Came here for the fair and left satisfied! They have parking and a transportation to the front if you parked far! Very convenient! The security and front gate guards were very nice and welcoming. I enjoyed a funnel cake with a pretzel as well! They were really good! We played a few games and also bought some popcorn! It was fun and so much to do here! I can't write a bad review but I can't write a positive review either .... I was scammed at the fair by two vendors making fraud charges on my card .. both at a funnel cake place and a candy apple place . I took my partner and her son and wanted to get a wristband so he can ride whatever , he has autism and I wanted him to go on the rides at his own pace . Lady was rude and said there were no Armand's not mentioning the place to buy them was right around the corner . (We saw this after buying the tickets ) Also the child with autism waited an hour to ride the roller coaster and they made him leave bc the ride broke down (it was fixed only 2 mins later ) and he had to wait all over again , they could've let him have his spot back . The swings operator was horrible a group of teenagers got in front of all of us in line (there were at least 15) and they let them through to ride and didn't say a word .. it was rude and disrespectful. The positive review I'd have to say is always cullers . They have the best vinegar fries that I look forward to when I go . Candy apples were great and my partner loved the fat Albert game even though we didn't win , just watching the little mouse was super fun .. Word of advice : don't bring your debit card .. ever . Use cash for everything, I ended up having to dispute over $80 of fraud activities on my account :( read more

I attended the Cleveland County Fair a few weeks ago on a Saturday evening. This was my 2nd official visit to the fair. The first was a great experience as well, but I wouldn't have had the opportunity to tell you that if my friends didn't drag me there to experience the full-blown "country" fair that their hometown puts on every year. Many of my friends I met in college were from Shelby and I was doubtful since it takes about 45min to 1hr to get to Shelby from Charlotte. What was great about my 2nd visit to the fair was that we had a friend that had never experienced a county fair from Connecticut and she experienced what I did last year. The night was filled with laughter and just watching her discover all these things foreign to her and her vision of the world. Off-brand colas, fried everything, farm animal petting, and people watching made an enjoyable experience (especially when her face contorted in different expressions of terror and surprise). We ate TONS of food. I had a turkey leg for the first time and fried oreos. Needless-to-say I was almost in a food coma when driving back to Charlotte. Overall, there is something for everyone at the fair. If you are there to eat, you can... there are also educational exhibits to take in. There are also the rides, but I didn't go on them due to the excess amount of food I partook in - I didn't particularly want to see the food again since it was so enjoyable the first time around ;). If you like fried foods, this is the place for you. The fair has an amazing selection of foods from fried twinkles, fried cheesecake, funnel cake, turkey legs, fresh squeezed lemonade, ham biscuits, french fries, and I could go on. The rides are a big part of the fair but make sure you walk through the buildings to see the 4H exhibits. Parking is free. read more

I'm not a fan of fair rides or games so I'm not rating them. This rating is for exhibits, animals, food, displays, performances. The exhibits include produce, baking, photography, artwork, crafts, flowers, quilting, and farm animals. The variety of exhibits is extensive and the quality of entries has gotten better through the years. There is not shortage of typical fair foods to select from at the cc fair and a few local restaurants are also represented. The animal exhibits are a favorite and include cows, pigs, rabbits, chickens and more. The fair always includes a good selection of performances as well including a high wire act, demolition derby, local dance school performances, clowns and magic shows. read more

2014 was the 90th anniversary of the Cleveland County Fair. It was originally founded by the Kiwanis Club here in Shelby. Admission prices at $8 for adults and $3 for kids 6-12 are reasonable - but what does that get you? Not a whole lot. If you choose your days/events carefully, you could maybe get free Grandstand admission where most of the main attractions occur (Motorcycle Stunt Show and Demolition Derby) otherwise Grandstand admission is seperate. The exhibits of art work/photography, fruits and veggies, arts and crafts are neat to see. The food and rides like any fair are expensive. Tickets for rides are almost $1 each and many of the rides take four tickets. We saw people wearing colored wristbands and later found out that for $18 you can buy a wristband and have unlimited rides all day; would have been nice for someone at one of the ticket booths to mention that. The only animals we saw were in cages. Not sure if they eliminated the petting zoo after the whole E. Coli incident back in 2012 (110 sick, 1 child died). If you want to see a Wild West Show, a pig race, demolition derby, hypnotist, small children dancing and eat a corndog, then this is your place. The State Fair in Raleigh is definitely better and if you really want an experience check out the Illinois State Fair (it is simply amazing). read more
