I noticed the furniture is now different and the room I was a n had a lot of plugs all over the place. Don't recall that before. The furniture when the former owners were there was much nicer, looked better quality. Looks like they kept the pics of the former rooms from a few years ago to advertise the manoir, but the rooms don't look like that now. It's still a nice building, the exterior and hallways look the same. There's no breakfast. Small.microwave downstairs and eating area. The location is very good right near Plains of Abraham. In general, rooms could use some sprucing.up.

The inn is within walking distance to the Parc des Champs Bataille where the carnival was. The nice thing was we could walk around the festival, and once we got cold we could retreat back to the hotel and warm up, put on extra layers, or take a nap. Then, head back out to the carnival again. Since the inn was on the Winter Carnival parade route, we were able to devise a similar plan with parade watching. While the crowds had to huddle on the streets, we had a nice vantage point from the hotel where we could wait for the parade to come. We'd warm up and drink hot cocoa inside, then jump out when we saw an interesting parade float come down the street. The visitors were very happy (or perhaps I should say probably drunk since it's one of the easiest ways to stay warm). The inn was also within walking distance to some nice restaurants, cafes, and bars for after the carnival. Quebec City is very adorable and charming, and this is a great HQ for a Winter Carnival trip.

A-Ok describes this place just fine. The location is excellent for Quebec City sightseeing (you…read moredon't really need to be inside the walls to access Vieux Quebec easily), and it is clean and cute enough. It is really more like a small hotel than a typical B&B, which may or may not be what you are looking for. I still don't know anyone's names, since we arrived after hours in the evening (letting ourselves in), and when we arrived at breakfast in the morning, no one cared to introduce themselves. We mentioned who we were, and that Paul (whom I had contacted by email) had said that a vegan breakfast could be prepared for us. I said this in French, explaining as best as I could that we were "vegetalien," and what this means, repeating it on subsequent mornings. Nonetheless, the only food I am really sure was vegan was the fruit. Every day, we were served pre-wrapped packets of real cheese, which made us wonder if the crepes we were told were made without eggs, and with "olive oil," were really vegan. This was stressful because we didn't want to seem ungrateful for the supposedly "vegan" breakfasts, but we also didn't want to eat them if they really weren't. We would much rather have been told that they don't do vegan, but that we'd be welcome to stop by for coffee and fruit, and get a more complete breakfast on our own afterward. Overall, the place is fine, the only real problem being the noise level from the street, which is only solved by running the window air conditioner as white noise; I don't know what might be done when it is too cold to run the air conditioner. We couldn't have slept with the noise level that existed before we turned it on. The free access to a computer near the breakfast room was a nice bonus, as was the free parking.

Exceptional Stay in the Heart of Old Québec…read more L'Hôtel du Vieux-Québec was our home for a six-day holiday in Québec City, and we could not have chosen a better place to stay. Our double queen room with kitchenette was spacious, immaculately clean, quiet, and exceptionally comfortable. After long days exploring the city, we particularly appreciated the deep soaking tub, the rainfall shower, and what may have been some of the best water pressure we've experienced in a hotel anywhere. Small details matter, and this hotel gets them right. The location is fantastic--perfectly situated within Old Québec and within easy walking distance of the city's historic sites, restaurants, shops, and attractions. Despite being in the heart of everything, the hotel was remarkably peaceful and quiet. One of our favorite amenities was the guest lounge and its outstanding coffee machine, which quickly became part of our daily routine. We also opted for the breakfast package, and it was a delight. Each morning we awoke to a basket of fresh breakfast goodies hanging on our door: fresh pastries, juice, yogurt, and other treats. We never tired of it. As a fun local note, visitors should know that the beloved pain au chocolat is called a "chocolatine" here, just as it is in the south of France! What truly sets this hotel apart, however, is its people. M. Pierrôt deserves special recognition. He was warm, helpful, knowledgeable, and always greeted us with a genuine smile. In truth, every member of the staff we encountered embodied the hotel's reputation for friendly, personalized service. We also appreciated staying in a property with such a rich history. Built on land once known as the "Garden of the Poor," where medicinal plants were cultivated by the Augustines of the Hôtel-Dieu de Québec, the site has witnessed centuries of Québec City's evolution. Today, the hotel beautifully blends that historic character with modern comfort and thoughtful amenities. It is easy to understand why L'Hôtel du Vieux-Québec has earned such an outstanding reputation among travelers. For us, it was the perfect base from which to explore one of North America's most beautiful and historic cities. We would not hesitate to stay here again and recommend it enthusiastically to anyone visiting Québec City. A sincere thank you to M. Pierrôt and the entire team for making our holiday so memorable. We hope to return again soon.

The Chateau is an architectural gem. It is well worth your time to walk around the perimeter of this gorgeous building -- you won't be bored. The tour guide explained that the Chateau is a 5 Star hotel and everything must be perfect. Once inside, I saw chandeliers and window ledges caked with white dust. The "grand ballroom" reminded me of my high school all purpose room. We were warned not to touch anything because the grand ballroom was being prepared for an Easter Brunch. Two of the tablecloths covering the round guest tables had strange, yellow spots on them. If I return to Quebec in the future, I will stay at the Hilton which has a fabulous buffet breakfast that is reasonably priced and an equally fabulous view looking down on the Chateau and the old city.

You easily can walk up Côte de la Montagne (the street) to the upper old city, or down it or the Escalier Casse-Cou (the stairs right next to the gîte) to the lower old city. When we stayed here in 2004 (it was memorable), we had some plumbing issues that weren't handled as effectively as they might have been (my wife would rate it lower, but this isn't her review), but the breakfasts and the rooms otherwise were fabulous. The breakfast was prepared for us individually in the kitchen of our 'room'. The check-in is at the Hôtel St. Paul, 229 rue Saint Paul, which is also where the staff is based, since there's no room for them here, just three floors with the three rooms. That situation has both pluses and minuses. On the whole, however, the staff was very helpful and friendly. The website says the the gîte has been renovated "this year", so see there for interior views.

One thing to be aware of, you have to check in at a different hotel to get keys, etc. If I hadn't seen that online and got there after trying to find it for 90 minutes, I would have gone ballistic.
