters bread was so hard it hurt the roof of her mouth. It was a very disappointing meal. In every booth I could see, the benches were ripped and torn in some way. The very nice waiter suggested the jambalaya, or the etouffee. But they weren't what I was looking for. In retrospect, I should have listened to him. I ordered the Smoked Ribs with a side of macaroni and cheese. It also came with slaw. The ribs were overcooked and bland, very dry and obviously pre-cooked days ago. But they were underseasoned, no salt could have been used. And there was no smoke taste at all. I sprinkled and sprinkled with table salt to correct it, but that didn't do enough. An the splash of barbecue sauce did little to alleviate the parched, overcooked ribs. The macaroni also was unsalted, and the very little sauce was watery and bland. The high point was the pop of flavor from the bit of grated cheese sprinkled on top. The coleslaw at least had plenty of moisture, but again was flavorless. The bar seemed lively. Maybe the drinks are good here. But don't come for the ribs. read more

Update, this restaurant has reached a qualification of being truly excellent in my opinion. The level of passion and spirit put in by the employees and the management is incredible. There is always a seasonal decoration and a feels like a good place where one belongs. From ingredients to preparation and presentation, the ambiance, locale, music and customer service, it's all dialed in. The ratio of service people even scales up on busy days. Went during lunchtime during midweek before Christmas. It wasn't really busy. Service was slow as it took 10 minutes before our order was taken. They were severely understaffed. The food is not even good New Orleans cuisine and I've been to New Orleans. Had the PO which only had 6 shrimp slathered with lots of sauce. The buffalo wings were overly deep fried and made me super thirsty after leaving the restaurant. It wasn't cheap either. Food was good, but service was even better! Shout out to Momo! A group of coworkers and I had dinner here. I was honestly extremely surprised that San Ramon had soul food and cajun. Although it's not the real deal, it was decent. I ordered the Cajun Trio (Jambalaya, Gumbo & Étouffée), all of which were good, but out of the three I definitely enjoyed the Gumbo the most. The only drawback about the Cajun Trio is that there is a lot of rice in all three dishes. Pro tip, ask if you could get it on the side. A few of my coworkers ordered the Fried Catfish Basket and that looked and smelled pretty bomb. Portion sizes are generous. The menu offers a little bit of everything for everyone, and the kitchen was nice enough to accommodate to the vegetarians in our party. They also have drink specials for everyday of the week! Laid back and family oriented atmosphere. Decor was interesting, but a bit outdated and light fixtures could get some dusting as I noticed spider webs on them. The ladies room was clean. Staff was awesome, specifically Momo. She has an amazing personality and will make sure you have a great time at Clementine's. There was also another individual, who was super sweet, checked up on us frequently, and helped take several group photos (you know who you are). Thank you!
