Great food and service. Better than your typical franchise steakhouse. Small town atmosphere is great.

Great food! Their burgers and steak cubes are my favorite. Been going here for years! Worth the drive every time!

I ordered the chicken sandwich without aioli, and I might have gone wrong with that choice because the sriracha ended up overpowering it a bit, but everything else was great. Service was friendly and attentive, and when it got busy another waiter stepped in and also made great conversation. The atmosphere was nice overall--dry-aged meats were on display, the tables were well set, and even the bathrooms were clean and looked really nice. It was a little cold inside, but not a big issue. Also, wine is half off on Wednesdays. Overall, a great spot I'd definitely go back to and recommend.

What we didn't like = price for the quality The spinach dip was saturated in butter floating at the top of dip. Fettuccine was also butter soaked. Steak special fillet was good. Risotto tasted like white rice mixed with cream of mushroom soup (college food). The ribeye was charred and had too much grizzle taste like the grill it cooked on was grimy and unclean. We spent near $400 on the dinner and left sick from the over butter and sick we paid that much for THAT dinner. Not worth the drive or price. Do not fool yourself that the drive will be an experience dinner.

There's plenty of parking on the street or the parking lot adjoining. Approach is open and the door is obvious. Ambiance inside is interesting; open area, semi-dimly litt with the bar to left and more table and booth seating to the right and there's a step down separate room for private events, further underpins the steak joint atmosphere. The menu options covers land, sea and air and my paaps and I landed on air and myself went with turf. The meat dish the filet oscar was perfectly cooked to medium rare with lobster, shrimp, asparagus topped off with hollandaise sauce. The chicken breast was the same quality and the dad added a side of wild rice. Wine menu is descent for the area and I ended up with a pinot that was a nice accompaniment to the steak. I've been coming to this town for quite some time and didn't know about this place, so will add it to my go to place and would recommend to anyone looking for a descent, quiet restaurant here in Watertown.

He ordered very, very rare, and explained to the waitress that he wanted it even rarer than the photo shown as rare on the menu. When it arrived, it was well done. He sent it back, and the second steak was medium well done! He ate part of it, but when you order an expensive steak, you should get what you ordered. Many had there food arrive overdone, and COLD! My wife ordered onion rings - they arrived hot, but burned - even the onion inside was BLACK - the waitress offered to bring her new ones, but she declined. ( Who wants to get their food when everyone else is already finished eating?) Even people who got their food on grill platters had cold food, because the grill plates themselves were ice cold! I think the people that had ordered shrimp were content with their food, but most were not happy. Sorry, but I don't think our group will be visiting again any time soon. It's a shame, because the old Budger's restaurant was an awesome place to eat!

The warm wooden digs and lively vibe make it a proper escape in Watertown, SD, though the only drawback is the constant buzz of chatter drowning out what should be some good ol' Dropkick Murphys tunes. I was particularly impressed by the great pastrami on homemade rye--tender, tangy meat stacked high on fresh-baked bread that could make even a New Yorker do a happy jig. Their bartenders are absolute gems, slinging drinks and banter with the charm of seasoned storytellers who somehow remember your name after one visit. One quirky touch is how the floors creak underfoot, like they're gossiping about all the pints spilled before you. Strangely enough, the soup of the day was tequila, a boozy curveball that had the whole place toasting with confused delight and empty bowls. The house brews hold their own, pairing like old friends with the hearty grub. All in all, Dempsey's is a witty, wonderful Watertown, SD gem.
