I would not recommend purchasing a vehicle from here. My husband purchase a used 2019 Impala from this dealership at the beginning of the month and, within 30 days, we were informed that the catalytic converter needs to be replaced. They knew we were purchasing this vehicle and bringing it back to Pennsylvania (where vehicle inspections are mandatory to make the vehicle legal). They did not disclose any issues with the vehicle either. Upon contacting them, they are not willing to fix the vehicle nor contribute any money towards the $2k cost to fix. Sheisty... this is the word I would use.. We understand the used car market is hot and we know that we had been looking for this particular car for some time, so the "no debating" over the price I can understand... but we went on Black Friday and definitely expected some sort of special deals and some festive customer service. Unfortunately our salesman had other ideas and had nothing to offer us, eventho the vehicle was a good $2K overpriced. No discount on service contract, no undercoating to throw in for making the 90min drive. He actually said they do not prefer cash offers because then he won't get his "lender kickbacks" from their "corporate relationship". I asked to speak to a manager but got the finance guy instead, who again said no budging on the price and nothing else to offer. He then informs me that they have already gotten the loan approved on the full price plus tax, title and plates! We did not authorize the dealership to request an auto loan and had already secured our rates directly with our lender because we needed to pay off our other auto loan and roll that into the new one to have only one payment. The finance guy assured me they could do that (roll in the old loan w/o a trade in) and he would take my cash deposit on a credit card in house so we could leave with the car. They took the $2k cash deposit on a credit card, approved my payoff amount for the previous loan and reduced my monthly payments by $20 which seemed like something since I was getting no discounts or service or anything. They gave us 2 logo key chains for our 2 fobs. Then I call the credit union on Monday to find out why I have 2 auto loans and 2 payments expected in Dec! read more

Just sold our '23 Expedition to Clift and it was an A+ experience - I was very concerned to say the least after reading these reviews so I proceeded cautiously every step of the way and they kept passing with flying colors - Josh Niehaus, the agent who contacted me via autotrader was professional, responsive and never pushy. I live 40 min from Adrian so they offer a service to pick up the car for free - they ID'd the 2 drivers beforehand so I could check them out on the website, the drivers arrived on time in a car wrapped w/ the Clift logo, and I took a photo of their licenses; and the drivers had the bill of sale and other paperwork ready to go. Our car was pristine and they didn't try anything shady to get a better price; then they submitted all the paperwork to release our lien and finish the sale. Everything was done in a matter of days. I know everyone says "I don't usually post reviews..." but really I don't! But I felt compelled to share b/c my experience was so different than others' here and I want to give credit where credit is due. read more

Took my truck in to have the transmission checked out. They came back with saying I needed a new torque converter among other things for a $5000 bill. Say no thank you and took it to Brakes-N-More who had other things to say and ended up finding a solution for $800 and my truck has been driving great since pick up. I bought a certified GM vehicle at this facility. This vehicle was plagued with problems right from the start. I didn't even have it a full week before I had to return to the dealership. Come to find out they are the ones that did not do the alignment correctly causing the steering problem. They had it several days.. then only 2 days later it had a thermostat issue.. back to The dealer only to find out the parts on national back order. They had it a few more days. On the way home from picking it up I noticed another problem and called them. Once again I had to take it back to the dealership only to find out that component was also on national back order. At one point in time I asked if they would take this thing back and put me in another vehicle. The management was going to have nothing to do with this. Every customer deserves the right to feel safe and secure in a vehicle that they just purchased. I had to take time off work to get it to the dealership and to pick it up. This was a huge burden on my work schedule and my wife's. Not to mention the financial loss that I took after trading it in less than 30 days of ownership. The sales staff and service people were great and were willing to communicate.. The managers wanted to avoid the situation in hopes I went away. I would not recommend taking your vehicle here for any kind of service. I took my vehicle in for just an oil change and tire rotation. As usual they check your air filter and cabin filter. Which they said needed to be replaced. I told them no that I would take care of it . They said okay and a few minutes later they said my vehicle was ready. As I drove off the motor sounded a little different. When I arrived at my destination I popped the hood and found they didn't screw down the air filter case . Took it back the next day the lady that checked me in originally said she was so sorry. She got a mechanic to come out and screw it down. The next day I decided to change both filters. Well the mechanic only screwed in only 3 screws became the others were missing. So they never told me hey you're missing a few screws . So I put a new filter in tightened the screws that were there and took it back to them . Will the lady that checked me in originally said yeah I knew they were missing. My question was why in they hell didn't you tell me then ? I got another I'm sorry. She got the mechanic to put screws in that were missing. So I decided to talk to the owner of this dealership. Again I got an I'm sorry. Its pretty funny that when you take your vehicle into a dealership they take all these pictures of your car to cover their ass . I think they should start taking pictures of the area they are working on before and after. So my ass is covered especially if they can't do the job right. So I'm not sorry but don't take your vehicle there unless you take your pictures before and after . And this was just an oil change. read more

