Mike at CM put in a nice new A/C heat pump system in January. Last weekend, there was a leak and a chunk of my ceiling fell in. These things happen, but the reason for the good rating is how CM responded to the situation. There was no discussion about what was covered or other negotiation. Mike just set the fix in motion immediately, and by Tuesday, the A/C was fixed and I had a new ceiling, taped, floated, textured and painted. it looks beautiful, and there was no charge. My 4-ton unit wasn't cooling properly, sent a "dodo" technician who told me I had a clogged line, went to his truck and got a bottle, poured into line, charged me $190 service call and $70.00 for whatever he poured into the line for a total cost of $260.00 !!!! Total Rip-Off! Did not check the entire unit, called another company, Greg's for same problem of cooling, about 90 days later, service call was $90.00 and performed a diagnostic check! Will never use Climate Mechanical again !!!! read more

I called to schedule a summer maintenance on my one year old unit. I informed them I saw the ad they had in our July 2019 neighborhood news letter for a $49 maintenance. The woman immediately changed the tone on her voice and said they don't have an ad with that price and the price was $69. She continued to imply in a defensive tone that I was lying and probably had an old coupon. First of all, I don't normally use coupons. Second, I don't have financial constraints. The only reason why I called them was because of their ad. I was close to hanging up but she put me on hold to ask the owner a question. She got back on and said they would honor the ad but I had to give the ad to the technician. The tech came out and literally stayed for 5 minutes. I called them over the phone and gave my credit card info. I assumed they were completing the transaction while I was on the phone. A week later I receive a bill. I called the office. The woman could not help me because the person who took my CC info was out of the office. Ok she she had my confidential cc information hanging around the office for a week! Have they heard of the Red Flag Rule???? So I called them a week later...today at 4pm. The woman who answered said she just left the office to go to the bank. Can I call back on Monday?? This is not good customer service or a good way to run a business. I do NOT recommend this company. read more

We've been a Climate Mechanical customer for nearly 30 years. Mike, the owner, has been to our house several times, and we've always gotten great service, both from him and his employees. The most recent service was to replace our 23 year old unit, which we bought from them in the first place (they sell good stuff)! And we got a reasonable price on the new one. This was in the middle of a home remodeling project, and Mike's crew had to work around the carpenters and others in the same part of the house. Mike made sure we both understood the controls for the new system, though I doubt we will need to program it from our cell phones. We know we can get help within hours if anything fails, whether on a 3-day weekend (4th of July heat) or in the middle of the winter. Mike even gave us his personal cell number. Climate Mechanical were contracted to perform a service on two AC units as part of a home inspection for a house I purchased. According to the invoice the units were checked for correct operation, including checking filters and topping up coolant. After closing it was very apparent that the AC system was not cooling as well as it should be. I removed the elctro-static filters to find them filled with years of dirt and dust. The invoice shows that holes were drilled to fit a filter cover where no (paper) filters were fitted. I contracted another HVAC firm to come in and inspect and service the units. They added 2 lbs of coolant to one of the units. The result is that Climate Mechanical cost me $300 to fix something that the seller was prepared to pay for. In conclusion, I would not hire this firm. The standard of work they performed was poor, at best. read more

I had them replace my air vents and add insulation to my attic. My insulation comes out of my vents and into rooms. Tried closing the vents and some of them were not functional and wouldn't close. Nice people, but were not able to complete the job. Called back a few times and didn't ever hear back. Also they added weather strips to my doors, one door won't close correctly because of the way they added the weather strip. I was told, that's just the way it is. A lot of headache and time wasted when working with them. read more

Trane has taken it down and authorized their retail partners to offer it. CM was the only HVAC website that had posted the link. They get my vote and support. I understand you've had to respond to a lot of disgruntled customers lately, but I think you've mistaken me for another customer. I asked you to come check your work, you said I needed a new system. I asked you if there would be any charge for coming out to check your work. You said no because of the several hundred dollars we had just paid you to do repair the system. But you sent us a bill anyway. The lines were/are fine. I never, as you said in your message 'cussed out' your receptionist. I simply asked for someone to verify that I didn't really owe $98 for an inspection of your work. read more

I recently had Climate Mechanical out to fix my AC. They came out the same day and were unable to fix it because it was frozen up. Tom returned early the next morning after it thawed out and fixed it perfectly. He found a leak 3 other companies had missed. Friendly service done well was much appreciated. What an incredible turn around. I was pretty much done with them but thankfully they kept calling me to make things right. Mike, the owner, directly contacted me and did nothing but apologize for the service I experienced. He really does care, even though his old sales guy didn't. He offered to make things right and has more than compensated for the pains I've dealt with. He honestly had no idea and my case slipped through the cracks. I think they also had some turnover and are having to rectify old customers issues. This is why I supported local in the first place, cause you get to speak with owners and not corporate call lines that make you go in circles. Climate Mechanical charged me $235, did not fix the issue, created a new problem and did not return my phone calls when trying to dispute their work. The problem was my AC unit shutting on and off constantly. After the diagnostic portion (a flat rate of $98), the tech completed work without discussing any costs. The additional work, labeled as "minor repair" was $137. He installed a bypass from the thermostat to the AC unit. The bypass spliced the high and low settings of the unit, causing the unit to run 24 hours a day and chilling far below the set temperature. I contacted More Than AC, 512.690.2090, and they diagnosed the issue, corrected his work and solved the problem in under 10 min for $20. read more

