A friend and I bought Living Social deals from Motor City Kiteboarding, good for one kiteboarding…read morelesson. Kiteboarding, by definition, is done in the water. This was validated by the picture accompanying the deal, of someone kiteboarding....over the water. However, when we called to schedule our lesson, we mentioned wanting to choose a date later in summer so we could be assure the weather would be nice and warm. The man on the phone told us that it didn't matter because the lessons were held indoors. Kiteboarding, indoors? What??! Apparently, this deal was for a preliminary, *simulated* kiteboarding lesson. What would would we do indoors? I guess hold onto a rope and pretend it was connected to something, pretend we were on a kiteboard while we actually just stood on the ground, etc. And I paid $30 (Groupon price...I can't even imagine what they rob people of full price for this mess) for this?! They said the only other option that we could use our vouchers at the Groupon face value ($30) to purchase something in their pro shop. Well what could I possibly find to buy from a kiteboarding pro shop, when I don't know how to kiteboard? (because the lesson I thought I was getting would actually be more of just a glorified lecture on the subject) I pointed out that neither the description nor the fine print of the living social deal specified that this was a simulated lesson, and that both in words and picture very blatantly led one to assume that it was a full kiteboarding lesson, in the water. They didn't seem to think this was a problem....they had nothing to point out where it indicated a simulated lesson, but would still not even just validate the fact that they could understand how the ad for the deal may have been misleading. (Validation and at least letting your customers know they are being heard goes a long way, folks.) On a side note, Living Social would not refund us either becuase they only do refunds within 7 days after purchasing your voucher, and as it voucher was good for about 5 months, we did not call on it right away but rather a couple months down the road. Maybe if you take real lessons through them it would be very good, I don't know because I won't get that experience. But I find it dissappointed that they would run a misleading deal that obviously leads the customer to believe they are getting one thing, whenin fact they are getting something much less. Irresponsible and sneaky.
