It…read morereminds me of the very finest of Cornish villages with it's beamed cottages, streets cobbled with rounded flint stones and a lovely, relaxed atmosphere. It's just near to Camber Sands too so.....visit!!! Anyway, they've fished here for yonks & Strand Quay is where they used to dry their nets in these tall, weatherboarded structures, just like The Stade in Hastings down the coast.............The Strand Quay Gallery is in one of these sheds and is surrounded by numerous bric a brac shops. They double up as a decent cafe & it's a nice way to browse when you're of a mind to. The latte was good & so was the driftwood art. They seem to specialise in affordable originals with coastal connections. Very pleasant.

Curiosity brought me into this corner shop. It was called the Swann Gallery on the board outside…read more,however no sign over the shop to say how it is described by the listing on the net? There were some unframed paintings inside and most surprising of all some old fashioned off the peg suits hanging on a cloths tree!

This attractive 18th century house in the heart of historic Rye was home at different times to the…read morenovelists Henry James and E F Benson. It is now in the care of the National Trust. The house is largely restored to how it would have been when James lived there, and most of the exhibits focus on his tenure and the myriad of fascinating visitors he received. Three ground floor rooms are open to the public, as well as the surprisingly large town garden, complete with James's favourite mulberry tree. Alas, the garden room in which he did much of his writing was destroyed by an enemy bomb in World War II. Practicalities The house is a short walk from the church, or a short but very steep walk up from the quayside. Accessibility is somewhat limited: some of the streets around are heavily cobbled with pebbles; there are 3 large steps up into the house, as well as no lavatory on site; the garden has gravel paths; and the rooms are also fairly small, and heavily furnished.
