I don't tend to use the word "funky" often, but I'd not hesitate using it when describing a place…read morelike Barbie Deinhoffs. But not funky in a bad way, rather in a fun, eccentric one.
Within the first couple weeks of living in Berlin, a British acquaintance brought me here. The atmosphere is relaxed, with lots of chairs and sofas in the two rooms. Reminded me of 1970s decor, with a bit of French flavoring thrown in for good measure. There's also a DJ at times, and the music selection is interesting.
I came back again when an American acquaintance was in town and my reaction was the same. We enjoyed kicking back and relaxing on a comfortable couch, and there were a couple dogs hanging out too, which made the atmosphere especially homey.
As for the drinks themselves, the beer selection is not exactly my favourite, but it's OK. Also, the bartender made me pay an extra euro per drink when I ordered our second round. The sign says the first drink costs an extra euro, so I was a bit annoyed that we arrived before a DJ and were charged after the fact. But maybe it's just a semantical issue, in which case the sign should be rewritten to specify that it's the first drink after the DJ arrives which costs, regardless of how long you've been there. Najaaaaaaa.
I think I read a sign mentioning 2-for-1 Tuesdays as well, so that's incentive for coming back again. But really, if you're just looking for a cool place to relax and talk, give it a try.