Beware of false/misleading advertising from this dealership regarding used cars. On April 10, 2023 I purchased a used 2022 Tesla Model 3 from Clift Auto in Adrian, MI. The car was publicly marketed as never having been in an accident and having had only one previous owner. The sales representative also told me on at least 2 occasions that the vehicle has never been in an accident and only had one owner. On June 12 I brought the vehicle to the Tesla Service Center for evaluation of the steering problem. I was informed by them that "we found your vehicle has been in an accident" . Tesla also reported to me on June 19 that "we can tell the vehicle hit something underneath in the front" . They also reported that "a used left half shaft has been installed on the vehicle" indicating that some type of repair had been attempted on the vehicle prior to its sale to me. Again, this was not disclosed to me at the time of purchase. They also noticed a non-Tesla metal bolt had been placed on the left underside of car, suggesting there had been structural damage to vehicle that was not disclosed to me at the time of purchase. I was also able to discover that the "one previous owner" was Hertz and that the vehicle was used as a rental vehicle. This was not disclosed to me at the time of purchase. read more

When I looked the car up it had been in not 1 accident but 3 . So if you buy from them check everything out very careful. I love my GMC Acadia, but I will go to different dealership next time I buy a car. I did all of my financing online before I even seen the vehicle. When I arrived at my appt, the car exterior wasn't even clean, they couldn't take the time to run it through the wash. Then in list of features it advertised all weather mats, which it did not have. After purchasing car, no follow up from dealership. Very disappointing with how they promote their dealership, but its just like how they advertise their cars, they might have had it when they were new, but those features are no longer available but they still advertise it. read more

Clift is a NO HAGGLE dealership, but they fail to mention that until you arrive. I had been in contact over email the days leading up to coming in and checking out a used car at Clift. I was coming from an hour away, so I wanted to be clear with what I was looking for. I went in knowing that the vehicle was almost $2,000 over Blue Book and NADA cost. While looking at the vehicle, the salesman told me it was in perfect condition. That was clearly not the case as I saw the passenger seat leather had scratch marks all over from a small dog or cat. I pointed those out to him to which he seemed surprised he hadn't noticed them earlier. After I took the vehicle for a test drive, I asked the salesman if we could discuss numbers. He said no and that the prices on the tag are the cost, not including tax and fees. I said thank you and drove the hour back home. I left feeling as though they had no interest in me or my business. I wish the website or the salesman I had been emailing back and forth would have mentioned that their prices are non-negotiable instead of wasting my Saturday afternoon. read more

I recently leased a 2013 Buick Verano. I shopped around at many local dealerships from Ann Arbor to Toledo. I was very pleased with Clift. My salesperson was Steve. He did not try to pressure me into a sale the first visit and he provided me with a very reasonable quote. I noticed other dealers would give me a high first price to see if I would "bite", then come down later. Some dealers would not even give me a quote until I took the vehicle for a drive. And other dealers just never called me back. The entire staff was very courteous and helpful through the entire process. I have nothing but good things to say about them and was so pleasantly surprised. All I wanted was a car dealer to respect me, give me a decent price and not try to screw me...that simple. We were contacted repeatedly by Clift Buick GMC after having our trade-in appraised online at autotrader.com. Clift Buick GMC wanted to buy our car based on the very detailed appraisal submitted electronically and were willing to pay a very fair price. In fact, the sales associate claimed that, "We typically pay hundreds more than the atuotrader.com quotes." We were planning to buy a car at another dealer, but wanted to sell our trade-in to Clift Buick GMC to yield the highest sale price. Because they were being so helpful, we made an appointment for after work to check out two vehicles that were exactly what we were looking for. Then, she called us and told us that one of them sold. Determined to make this work, we made the hour trip with our two-year-old to check out the other one. As we sat down with her, the second one was literally being driven off the lot. Needless to say, we were furious. She tries to recover the sale by showing us a third vehicle, but it was a different model, had dozens of visible scratches, and was missing a bolt in the exhaust manifold. So much for a certified used vehicle, eh? The sales associate insisted that we could add all the parts that we wanted to, basically, turn an LS into an LT. But it would all cost extra. And no one from the service department could confirm/verify that those installations were even possible. She googled a couple sites and essentially told us that, "the internet says you can," but that doesn't work for me. Frustrated and hungry, we left. They called us the next day to buy our trade-in, again. So two days later, we grabbed our two-year-old and drove both cars down after work to sell it to them. After a 1/8-mile drive, the so-called "inspector" offered us $500 for the vehicle. We. Were. Outraged. The autotrader.com appraisal captured every detail of the car's condition and spat out an offer of $2,000. When I asked the sales associate to look up the appraisal, she claims that all they could verify was mileage, year, and make/model. Working at her desk, she refused to look at me, so I asked her, "Are we done here?" and finally she said, "Yep." My husband went back inside to ask for the manager's business card. She said that they don't have business cards. So he walked out. She chased him outside and said, "Wait, we do have cards, but he's out of the office for a family emergency and his office is locked. So there's nothing I can do." Riiiiiight. After voicing our complaints with friends and family, WHICH WE DEFINITELY DID, it turned out we weren't the only ones with bad things to say about Clift Buick GMC. I highly recommend going elsewhere to purchase and/or sell your next vehicle. These people are completely unprofessional, rude, and could not care less about wasting your time. read more

