Touristy yes. Great waves, yes! No food here cos we went to surf!! Service- there are many options for surf lessons. We went through our hotel and were pleased. This location is beautiful! Cloud 9 - Walk the pier to the end, there is a 100 peso environmental fee to get through the area. To the left before you walk the pier is a restaurant Cafe Loka and to the right is a restaurant called Shaka. To surf Cloud 9 you must go outside the gate, walk to the Corgi Cafe keep walking to the end of the path and you will reach the area where there are rental boards and available surf lessons, available boats to take you out further to more advance surfing area. When you want to learn surfing for the first time, this is the place for you. You will come to the right waves and instructors galore. I came to scope the waves out first time visiting here and they have pretty much from novice to expert here. You wouldn't feel left out because the local instructors are also all over willing to teach of course for a fee. There is a tower for surfers to plan out their surf based on the waves accordingly to your level. Pretty laid back, friendly locals, great atmosphere just to hang out and people watch even if you don't want to go out and catch some waves. Shaka cafe nearby is a perfect choice to go and get your power energy just before surfing!!! read more

I was most excited about surfing in Cloud 9 from the minute we booked our trip to Siargao. Unfortunately both days that we went, it was overcast and even rained a little bit, but it was still beautiful! The beaches get packed in the afternoons but it's such a lively and fun spot to hang out. We opted for an early surf time and went around 7:00 in the morning, which meant more space on the waves for us beginners. As soon as you park outside Cloud 9, there are people asking if you want to surf and they will get you all set up. It only cost about $10 USD per person to surf for one hour. After instructions and a very brief lesson on land, you end up in the water for about 45 minutes. They make it so easy to learn! I was able to stand up on my 2nd try. They will tell you everything you need to know and do, even little things like if you need to scoot up just a little bit more on your surfboard. They also push you out on the water which takes out the tiring part of surfing (all of that paddling!). If you enjoy it, I really recommend doing longer than 1 hour, because our time went so quickly and I just wanted to stay out there all day long. read more