I found this company very impressive and special. I am from California, but recently went to visit my grandma. Her AC was broken, and she was trying to find someone to come fix it. She had no idea how to handle these things, since my grandpa used to deal with all of this kind of stuff. I helped her do some research, and this was one of the companies we came across. I was skeptical that they would try to take advantage of her, but the guy who came was very kind and honest and explained everything to her very clearly. He fixed what was wrong, and everything began running perfectly. AND, it wasn't nearly as expensive as we thought it would be! I am really pleased with the service and how they treated me and my grandmother. Can't go without your AC working properly in this heat! We noticed our unit wasn't working properly and called for help. We spoke to the owner, Mike, who listened to our concerns and said he'd have one of his folks come take a look at it, however, after hearing what the issue was... he offered to simply walk us through how to fix it over the phone free of charge. He doesn't even know us! Sure enough, with his guidance our unit returned to properly working and we saved a couple hundred dollars. I'm sure this isn't the case for every situation but I appreciate a company who doesn't simply rip you off for the heck of it just to pad their own pockets. This was selfless... and when we do need a mechanic to come out, Mike and his team have our business for sure! read more

Could they not have let me know or sent another service person? Being stuck in Austin, Texas without AC can be deadly serious. These people completely ripped us off. They charged us 300+ on an unnecessary repair. I got this verified by two other companies who said that they lied about it. They said we would also need a brand-new $3500 coil because our other one had a hole in it. They flat out lied, this was not at all true and I verified it with two other companies. They tried to put one over on my very naïve husband. When we showed them the evidence from two other companies they still refuse to give us the money back. COMPLETE RIPOFF ARTISTS. I hired these guys to fix something that took another company exactly 15 minutes to fix. Instead, when these guys came out, they had no clue what the real problem was, did a whole bunch of extra irrelevant work I never asked for, charged me more than double any amount that they ever quoted or discussed on the phone before, and the problem came right back just hours after they left. Eventually I hired another company who knew exactly what the problem was and fixed it without trying to charge me for anything extra. But even more than the money, Climate Mechanical couldn't fix my problem and tried to blame ME for their poor communication. Now they're leaving messages they want to send this to their attorney?? So yeah, if you want to pay hundreds of dollars for busywork that doesn't fix your problems, and have them threaten to sue you, then Climate Mechanical is for you. read more

The tech they sent out and charged me almost $100 for spent less than 30mins trying to detect the coolant leak. He determined it was present on the inside and outside coils. Then they said they would send out someone else, made it sound like it was someone more experienced who would do a more thorough inspection. Turns out it was a sales person who was determined to sell me an entirely new unit. My old unit is only 5 yrs old. AND he said I would qualify for an Austin Energy rebate on this new unit which is not true. The old unit being replaced has to be at least 10 yrs. old. So I got two more opinions from 2 other companies , both spent more than an hour inspecting the unit and both found only one coil leak. I was able to get it fixed for a quarter of what Climate Mechanical was going to charge me for a new unit or 2 new coils, which I did not need. Not happy with them. Very focused on selling not finding and fixing the real issue. read more

When you are going to spend thousands of dollars on an AC or HVAC you want peace of mind. I interviewed 4 local Austin AC companies before choosing Climate Mechanical. Right after Mike came over to give me a quote I was sold. He was knowledgeable, professional, honest, and his price was in-line with the other quotes I had already received. On the day of install of my HVAC the men were punctual, friendly, and did good work. When a small issue came up they were quick to respond and fix the issue. The work was also done in the time I was quoted. Mike came at the end to do a walk though which I appreciated. I would highly recommend Climate if you are in the market for AC or HVAC. read more

My building set up a service call with these people to clean a drain line in my ac. They sent someone out and he used suction to clean the line. The unit was leaking again before he even left the building. He came back up to the unit and tried to figure out the problem. He finally thought he had it fixed. It didn't leak for two days and then started leaking again. They sent a $500.00 bill within a weeks time of the service. They are supposed to come out again today, but haven't shown. We pretty much feel taken advantage of all the way around. But, we have to stay after them, particularly if they think we owe them the $500.00. UPDATE: So Tim came back out today. The first thing he said was that this was the last time he was coming out and he was doing it as a favor to us. He was incredibly rude to my partner and I called the building manager as they are the ones who set up the appointment. Tim was cussing and when I got to the floor, he would not let either me or the manager in the apartment. My disabled partner was trapped in there with an obviously out of control tech. Tim evidently calmed down and we decided to let him stay, but I insisted that the manager stay on the floor. (You really can't make this stuff up!) He used nitrogen to flush the drain with pressure rather than the suction he used the first time. We told him that it didn't leak for two days and his reply was, well, I fixed it then didn't I? Why he didn't use the nitrogen the first time I don't know. He also didn't remember even flushing the drain the first time and blamed the problem on some sort of explanation of the drip pan (the entire unit is only two years old) not being waterproof and that the insulation gets wet and takes forever to dry out. Maybe so, but doesn't seem credible to me. My partner mentioned the high bill and the reply was that they are owed for their time whether they fix the problem or not. Tim also pulled a folding chair out of the closet on which to set his nitrogen bottle. It left a rust stain on the fabric. In the interest of full disclosure, we are a gay couple. There is homophobia even in the land of Awztin. I am not accusing anyone, but that can always be an issue. Yes, really. (I am leaving out a crude comment he made about our toilet). read more

The company changed out 2 systems , installing 2 X V 18 systems which have performed great. I am not very impressed with this company. I called to schedule a service technician to come out and take a look at my AC. My condenser went out and the AC quit blowing cold air. All was great when I was on the phone giving them my information to schedule the visit. They said someone would come out between 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm the next day - no problem. I actually took the day off from work to be at home to get this fixed and over with. Low and behold I get a phone call at 2:30 pm of the day he was supposed to come out and was told: "sorry - we don't service you area". That information would have been nice when I gave them my address on the initial phone call. Thanks for wasting my whole day! read more