My husband and I bought a vehicle for Clift Buick but before we left the lot we noticed that a part in the vehicle went bad and was told to call them Monday because no one was there to fix it on a Saturday. so I called on Monday and was told he had to talk to his manager first and would call me back within a few hours I called back 4 hours later and he wasn't their. So I called back the next day Left another message with no return call I waited a day and called back i was sent straight to his voice mail. Started to email him and was told he hasn't talk to his manager yet but he had my back. Here it is a month later and they are still refusing to fix the broken part. From the first step we made into this dealership it was a nightmare. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. read more

They're starting out with a handicap because they're a GM dealer and GM is pretty much incapable of making decent cars, but they also have used cars from a variety of makers. I got mine there a few years and the salesperson still recognizes me anytime I'm in there to get work done. Prices for repair work are very reasonable. Also, if you bought your car there, they'll give you a free loaner anytime you have to leave it. read more

I had a major fender bender with a family members car. I hadn't had an accident in a long time and didn't know who to take it too. It was suggested by a friend that heard Clift's body shop did great work. I made the appointment and with in the week had the car back and it looks and acts as good if not better than it did before the accident. Thanks Clifts body shop! My wife and I are visiting family for the holidays and we accompanied my father -in -law to buy an SUV listed at 25,900 that the dealership had purchased at auction, as reported by CarFax. One of the first things the sales woman told us before even seeing the car was that they "were already losing 900 dollars" on the SUV, which meant they bought the vehicle for 26,800 at auction. I have friends that sell cars and deal with auctions all the time, and knew instantly this was not true. This point was emphasized twice before even taking it out on a test drive. Upon return and beginning the offering process, the sales woman brought in Gary, the owner. He said he could move a"couple hundred, not thousands" because they were "already losing money on it." The owner, Gary, told us about his "software" that shows the price other dealers in a pre-selected radius are listing the same vehicle for. He kept trying to tell us about his "software" and the numbers, which of course is initial asking price not purchased price, and the numbers are all based on what you put in. While showing us his "software" he kept emphasizing that they are already losing money on this vehicle. The amount they initially paid for the vehicle would not have come up had they not kept pushing how they were losing money it to begin with. When discussing this with Gary he said between the auction and how much he put into the car the total amount cost him 27,300 and they are "already losing money" by listing it 25,900. I stated that I would want to see the paperwork before I believed they paid that much at auction. My father in law asked if they could see it. Gary said of course then told the sales associate to go get the paperwork. At that point Gary's face became very red, he covered his lips with his hands, and he became tense. Once he looked through the paperwork I saw some numbers and he became fidgety and looked very uncomfortable. After the papers were brought in he looked through all of them, his face became very red, didn't show us anything, and stated he "paid 24,500 at auction". Right then I called him on that because he had now given us 2 different numbers and there was no way by putting new tires on and battery they spent 3,000 dollars. After haggling for a bit, my father in law put out a number and said "I'll write you the check for this amount, give you the title to my van, we shake hands and say thank you." He agreed to the price, shook my father in law's hand and told the sales associate to write the paperwork up. After 20 minutes Gary came out and said he had made a terrible mistake, he was going to need an additional 2500 on top of the amount already agreed upon. He then stated, "I'm not a numbers guy." We were floored. This guy is the owner of the dealership and spent the entire time talking numbers to us. Not only that but we caught him in 3 different lies. I am sorry, but if you shake and agree upon a number, whether or not you make a mistake, you should honor it. I have dealt with many car dealers and bought a few cars. I've have not met one yet that lacked integrity like Gary Clift. read more

The new finance guys are already in place and don't give a darn about what's best for the buyer, only what big bank will give them the biggest kickback for the loan. If they don't say the best rate is right here in Adrian, they're lying. Used to be a nice, hometown dealership. Not any more.
